Warming will 'wipe out billions'(Women and minorities hit hardest)

MOST of the world's population will be wiped out if political leaders fail to agree a method of stopping current rates of global warming, one of the UK's most senior climate scientists has warned.

Professor Kevin Anderson, director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change, believes only around 10 per cent of the planet's population – around half a billion people – will survive if global temperatures rise by 4C.

Anderson's warning comes just eight days before global leaders meet in Copenhagen for the most crucial talks on climate change reversal since the Rio summit in 1992. Current Met Office projections reveal that the lack of action in the intervening 17 years – in which emissions of climate changing gases such as carbon dioxide have soared – has set the world on a path towards potential 4C rises as early as 2060, and 6C rises by the end of the century.

"...director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change..."

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Braaaaacckkkk!!!! (Alert klaxon)
There is a title with a foregone conclusion!
It should be something like,
Tyndall Centre for Climate Study..."
... or "Measurement" or "Analysis", etc...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Once an "investigator" (or organization, or movement -- or half the whole world -- gets on a mission to "PROVE" something, (rather than search for unadulterated evidence to refine current understanding) they cease to be scientists (or theologists)-- or, even, truthful...

This is not climate science, it’s “government science”. That is, science paid for by government, with the objective of pushing a government agenda.

Just as Rush coined the term “government schools”, we all need to start using the term “government science”.

It seems apparent that a lot of "Global Warming" articles were queued up in various media outlets with an expectation that they would be released as Copenhagen approached.
Good call ... idiots! ;-)

Nope, da U.P. I've been here 11 years and we have never had less than 260" of snow a season. We usually have about 2-7 weeks or so of -5 degrees or less, not including the wind chill factor. This summer I don't think it ever got above 88 degrees and that was for less than a week. The rest of the time it was in the mid to low 70's and lower. The last day we had snow was early may. Couldn't put our garden out until first of June and then it was bad. I had 40 tomato plants and they all stayed green but a few. :(

Anyway, I'll take global warming any ol' day.

If these nuckleheads would think, they would realize that there is a good 2/3 of the planet that you can't live on, the oceans. And if they would look at the earth at night they would see that probably 80-90% has no lights at all. If they would just read a little they would find out that Mt. Pinatubo spewed more pollution into the air in one belch then we have the entire century. Sun spots are to blame for a lot of our weather. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. And for heaven sakes, they can't even accurately predict what the weather is going to be like tomorrow, how in the world can they possible tell us with any accuracy what it'll be like in 10, 20 or 100 years from now. To many variables.

Ok, ok I'm done. *getting off soap box* :)

Well then, it will take care of itself, won’t it - - if most of us evil humans disappear.

I can understand why Professor Anderson is worried, not for the billions but for himself. No climate change, no academic gravy train. Maybe the centre can change its name to the Tyndall Centre for Climate Stability.

I'll probably tick some people off but this reminds me of the Y2K fraud. After all the dire predictions of the end of life as we know it, the computer consultants patted themselves on the back and proclaimed that it was because of their heroic efforts that the disaster was avoided. The Climate Chicken Littles will do the same thing once the public realizes that the climate isn't changing.

It was 30 years ago. The band's name was “Gold Rush.” It was a strictly country request band. 2,000 songs! I played pedal steel guitar with them.
One late January gig, the throttle linkage on my hot-rodded Opel broke. I had to tie a string to the carburetor, pull it through a louvre in the hood, and into the driver's window. Couldn't close the window all the way back to Milwaukee! Stick shift, with right hand, clutch with left foot, pull string with left hand, steer with right knee. A simple task for a steel guitar player!

Oh my gosh...lol That musta been fun....NOT I remember using panty hose when a belt broke. I remember using a string to pull the windshield wipers. I remember using the emergency break as a break, not a hot idea. I remember going a whole winter when I lived in the D.C. with no heater. Ah yes, the good ol’ days(NOT) when I didn’t have anything. You either fixed it yourself, did without, or mickey mouse rigid it so it would work, sorta.

Yup! Those were the days! I’ll never forget that drive back to Milwaukee with the window open. It was about 20 below, and what’s the wind chill at 70 miles an hour on the interstate? Thank goodness it wasn’t snowin’!
