C-SPAN 2 is carrying the Senate floor debate live this afternoon.
The Democrats control the floor right now. Earlier, Republican Senators Judd Gregg, Kit Bond, Jeff Sessions and David Vitter gave good speeches and dialogues on the budget-busting effects of ObamaCare.
Maria Cantwell is speaking now. Mary Landrieu is excpected to speak shortly.
The cloture vote is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST tonight.

I didn't know until I read York's article that this was not a cloture vote. Someone needs to change the headline. This is only to start debate - where did that come from? --
It IS a cloture vote. It's necessary to overcome objection to agreement to proceed.
Cloture is a generic facility, used to surmount objection at any stage of the process; motion to proceed, to vote on an amendment, or to vote on final passage. One bill can have many cloture votes as it progresses.

From what I am reading it is a vote to start debate not end debate because the Reid bill never was in Committee so this vote may be necessary to get it on the floor. That is a pure guess.

“The vote is on.”

No surprises in the voting.
Strictly a party line vote (60/39).

I did for 4 years, got everywhere too, and worked for a living. Yeah, but you probably didn't have to grocery shop for a family of six, or take kids to Cub Scouts, church, etc. A contractor can't haul his supplies on the bus, either.
A person can manage without a personal vehicle in LA, but I don't recommend it. In those few times when I was without a vehicle in Los Angeles, I got physically ill over it. It was that big of a threat to my survival.
Oh yes you are correct, It was just me, with a grocery store at the end of my block (and I shopped every other day) with a half a block walk to my Apt.
As a single it was great, I no longer went to flea markets and swap meets to buy stuff I didn't need, took dates in rides in Town-cars that avoided the DUI thing, and got a lot of reading done. But with a family it would suck.

Its almost a blessing that the new mammogram and pap test guidelines were released this week. Not really. They'll just make a revision in the health reform bill and press on with the rest of their nasty stuff.

I meant that it was reported so that people could begin to have it touch them personally NOW instead of in 2013.
