Army officials plan to prevent media from covering Sarah Palin's appearance at Fort Bragg on Monday, saying they fear the event will turn into political grandstanding against President Barack Obama.
Fort Bragg spokesman Tom McCollum told The Associated Press on Thursday that Army officials had decided to keep media away from Palin's book promotion at the North Carolina base.

McCollum said the Army did not want the event to become a platform for Palin supporters to express political opinions "directed against the commander in chief."
Having spent 4 years at Ft. Kackalackee Bragg, this really angers me.
Here is why. By keeping the media away, their stated intent is to prevent an outward sign of protest against the CIC.
By doing this they are indeed taking a side in politics and the Generals should be neutral. If this was a political protest or rally, that would be different. But they are literally preventing soldiers from being seen in the media supporting a political opponent by buying her book.
The PC in the military is despicable.
The ass kissing is tenfold from my ets of jan 30 84.
I’m sure Palin will respect the political Generals at Bragg. But it would be very easy to cross them up by simply moving the book signing to the Mall which is just off the base...can’t remember the name of the Mall...Cross Spring or something like that.
Damn if I was advising that campaign that is exactly what I would have her do. The paratroopers would flock to see her offbase and the media could be there in force.

I live in a house constructed in the 1950’s. It has heat, cooling, hot running water, insulation, a good roof and foundation and is better constructed than most new homes. Anyone have some photos of these “deficient” barracks. This base is the home of the 82nd Airborne, and our Special Operations people. In war, they would sleep on the ground, and train for hardship. This is not, for example a base for rear echelon types. As regards weapons, transportation (Pope AFB adjacent) food, supplies... they get the BEST. It does sound like the base commander wants to run a better hotel, as opposed to developing the finest “snake eaters” of Delta Force, and para-regiment 82nd.
Your post brings back memories...you take Yadkin Rd and follow it out to Cross Creek Mall off post...as I remember 25 years ago lol.
Army...again. Gen.Casey...again. The same Gen. Casey who was first and foremost worried about the Hasan terror attack turning into anger against Muslims rather than his first concern being for his men, the wounded, the families of the deceased or the breaches that allowed this event to occur. Now worries there, just don’t rag on the muzzies about it. That’s all that bastard cared about.
This is an outrage. The army needs to be publicly told that this decision is far more damaging to enlisted morale than to allow the coverage would be to zero’s morale. Zero is a big boy, or is supposed to be. He’s the CinC. He should be able to take it.
This is exactly how the left operates. Regular, unafraid people who want truth and fairness must give up their rights to accommodate some candy-assed sonofabitching’ wimp who might get his wittle feewings huwt.
This country is in a state of siege.
How terrible it is that the CinC considers them a “good photo-op” but then does not support them fully in their mission, making them a political football. This kind of “neutral” politics also combines with ridiculous PC commentary like that of General Casey, Army Chief of Staff- that an even greater tragedy of the Ft. Hood killings would be the loss of the diversity in the Army!! This is the difference between someone who was passed over for theatre command in favor of Gen. Petraeus, who is a warrior concerned with the main mission of the Army. Casey is a careerist. All commanders face the potential of conflict with civilian authority. But great commanders use their leadership skills to overcome incompetent CinCs.
Bingo! Operational security should be of greater concern to a commander. But if you believe the military is “meals on wheels” with guns and tanks... then you think it is just dress up in camo and political correctness.
This should also give us a clue as to where our military officials will stand if there’s ever an armed insurrection in this country and zero decides to cancel Posse Comitatus with a sweep of the pen.
Remember that this “surprise” visit involved Obi-wan’s advance team handing out a lot of the “same exact cameras” for them to take his photo with. As you can see in the photo, all the cameras are the same, cheap digitals and the photo op presented showed an “adoring” crowd of minimal number. It’s all smoke and mirrors.
Recall also how the lefties made fun of “mission accomplished” when Bush visited a carrier coming back into home port. The banner was “mission accomplished” for the carrier. But the media created this into a Bush “mission accomplished” claim— pure negative, false propaganda. We need to use proveably true events, and make our point about the “CinC”
...well if the media is there, it will turn in to a Media driven Obama damage control session.
So it’s good the media will be kept away. :)
Soldiers hae the vote, and control of free speech in a civilian area is wri=ong, and probably unlawful. Troops can change into civies and attend , and that should be allowed.
The press should be allowed int a civilian area. Wonder why the liberal lefty press is not protesting the ruling much.
NEWS BLACK OUT. ITS WRONG.
So who’s side they gonna’ be on when “it” breaks out? To me this is a “first shot” at freedom by the military. Pretty scary.

Damn that is one ugly woman.
He's the PinC (Pretender/Poser/Pr**k in Chief).
Pretty simple - that's the only model for sale at the PX.
Absolutely. I'm a former infantry officer. It's what I'd do. Let her come. Let all the troops see her that want to... but keep the f*cking media away so that both sides can speak freely.
As an officer, I'd fear retribution against my soldiers by the administration if one of them were caught on video saying something harsh against the Commander in Chief.

Don't you see what is happening to America?
