Axelrod Signals Obama Will Try to Strip Abortion Language From Health Care Bill by FOXNews.com
The amendment, authored by Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., went beyond preventing the proposed government-run plan from covering abortion to restrict federal subsidies from going toward private plans that offer abortion coverage. David Axelrod says the amendment changes the 'status quo,' something the president cannot abide.
White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod suggested Sunday that President Obama will intervene to make sure a controversial amendment restricting federal funding for abortion coverage is stripped from final health care reform legislation.

O let Nancy have this in the House bill so it could get to the Senate. It's been in the soup from day one.

There is ZERO chance of Healthcare passing the house if it pays for abortion.

I think this would be a very bad move for obama. I hope he tries it. The blowback from a gratuitous payoff to the abortionists could be the last straw for any senators facing election next year and looking for a reason to bail on obamacare.

Unless they changed the Constitution (which they may have done in the dead of night) the President cannot “strip” provisions out of a bill before he signs....

There is ZERO chance of Healthcare passing the house if it pays for abortion. Why did all the Republicans vote for the Stupak amendment then?

I’m not a bit surprised. I knew that Stupak amendment was too good to be true. I figured they’d either remove it or find a loophole to get around it.

How, exactly, does a President “strip language” from a bill submitted to him?
A presdient can either sign or veto a bill. The line-item veto was ruled unconsitutional in 1998; not that the Constitution means anything to this guy.

My bet is that he’ll use it as a bargaining chip just like they pulled in the House. The opposition will relent until he puts the restriction back in but we will be stuck with the other 99% of a lousy pos bill.
