When I first heard liberals howling about supposed anti-Obama messages in ABCs new sci-fi drama V, I rolled my eyes. The story of Earth falling for the false promises of sinister aliens may sound like the Barack Obama Hope-&-Change Tour 2008, but its hardly a new theme for the science-fiction genrenot only did The Twilight Zone famously tackle it way back when, but V itself is actually a direct remake of a TV miniseries that first aired in 1983. Any resemblance between the 44th President and two-faced space lizards had to be coincidental at least, thats what I thought before Sean Hannity aired clips from the new show.

Stop the presses! Hope-bringers who wont tolerate an adversarial media, because it would distract people from the cause of health care reform? Its certainly a breath of fresh air from mainstream entertainments usual modus operandi. Now thats change we can believe in!
Somebody in Hollywood must have been asleep at the switch in order for Vs thoughtcrimes to make it past the drawing board, but now that the Left has noticed, its time to crack down:
Naturally, when a show debuts to huge ratings and mostly great reviews, the producers career is golden. Not this time. Apparently the network who gave Obama an infomercial and refuses to release the Path to 9/11″ DVD decided to replace the show runner Scott Peters before the pilot even aired. In fact, ABC hosted a big visit by press people last Monday, but Peters was notably absent. Exec producer Steve Pearlman spoke with the reporters.Peters has been demoted to exec producer, a largely honorary title and has been replaced by former The Shield and Chuck alum Scott Rosenbaum.

Interesting. I’m just the opposite. I can’t stand Star Wars or most of the Star Trek iterations. I didn’t think that much of the original ‘V’. I’m more of an X-Files / Lost / Jericho type, where the science part is secondary, but still important, to the main story line.
I liked the first episode for its type of science fiction, acting and the political message. I thought the show was very brave with its pro-Christian messages and references to Obama. The fact that the ‘V’ have been living among us for years and the creepy low-emotion pleasantness of the ‘V’ (sort of like a pedophile luring kids into an open car with candy) makes the show look interesting.
I’ll watch more of it.
That said, I wonder if the surprising profitability of the project will change some attitudes at ABC.
How can it be dull with Morena Baccarin?
I have never understood this monkey thing.
Afterall isn’t it the lefties montra that humans evolved from chimps?
It is actually a much easier explanation than that.
A show runner is tied down to the show. Often the lead of the creative team will run the show for it’s first several episodes and then move to an executive producer slot in order to free up his time for the production company.
He may have other ideas that he is working on or he needs to supervise several projects. He runs the show until it gets it’s footing and the director and production team gets the right “feel”, then he turns it over to someone else and gets back in the office.
Morena is awesome
I’d follow that.
Heck, I’d let her nibble on me.
This will not be lost on writers, film producers, etc.
It certainly isn't lost on Matthews, Olbermann, Ed Schultz and the networks which air them. There really isn't any profit in towing the party line.
Is that Slow Boats version??
Its cool.
One day the whole world will be carpeted . . . and we will do the cleaning.
I don’t know who I stole it from... :)
Sinclair Lewis It Cant Happen Here
As someone posted on previos thread.
The writings about Fascism are NOT new.
Hollywood just got a big wake up call when they put this on screen and all of a sudden they were looking in a mirror.
I have set my DVR to record all futures.
Thanks
***This an old story that could have been told in the 1930’s, the 1980’s, or today.***
A remake of this movie with outer space aliens. SHADOW ON THE LAND.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063589/
I remember reading of a similar movie made way back around 1917 in which America is taken over by the Kaiser’s army.
I saw a still frame from it showing a politician looking like William Jennings Bryan being arested by “The Hun”.
Best post of the day, especially given your handle.
***and it was based on a book called It cant happen here,****
Go to the Internet movie data base IMDB.COM, type, in It can’t happen here, and it will take you to SHADOW ON THE LAND, a TV movie from 1968. I saw it back then.
Wow, you could be talking about “The Unit” which was just cancelled by CBS. I loved that show, until they started getting into issues like that. It was a great show until the last season.
One thing I didn’t really care for, from the start, was the commanding officer was screwing the wife of one of his operatives. That whole theme should have been taken out.
Perhaps not.
Simply pointing out the negative aspects of HUMAN behavioral tendencies need not be aimed at any person or group in particular.
If the left sees a commentary on ‘bammy’s narcissism in the character you describe, it’s because ‘bammy’s a narcissist.
If the left sees a commentary on their ideology in an allegory of fascism, it’s because THEY ARE FASCISTS.
***A remake of this movie with outer space aliens. SHADOW ON THE LAND.***
If any misread my post, SHADOW ON THE LAND does NOT have outer space aliens. It is about a fasciest takeover of America.
