House Countdown to Friday on Health Care (Manager's Amendment Released)
Human Events ^ | Thursday, November 4, 2009 | Connie Hair

Despite Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s pronouncement yesterday that the health are “reform” bill may not come to a vote in the senate this year, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is still pushing and shoving her caucus to the brink, insisting on a vote as early as Friday night.

One of the two big steps remaining before the vote -- the so-called “manager’s amendment of final changes -- was revealed last night.

The “Amendment to H.R.3962 Offered by Mr. Dingell of Michigan,” otherwise known as the Manager’s Amendment, is out and up online. Democrat Rep. John Dingell, Chairman Emeritus of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is the bill’s manager, thus the name.

The amendment was dropped in last night at 10:07 p.m., starting the clock on the 72 hours to read it before a vote promised by Speaker Pelosi. Should the Speaker hold to that promise, it would mean the earliest vote on passage of the bill would be Friday at 10:07 pm.

The Republican anxiety over poring through an additional “Manager’s Amendment” -- rumored to be “over 800 pages or more” -- was assuaged for a short time last night by an amendment only 42 pages in length. That brings the total page count so far to 2,032. But there’s more.

The most glaring omission in the “Manager’s Amendment” is that it does not address federal funding of abortion. Currently, H.R. 3962, like its predecessor H.R. 3200 that was read aloud at town hall meetings nationwide, does not specifically bar the use of federal funds for abortion.

Language to address the abortion issue is still being hammered out behind closed doors. According to reports this morning, the abortion language could be included in the bill’s rules dropped at the last moment as a means to block folks from actually scrutinizing it before the vote.

Anyone who thinks that removing funding for abortion makes this bill a sale is deluded.

A great publicity stunt would be to have someone or several people taking turns reading the health care bill out loud on the Capital steps. When you’ve finished doing it once, start it all over again. A portable microphone system would help.

Then after that’s done several times, start in reading the tax code. That would take months of a 9 to 5 effort.

It doesn't matter whether abortion funding is included or not. After last night's election results, any GOP rep that even considers voting for this mess of a bill should be challenged in next year's election. The GOP has no need to support this bill, now.

Makes sense. In the case of Josephine Stalin Pelosi, we have both deluded and polluted.

I doubt that any GOP congressman or congresswoman will vote for the “Pelosi”. The killers of her bill and Obamacare are called “Blue Dog” Dmeocrats. After last night’s election returns, any “Blue Dog” that votes for the Obama/Pelosi bill needs to have their sanity examined. IMHO, both Obamacare and Trade & Cap legislation are dead unless the Democrat Party opens a real and meaningful change dialogue with the GOP. Both Obamacare and Cap/Trade need full input and revision with the GOP. As for POTUS Obama, he now has become the earliest “Lame Duck” POTUS in the entire history of the United States. How’s them apples for HOPE & CHANGE!!!!

If Pelosi insists that her members walk the plank, she is consigning many of them to certain defeat next year.

Everyone should try to attend the rally tomorrow, West Side of Capitol, near House of Rep, at 12 pm - hosted by Congresswoman Michele Bachman. Mark Levin will also be there. Yes, I am going.

Any critter that voted for anything he or his aides have not had time to read should be not just defeated but jailed.

Signing blank checks is not the prerogative of a US American congresman or senator. That isn’t representing.

LOL! That's brilliant. If a group could pull that off, I'm sure Beck, etc would show then on their shows.

That's similar to Beck's showing how long it takes to print out the tax code and then showing the stacks and stacks of paper. But your idea would have more of a punch, IMO.
