McDonnell did everything to disavow any support from Palin.
That makes McDonnell a heretic/infidel among certain conservatives.
That was 7 years ago.
Owens is still a rat, no matter how ‘conservative’ he claims to be.

Looks like the conservative party spent way over a million dollars on their candidate. These figures are apparently only from Club for Growth, and don’t include additional monies raised.
Can’t believe all that money—and still no win!
This remark brands you as a serious disappointment for a "conservative" mind.
Hoffman was a terrible candidate as was Scozzafawa. That's why the dem won. You have to have a decent candidate to win be they dem, rino, or conservative.
My e-mail I just sent to Scuzzifava:
Please don’t run for office in NY-23 or the NYS assembly ever again. You will not get my support or the support of many I know that have supported you in the past. You single handedly gave a congressional seat to a democrat. Of course you know that seat had not been held by a democrat since before the civil war. Does that make you happy? Was it out of spite for Doug Hoffman and his supporters? You ran as a republican, the republican party that always courts the conservative vote and quite frankly takes it for granted. In your case, no more. You will be beaten by the democrat every time from here on out because conservatives and conservative minded republicans will not give you their vote. So don’t bother running for reelection. I am a registered republican, leaning conservative. But I think what you did was despicable. The people that you took for granted chose a candidate other than you. Many of them thought you didn’t support their views and values. And what did you do? Turned around and proved them right by endorsing Owens. You proved their argument. No wonder Hoffman decided to run, he called you out and you proved where your loyalties really lie by helping to elect Owens. Maybe you should consider changing parties, because while the republican party says they are inclusive of the conservative point of view, you proved you are not.
Who cares? It’s New York. They were lost to the commies a long time ago.
Enjoy your tax bill New Yorkers.
AP: “Democrat wins Heavily Republican District”
Just yesterday it was a swing seat.
Hoff was a terrible candidate. Corzine spent 40 million and lost too because, he was a terrible candidate.
I think he did pretty darn well, for having gotten into the race only a few weeks ago, and for not having any political party back him.
To go from zero to almost a victory against the two dominant political parties is no small feat, IMO.
I dare say, Hoffman would have been a considerably less terrible candidate had he had 1 million RNC dollars behind him.
But, alas, our RNC contributions go to Liberal Democrat GOP candidates, who prize loyalty to the Democrat Party.
FORTY million? What? Holy carp.
I did not know that...! That’s a lot of money for a loss.
well that’s more a matter of leveling the playing field, because the rats would do the same thing if the party lines and election was the other way around (assume that a voter for that party’s candidate on the ballot was intended for the other person—they tried to do that in Florida in 2000 during the recounts, assuming that votes down the ballot that were more easily read for democrats for congress or senate also intended to vote for gore)
Hoffman is not a politician and that is a good thing. I do not think Hoffman should have conceded until the last absentee ballot was counted. Are most of those from Fort Drum? Would expect that they would run 85% for Hoffman.
The amount of flak Hoffman got shows that we were over the target.
This was a great start at regaining the soul of the party and putting in place Representatives and not politicians.
We need to adjust the game plan and fight on.
New York voters are fools.
I’m not disappointed. There are some huge disadvantages when you don’t run under a major party banner and Hoffman still almost won.
Next time, (a year from now) he’ll run under the GOP after winning in the primaries, he’ll take the district and we can count Hoffman as a seat pickup in 2010. You can book it. Owens will be a one-year wonder.
I expect some NY voters may have objected to “outsiders” coming in and telling them who to vote for. I’d guess in the next election Hoffman might have a good chance to win a primary and the election, if he still has the interest.
I hope the Dem. enjoys his year (and only 1 year) in office. The dropped out Republican votes added to Hoffmans were more than the Dems. votes. In 2010 their will be a Rep. Primary and only one person challenging the Dem. in the General.
