The RNC and RNCC have given up on California. There are lots of conservatives in California, but it’s so gerrymandered that our votes don’t really count.

GOP unity, support from independents key today
We think tonight will be very good for Republicans.

Two of the main reasons for that are superior party unity and pretty overwhelming support from independents.

In NY-23 despite the presence more or less of two Republican candidates on the ballot, Doug Hoffman is winning 71% of the GOP vote to Bill Owens’ 67% of the Democratic vote. Hoffman leads Owens 52-30 with independents.

In New Jersey Chris Christie is getting 82% of the Republican vote while Jon Corzine is at 72% of the Democratic vote. Christie leads 52-29 with independents.

In Maine 77% of Republicans support the overturn of gay marriage while 71% of Democrats are opposed to it. Independents say they’ll vote for it by a 52-46 margin.

In Virginia 94% of Republicans are for Bob McDonnell to 87% of Democrats for Creigh Deeds. McDonnell is up 63-33 with independents.

In Charlotte 89% of Republicans intend to vote for John Lassiter to 81% of Democrats for Anthony Foxx. Lassiter leads 51-40 with independents.

From the high levels of party unity it’s clear that Republicans voters see the path back to power will require staying on the same page. And whether it’s because the Democrats have bad candidates or they’re unhappy with President Obama, independents are giving the GOP very high levels of support. It should be the best Republican election night since George W. Bush got reelected.

>Watch them spin it (particularly in landslide Virginia) as “racist”.<

Here’s food for thought. The incumbant republican candidate for Roanoke City Sheriff is a woman who happens to be black. I spoke to one of her supporters at a rally, and expressed a bit of concern about the major push the Dems are mounting against her. The supporter told me this WASP candidate was waltzing into churches, announcing that he was “the Democrat”. One little old lady asked him straight out just what was he trying to pull with that statement.

LOL, the folks aren’t that gullible. Sheriff Johnson has done a good job and people like her.

good turnout at my central NJ (GOP leaning) district, not as high as last year, but stronger than most. Hopefully Christie can bring home the bacon!

Pretty quiet where I voted (NJ 'burbs). Walked right up to the desk, signed the log book, and voted. Nobody else was in there at the time (~9:45). Last year I had to wait in line a good half hour.

Weather-wise, it's a beautiful day, so I bet Corzine hires a few extra buses to 'escort' inner-city voters to the polls.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Christie, but this is New Jersey ...

After reading your post, I found a couple of web references to using enclosed pens for absentee ballots in NC. In particular, Granville County absentee instructions require the pen be returned with the ballot.

This is either a nifty way to secure absentee ballot votes, or to ensure fraud by delivering the pen for anonymous rogues to alter the ballot.

why not include a small pad of ink to add your thumb print to the ballot?

and I'm a jersey ex-patriot

It's not pretty

they used to have a system called Knock and drag (to the polls)

The new law this summer is a knock and fill out the absentee ballot

The dead and the nursing home vote is considerable

There is no credible reason for it to be more difficult to rent a movie at Blockbuster than it is to cast a ballot without ID in NJ

nothing personal ... but I'm glad we didn't have to watch a storm all season LOL ... thanks for all of your good work

.

Septa is on strike in Philly, so there are plenty of buses and plenty of Obamavoters ready and willing to head over to the PRNJ.

Slow at 10:30 in Ohio. We have some statewide referenda, but nothing for governor or Congress. Sadly, I feel the same for 2010.
