Peoria, Ill. - A federal judge sentenced an Al Qaeda "sleeper" agent to eight years in prison Thursday -- about half the time prosecutors had requested -- because the agent received what the judge called "unacceptable" treatment in a U.S. Navy brig.
U.S. District Judge Michael Mihm could have sentenced Ali Marri to as much as 15 years. Prosecutors had endorsed that, presenting testimony that he remained a threat.
But Mihm handed down the lighter sentence of eight years and four months in consideration of what he called "very severe" conditions under which Marri was kept during the almost six years he was held without charges in a U.S. Navy brig in South Carolina.

...Marri admitted he trained in Al Qaeda camps and stayed in Al Qaeda safe houses in Pakistan from 1998 to 2001. He also acknowledged having regular contact with Khalid Shaikh Mohammed...
Probably should have gotten .22.
8 years minus the 6 already served. Out in two.
Well, he can finish “sleeping” for 8 years or less, then continue with his agenda.
He can continue planning and recruiting.
Isn’t that special. We can thank Zero and his wimps.
Sounds like the judge counted the 6 years in the brig as time served.
This judge’s decision looks just like the Miranda rule. If the authority (policeman/soldier) makes a mistake in arresting or capturing a bad guy, the evidence accumulated when making that mistake is excluded. This goes against all common sense. Punish the arrestor, if you feel you must, but don’t let the bad guys go because the good guys made a procedural mistake!
Waht’s with Mihm? Is he one of those “Respect my authoratai” guys?
The Judge should have to serve that 6 years.
See # 4 - Out in two? USNBandit may be right - credit for time served - out in 2. Hope he goes after the judge first. :-(
Wanna bet this scumbag tries to kill people soon after getting out. He will be free and pissed!!
According to a CNN story, an inman held in a supermax prison still runs his al quada agents... maybe this guy was one of them.
Especially since all the sympathy seems to be FOR him.
“Sympathy for scum...........it’s not just for the ACLU anymore”
I think you are right and he may even get out SOONER. This is a travesty.
