That is really bizarre. People can lose even big dogs to packs of coyotes, but give me a baseball bat and I can vanquish legions of coyotes. I’ve heard of coyotes attacking humans before, but never more than one quick nipping bite before the coyote skeedaddles.

First, I doubt it. 2nd...It says ADULT...not human being...Half a lie is better?? Conservationist will blame it on her...like saying she was near where they had their babies....blah, blah, blah.

Now tell me they were reintroduced into this park...so I can really boil.

Umm, I may be dumb, but couldn’t you fight them off with a walking stick or a nine iron? I guess she didn’t have either at hand.

That is a myth . Deaths from canids were always reported as from wolves or domestic dogs , if the person survived it was reported as a coyote . Same wildlife resources logic that defines alfalfa as non-food to deer , because the amount they consume so much it would deplete the depredation account if farmers were paid for it .

I’ve been following coyote stories for years, and I have read of a few that have attacked children, or that bit an adult that was walking a small dog, but I have not ever read of an adult that was killed. Coyotes should all be killed, as far as I am concerned. I think they are a fringe predator that has grown exponentially due to the absence of wolves and cougars in their former territories.

Coyotes are Highly adaptable Opportunists.

If you act like Prey their Instincts take over.

“According to Wiki this is the first recorded incident of an adult
being killed by coyotes.”

Very weird.

As soon as I’ve ever gotten within visual contact with coyotes in
Oklahoma, Missouri, and even at the crest of the Santa Monicas
between Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley...
the common experience has been the following.

Coyote probably sees me first.
I finally see what I think is a dog...and then after my slow brain
finally says “hey, that’s not a dog...that’s a coyote!”...
the skitterish coyote is retreating at a fast trot to avoid contact.

Maybe those coyotes in Canada were just very hungry and felt “safety
in numbers”.

Coyotes routinely take down deer and stray dogs in my neighborhood but they have always steered clear of humans. At least so far...

I hate the possibility that I would ever phone in and escape without offering aid or protection. I don’t want to be that kind of person.

I believe that is true in modern times. There were cases back in the day but not clear how sick or injured the adult was or how many coyotes there were.

Another reason to go coyote hunting this week.

Coyotes are now classified as dangerous as swans. /s
There is a recorded death attributed to a swan.
(Jumped on a swimmers head and drowned him.)

My buddy just wrote a book about coyote hunting. Ironically enough it is called “Ready For Anything.” This poor gal obviously wasn’t.  Predator hunting is a lot of fun and there needs to be more of it.

You can see his book and blog on coyote hunting here http://rizzoisready.blogspot.com/

A couple of years ago a pack of coyotes invaded a very professionally built and handled breeding kennel in British Columbia and killed every male on the property. It was a bizarre happening -- the place had been there for about 50 years (the owner, now deceased was one of the primary breeders in the breed in both the US and Canada) without any type of such an invasion.

I think there is probably another factor involved in these Canadian incidents. I have had two of my breeding taken away by coyotes over the years, but never the wholesale slaughter as in this incident in Canada.

My prayers for this young entertainer, I have been to her pages and listened to her very pleasant music (my preference in genres).

They're getting to be more present EVERYWHERE in the US.

I think it's safe to say that in N.W. Kansas such an incident would never happen. Coyotes are hunted and shot on sight to the point that if one sees or hears you, no matter how far away, they hightail it......and that's the way it should be.

FWIW, I just heard on the news this evening that a 3 pack of coyotes is roaming around either Grosse Point Shores or St. Clair shores, here in S.E. Michigan and residents should be on the look out....

Because of “internet medicine” and extreme centralization of the socialized system, Canada’s Maritime provinces have only one central city with serious hospitals capable of administering more than just aspirin... and that is Halifax. If you are outside the perimeter, and face an emergency, you will be flown to Halifax. This can add hours to a life threatening situation. FYI, my 90 yo aunt was allowed to die in N.B. because the airlift was deemed too expensive. This is advanced socialized medicine at work. If I were this singer’s family, I would sue and sue big time.

Wolves are even more dangerous. Its nuts to walk in the woods alone without a gun. The fact that a 911 cellphone call even worked means it wasn’t in the deep remote.
