Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

When I first started investigating CPS abuses, I was absolutely floored! The Florida man I referenced up thread, his case broke my heart. Their daughter that was sick looked ALOT like my little daughter.
wow...See 1580
1580?? Gezzzz..
The reporting on this was practically normal, from what I heard.
I still wait more info about what the intent of this gadget was... but as for “hovering” ... the only reason it would not go higher is that it was tethered to the ground! Perhaps that was the dad’s intent, but I seriously doubt it.
The reporters are so scatterbrained that they don’t know ANYTHING about serious items, and they just make things up as they go along. As I said much earlier: 10% useful info, 20% complete distortions, 70% just ignorant.
The 20% distortions (example in this case: the 8,000ft above Sea Level high vs. 2000ft Above Ground Level conflicts) may be able to be deciphered. The “basket”, etc., was not decipherable for me anyway. The “hot air” was CLEARLY wrong. Those saying that it could not lift a 6yo are just wrong, given the size of the craft and accurate calculation. Some are thinking a 6yo has to weigh 100pounds instead of 40. Some just do poor math. Some were equating a hundred carnival balloons to this mylar craft, with all those balloon’s materials aggregated weight, that simply is not sensible for this case. Some just don’t realize that children can hide better than they’re given credit for, or lie better... or who knows.
I’m happy for the turn out, and really think it is a pretty typical “science” and “family” related story as far as the reporting accuracies.
I’m still hoping to hear sometime whether the 8yo knew that the 6yo was hiding... For his sake, I honestly hope he was telling the truth. I confidently believe that this was not a “hoax” by the parents, at all.
By the way... I’ve slept in my clothes at times for reasons very akin to storm chasing! LOL Often, I was in the car on station at the time, too.
Everyone (the media, the local police, fire depts, rescue crews) 'fell' for it, until it was proven the child was ok.
Is this not what we want in our country?
All these people did the 'right' thing, we all watched to ensure it, and now we criticize the media for following the story?
If you saw the episode, you’d know they’re BOTH nuts. Just in different ways.
I saw it and remember even the way the A+++++ dad EXPLODED at the swap wife. He was outrageous and over the top.
And the kids were foul and out of control.
Exactly!
Shep was clearly in car chase mode.
[I think it will be interesting to see how many are actually as ‘Christian’ and ‘tolerant’ as they profess.
I have a feeling this family’s life will now be ruined beyond repair. All because everyone wants to judge someone else.]
Thankfully your post wasn’t to me but I have some thoughts about it. It looks like they are doing a pretty good job of ruining their own lives! From what I’ve read, the family is into wife swapping, things like that. They are on strange TV shows I’ve never watched, and they make youtubes of their kids like this one;

I have seen far worse things written on threads about Zero’s kids. Not much Christian tolerance shown on them, and I’ve never heard of any misconduct on their part.
There but by the Grace of God go I, or any poster on this forum.
MNDude: Suppose you were an 8yo... saw your brother get into the balloon...
Now, all of a sudden, this HUGE 20’ balloon starts rising rapidly... and keeps going up. What are your eyes going to be on? The ground, or this massive balloon that you may have had some part in getting your brother to climb into! Forgive me if I’m truly gullible, but I can easily believe that the child didn’t notice his little brother still on the ground but instead he was riveted on the balloon!
Meanwhile, the 6yo knows this is a real no no oopsie! ... goes to hide. Who needs a bathroom when you’re 6?
You really must have had a tame childhood to not be able to imagine this being an honest incident all around! I can see it as honest from every angle!
interesting - she reminds me of YOKO ONO

I had not seen this post when I posted to you. Comments passing in the either.
He said he wanted to see how good the santa magic boots worked.
Never, never tell a kid that the reason santa does not fall off the roof is because he wears magic boots.

ROTFLMPO!!! Best one of the whole thread!
I suspect the older brothers knew that little brother had gotten off the balloon. The story is still developing.
That actually sounds like a great idea.
How was the demeanor of the parents at the new conference after Falcon was found?
What did they say, any explanation of the events ?
“From what Ive read, the family is into wife swapping, things like that. They are on strange TV shows”
Wife Swap is a TV show on ABC or NBC or something. While I think the show is stupid, there is nothing evil about it. The moms from two very different families switch places for a week or two. They care for each other’s children and try to fit in with the family. I think one week they go by the family rules and the next week they got by the “swapped’ moms rules. It isn’t about anything sexual. Christian families have been on there opposite atheist families. I wouldn’t do a reality show and especially this one because I wouldn’t want someone else caring for my kids. Like I said upthread, I think they are HORRIBLE parents but lets keep our facts straight. They aren’t into partner swapping.
I was up on roofs all the time, myself... house, barn, shed, chicken coops, etc... At 6yo, no... but at 8yo, I was all over trees... climbing from tree to tree, swinging from one to the other through the branches. Just like my brothers, sisters and neighbors.
Obviously we weren’t city kids...
