WASHINGTON – A second Republican senator signaled Wednesday she's open to voting for sweeping health care legislation this year, putting President Barack Obama closer to a historic achievement that has eluded generations of Democratic leaders.

But Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, told The Associated Press that the bill approved Tuesday by the Finance Committee needs substantial improvements to make coverage more affordable, contain costs, and protect Medicare. Nevertheless, she joined her Maine GOP colleague Sen. Olympia Snowe in endorsing the goal of far-reaching changes.

Interesting. Both women.
I think that women are overly concience about health care and the need for reform, more so than men. Maybe the motherly instinct or something like that.

Shouldn’t be blinded by leftist policies though. We need health care reform, but not gov’t take over.

Part of the Missouri Compromise was letting Maine become a state. The Missouri Compromise may have saved the Union in 1820, but we’re paying the cost for it now.

And both very stupid, ignorant and love the press they are receiving. Just love to see their names in the news. GOP Senators? Not on their best day. They are both a disgrace to America.

Nah, more like Harry Reid offered Snowe some kind of exemption for the state of Maine and Snowe either pulled Collins in with this offer, or the deal was sweetened if Snowe could bring Collins along.

There has to be someone in Maine who could run against these two losers in the primary.

Yes,there are those who could *run* but there's nobody who could *win*.I know it's hard for those who aren't from this part of the country to comprehend but we're *damn* lucky that we have Senators from Maine who are as good as them.*THAT'S* how bad things are around here.An example....Lincoln Chaffee in Rhode Island.Voted with RATS 96% of the time.Well,he was replaced by a filthbag RAT named Whitehouse who clearly believes that Hussein is a right wing Republican.

*That* truly is how bad things are in this part of the world.

But all the Maine folks I have met are brain-dead, more like Canadians than Americans.

I met a couple from Maine who had driven all night to be at the 9-12 rally. They were quite discouraged about their fellow state citizens, however.

Well of course I was be hyperbolic, I am sure there are lots of fine folks up there. Their electoral choices lately show that as a collective they are a menace to the republic.

Something like this had to be expected. You can’t get massacred in two consecutive elections in 2006 and 2008 and not think the democrats aren’t going to do at least one major thing.

Remember, don’t be a menace to the republic when you’re drinking your kool-aid in the halls of congress.

Should have never permitted Maine to split from Mass.!

Better yet, we should have let B.N.A. keep all of it they claimed was theirs.

Snowe said she wouldn't vote for a bill that includes “the public option”. So will she be for the bill before she was against it?
