'Obamamania' Cooling Off Fast Among Young
Associated Press ^ | Sept. 22, 2009 | Martha Irvine

CHICAGO -- Young Americans showed their collective power when they helped vote President Obama into office. Inspired by his message of "change," they knocked on doors, spread flyers, voted for him by a 2-1 margin, and partied like rock-the-vote stars when he won.

Since the election, though, that fervor has died down _ noticeably. And while young people remain the president's most loyal supporters in opinion polls, a lot of people are wondering why that age group isn't doing more to build upon their newfound reputation as political influencers.

"It's one thing to get excited about a presidential candidate. It's another thing to become a responsible citizen," says Jennifer Donahue, political director for the New Hampshire Institute Of Politics. She and other political analysts thinks they have yet to prove themselves.

It would be so much better for OZero to collapse on his own. Like he’s taken out of the WH in a straight jacket ... would that be neat?

Any change in the voting laws, like simply having to show proof of some income taxes paid...will not happen except by some kind of physical force.(IMO) The welfare class who have finally succeeded in electing one of their own will not give up easily.

This whole thing is the living nightmare of "elections have consequences".

I realize that millions of otherwise good Americans thought that they were doing an honorable thing in participating in a historic event...the election of the first man of color to be POTUS. The euphoria of the history evidently struck them with deafness and dumbness since Obama told us all numerous times what he was going to do...."We are only 5 days away from fundamentally changing America" were the chilling words which only a few people heard.

Now, I am afraid that either we are going to have to eat dirt, or fight.

I vote for fight. I tried dirt when I was three and I’ll pass. Much like Zero, it looked a lot better at first glance than it tasted in reality.

Wait until they get their notice to report for their 3 months of basic training that ‘bambi said they will be required to attend in conjunction their National Service.

They just took over all school loans, none will now be from private sector lenders.

You want to go to college = you will serve in bambi’s army.

Oh we do! It’s just a shame how they are when we receive them.

Doesn't matter, they still believe the bammster is “the one”. They know deep in their hearts that he will fly out of the sky and keep them safe from... Anything.

To be serious, though. The Iranians couldn't hold a candle to our Navy (assuming proper ROE).

I think a younger person is more likely to be influenced by what Saturday Night Live says, what Jon Stewart says, what Kanye West says etc. A person who’s been around for a while is more likely to have the wisdom to know that all these people are full of bologna.

I hope you are right. But from what I’ve read, Iran has put a great deal into development over the last decade and have significantly improved their ship and shore based missle tech.

A positive sign. Any thinking young person understands that they are survivors of a potential abortion. Obama is a relentless abortion promoter. His “stimulus” is an obvious graft machine that isn’t “creating” any jobs. Government doesn’t create jobs, at least not real jobs. Students are getting it. The thinking ones are understanding that their elders, the Baby Boomers, have spent the country bankrupt, and saddled them with a monstrously evil debt that extinguishes any hope of a decent standard of living. The thinking ones understand that our education system is a byzantine fraud, punching a ticket on a train to nowhere. The cause of freedom needs young revolutionaries. There is hope if our young people open their eyes to the illegitimacy of our political system.

Well, I’m glad younger people who supported and voted for Obama are coming around against him.  And I most certainly appreciate their honesty in not making excuses for their vote with comments such as “Bush or McCain would’ve been worse than Obama.”  They voted for him because they believed in him, and they don’t need to rationalize so they can feel better about their poor judgment.  After all, Obama won with the support of some conservatives as well, so obviously they are around.

On a long drive from the northeast to FL I noticed that Obama bumper stickers have disappeared, but I did see one McCain/Palin.

Wait until he takes control of the internet and dares to shut it off for "security reasons" the young people will go crazy.

Riots would surely break out, young people use the internet extensively. It would be the same as taking away their cell phones. Talk about a march on Washington.

Raise the voting age to 21, and add that you had to pay income tax in the prior year.

I concur, but I would make it previous 4 years, and include income and/or property taxes.

You know, Julie, I was going to mention that as well here on FR. We often go up to Boston for Red Sox games, and I always look for the Obama (and other kooky leftist) bumper stickers. There really ARE fewer of them these days, including here in deep-blue Connecticut...

We drove back from DC to CT on the NJ Turnpike in broad daylight last Sunday. My husband put a big IMPEACH OBAMA sign and other anti-Obama and anti-socialist signs on the car. We expected a lot of "democRATic salutes". We got a few of those, but the honks and thumbs-up FAR outweighed the middle fingers. These were NJ, NY, CT and PA cars, and it didn't appear to me that these people were coming back from the 9/12 March (although I can't prove that).

We drove up to Boston last week for a game with the same signs on the car... not ONE democratic salute, but several thumbs-up from people in MA cars.

Hmmmm....

Makes me proud to see some UMD folks that have NOT drunk the Kool-Aid!

I had to think about 'UMD'... then I went back and looked at their T-shirts and saw the 'terp'. University of Maryland, of course!

It gives me hope. We've run into a few of these enlightened young folks up here in CT (outside of tea parties, etc.) as well. After all of the Obamamania of the past couple of years, it IS refreshing...

Every bit of what you say is true.

But it was also true BEFORE the election.

Instead we are left with these insane clowns ripping at the fabric of our republic from the inside like weasels.
