CHICAGO -- Young Americans showed their collective power when they helped vote President Obama into office. Inspired by his message of "change," they knocked on doors, spread flyers, voted for him by a 2-1 margin, and partied like rock-the-vote stars when he won.
Since the election, though, that fervor has died down _ noticeably. And while young people remain the president's most loyal supporters in opinion polls, a lot of people are wondering why that age group isn't doing more to build upon their newfound reputation as political influencers.
"It's one thing to get excited about a presidential candidate. It's another thing to become a responsible citizen," says Jennifer Donahue, political director for the New Hampshire Institute Of Politics. She and other political analysts thinks they have yet to prove themselves.

Makes me proud to see some UMD folks that have NOT drunk the Kool-Aid!
The younsters graduating from college are moving home with Mom and Dad in record numbers and feeling lucky to find jobs at the local winery or waiting tables. Many don’t show up in the jobless statistics because they’ve never had a job in the first place and now can’t find one.

Yes, talk about a wake-up call! And here I always thought Navy kids (and Air Force, too) were a cut above the rest of the troops — guess I was wrong, or times have REALLY changed.
Not cultural literacy really, but just plain literacy. Nobody reads books anymore in this generation, except Harry Potter or some similar trash. When it comes to history, they are almost wholly ignorant about all but the most basic outline of American history, if that.
“and add that you had to pay income tax in the prior year.”
That would rule out most liberals.
Zero knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s doing what he was selected and groomed to do. Take over/destroy the last real bastion of democracy and capitalism.
dear friend, I appreciate all you ping me toward.. thanks.. sorry I missed you in DC. could not afford the convention & so just did what I could.. cant post much on FR due to stalker.. (sigh)
Yep, I don’t think we’ll have to change the age limit if we insist that those who paid the federal income tax the previous year is eligible to vote for the upcoming election. Of course that rule out elders from voting but then again it’ll mean we’re more likely able to get rid of social security.
“I dont think its that complex. The party ended, theyre waiting for the next one to start.”
Yeah . . . they must be looking at it kinda like make-up sex. . . :)
Why? A lot of former property owners have the right to vote, every bit as much as you do. People lose their property all the time for various reasons but most are losing it now due to the current depression (yes, I said depression, not recession). But, as long as government has the ability to tax the property we buy, nobody will ever truly be property “owners”.
Under an Obamanation, you would disqualify 90% of conservatives, since I believe they intend to take from the haves and give to the formerly have-nots.... just as all good little commies do and have done.
Think again.
I voted for Carter in 1976 at 23 years of age.
I voted for Reagan in 1980 at 27 years of age.
I guarantee y'all that I will NEVER vote for a 'rat again.
There are tens of millions like me.
Be patient.
That would be nice. Mr Ditter keeps fantasizing about Billary taking the zero out.
I thought that you military folks had ways to deal with new service folks with attitude.
I once voted for Jimmy Carter. Four years later I voted for Reagan. Let’s hope history repeats. Obama is worse than Carter. Who could be better than Reagan?

Amen!!!
In our NEW smaller government we should:
1. Seal our borders
2. Kick out all non-citizens
3. Stop all funds to other countries
4. No grants to any groups for any reasons
5. Only land owners, & veterans allowed to vote with picture ID & fingerprint at the voting place
6. TERM limts
7. A simple flat tax
8. A on-line monthly statement of tax monies received & spent...EVERY month.
Spot on. My daughter saw him speak during the campaign in Eugene, OR at U of O. She called me gushing how she was in the front row and how magical it was and, Dad! He wants to change things!!
I asked her “what exactly needs changing in our country” and I got dead silence, then “gotta run, Dad, talk to you later.” Not once could she tell me what needs changing.
I was very disappointed in the lack of critical thinking skills.
There will be little or nothing left by 2012 on our current track.
Yeah.... Good points.
5A. Purge the voter rolls. All of them. Make EVERYBODY re-register to vote. Kill motor voter, too. No registration on same day as voting, either.
