RNC Chairman Steele Welcoming Pro-Abortion Candidates to GOP
Intellectual Conservative Politics and Philosophy ^ | September 18th, 2009 | Teddy Sifert

Posted on 09/18/2009 7:26:33 PM PDT by cpforlife.org

What's next, is Steele going to welcome gun control candidates into the party? Candidates advocating for higher taxes and spending?

In a September 3rd interview, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele told a surprised Columbus Dispatch reporter that he would lead the charge of pro-abortion GOP candidates if abortion is a value in their community. Columbus Dispatch Senior Editor Joe Hallett asked Steele "if there is room in the party for a pro-abortion rights candidate…"

Hallett quoted Steele's reply:

"There absolutely is, there absolutely is… The key thing right now-and I think this is true for Republicans across the country-is to have leadership that reflects the communities I live in, where we're from. As we get ready for the battles that lie ahead from this district to all the districts surrounding the state, that you're going to find those candidates emerge and rise up who reflect those values in those communities, and that's a very important step for the party to take, I think, and I'm looking forward to help lead that charge in the future."

There are two glaring problems with his statement. First, the official Republican Party Platform states: "We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion and will not fund organizations which advocate it." Steele has thus flagrantly violated his own Party Platform by agreeing to fund the campaigns of GOP candidates who advocate abortion.

Second, the Platform touts itself as "The party of ideas, rather than a mere coalition of interests." But Steele's comments encourage candidates to be influenced by special interests in their communities rather than Republican principles of life, lower taxes, and smaller government.

It appears that Steele has forgotten that America elects representatives, not merely agents of puppeteer constituents. The words of the father of conservatism Edmund Burke in his 1774 speech at Bristol are more important now than ever: "Your Representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgment; and he betrays, instead of serving you, if he sacrifices it to your opinion."

This time, Steele is "lead[ing] that charge" of GOP candidates who refuse to protect preborn babies. What kind of pastel-colored GOP candidate will he welcome next? What if a candidate's community wants to give citizenship to illegal aliens , higher taxes, universal healthcare, and more government programs?

During the Jan. 4, 2009 RNC debate for the Chairmanship sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform, Steele revealed that he did not own a single firearm. Could this mean Chairman Steele will use RNC donations to welcome advocates of gun control next?

Mr. Steele is a modest man not given to sceaming matches. As appropriate as you or I might consider such things, he doesn't. On the other hand he is a strong anti-abortion guy ~ so when you get a Columbus Dispatch reporter (necessarily a Leftwingtard) saying, "Oh, yes, Steele supports pro-abortion candidates" your first initial take must necessarily be that the reporter is telling lies.

So, in answer to your question, yes, you must question the reporter's honesty and integrity, and as far as the writer scribbling in the publication where this report is found as a secondary document, I'd suspect he has his own choice for RNC chairman and it's not Steele.

You did know Steele is a Catholic, right? There are other issues at foot in this one.

I'm pretty sure that if Mr. Steele were a Holy Roller this sort of thing would be showing up in periodicals otherwise dedicated to trashing Sarah Palin. If he were Jewish the Washington Post would be trashing him every day. And if he were a Buddhist, you'd discover the same Hindu crowd that boosts Obama beating up on him.

IF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TAKES A PRO-ABORTION STANCE THEN I AM OUT OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

As soon as you ally yourself with liberals for the sake of the delusions of political expediency and supposed party loyalty, you lose the war.

As soon as you compromise principle, you lose the war.

There is no common ground with those who compromise with baby killing.

To countenance baby killing in any way is to destroy every good thing - every sacred principle - this country and its freedom is premised upon.

You “get Obamas” because of the compromise. Wake up.

An uncompromised American conservative movement would be the mightiest political force on the planet. Unstoppable. Unbeatable.

We've gone over this many times. Mr. Steele is a strong anti-abortion guy. Many of his opponents also claim they are anti-abortion, but they are also pro-Romney, pro-Pawlenty, pro-"whoever ~ anyone but another black guy" ~ I am sad to say.

You can't keep hanging your hat on these thinly sourced anti-Steele articles that are based on little more than a misrepresentation of what was or was not said.

Thinking Michael Steele is a “strong pro-abortion guy” is the equivalent of thinking a bowl of jello is a diamond.

Same old names coming up ~ did Mr. Steele frown at you or what.

I suspect some of your crowd are simply part of the Maryland Democrat party. They criticize him for being a pro-Lifer, and have made threats against his life.

Ah, so if we’re not RINO squishes, that means we’re Democrats.

Well, if you’re that determined to walk in delusion, nothing I say is going to make much difference.

No, if you are not Conservatives then you are most probably Democrats ~ and maybe even hard-core Obamistas.

And yet I am told by Rush and many on this board I can’t vote 3rd party ... it will just enhance the liberals winning. Quite frankly, right now I SEE VERY little difference anymore. Oh these dirtbags talk a big talk ... but fail to walk the talk

The RNC can go to hell. Losers in leadership. Believe nothing at all you will believe in anything. Used to be I quit sending my sheckels .. now I will stop my votes as well. Worthless dirtbags in the RNC begat worthless dirtbags on the ballot

IF this is true, it is finally third-party time.

A Republican leadership which essentially agrees with the Democrats on everything, CANNOT represent me.

Time for the GOP to go the way of the Whigs: let the GOP wither and become a shadowy coalition of sitzpinklers, with its symbol, not the elephant but the marshmallow.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

I’m not the only Republican who defected in ‘04, as the numbers show. And those who did vote for Keyes, if you talk to people on the ground, did so out of party loyalty and feel embarrassed about it.

If this, and the "Keyes is a nutcase" in #68 reflect your views, then they appear to contradict your values as stated on your homepage. (Keyes is not a nutcase, he is a Consitutional Fundamentalist.)

...paging Joe Wilson.

Seems I was right ~ you are seeking to undermine America and leave Congress in the hands of the criminal Obama regime.

I am on telling you that, while you and other disgruntled Conservatives can vote 3rd party, it will result in extending Obama’s communist reign by another 4 years. How many conservative justices will leave the SCOTUS in the next 7 years? The next 3, none. The next 7, at least one. Then you will see a 5-4 or 6-3 liberal SCOTUS with others like Sotomayor, who is left of Ginsburg.

Baby Bush sucked and was no Conservative, but he did give us Alito and Roberts. You go right ahead and flush your protest vote down the toilet. Then when we have socialized medicine, Cap and Tax, and a 6-3 liberal majority SCOTUS, I want you do look yourself in the mirror every single day, knowing you never even made an attempt to stop Obama’s communist takeover, by at least giving a Republican a chance to take the presidency and stop the transformation.

Castles Burning

by Savatage

In the dark and bleeding
With the shadows seething
There he stands alone
Fools and faith conspire
Questions of desire
That they never owned
Kings without their armor
Men without their honor
Spit out desecration
Pieces of a nation
Buried in the ground
Screams without a sound
Burn the castle down

In the end the children cried
That the jackal surely lied
When he said please listen all
Do not look behind these walls

Coffins drowned in roses
And the war he chose is
Fought inside the mind
Death becomes compelling
When the soul’s for selling
And the world is blind
In the maze he wanders
Looks about and ponders
Shadows mock and taunt him
And the ghosts that haunt him
Chain him to the ground
Screams without a sound
Burn the castle down

In the end the children cried
That the jackal surely lied
When said please listen all
Do not look behind these walls

And does the pendulum toll
Against the side of he soul
When if feels the final moment is near
Do you rage against the dark
Try to re-write the part
Turn around and face what you fear
What you fear

He’s seen it all before
Close your eyes and close the door
And the dreams that knights embrace
Slowly leave behind a trace
