Happy Birthday, US Constitution!This preordained parchment laid forth the three branches of our government: a bicameral Legislative Congress; an executive branch led by the President; and a judicial branch headed by the Supreme Court.
Of the 4,543 words in the Constitution, perhaps none are more powerful or more poignant of the true reason our Republic exists than those found in our Preamble:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. If you forgot to send a birthday card today, or bake a cake with 222 candles on top no worries.
Do the next best thing please set aside just five minutes of your day to spend some time with the old lady the US Constitution.
As you read each word, try to fully appreciate the gift our Forefathers gave us, and why its so important that we “The People must continue to protect the US Constitution for ourselves, our children and future generations who will follow in our footsteps in the centuries ahead.
