PRESIDENT Obama's State Department waited until the cusp of Labor Day weekend before publicly backing Latin America's dictators in their assault on democracy.
Our thug-worshipping diplomats figured they'd slip it by us. With the nation focused on barbecues and the beach, they announced that, if Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez's client, Manuel Zelaya, isn't returned to power in Honduras, the United States won't recognize the results of that country's upcoming free elections.
Why was former president Zelaya driven from his would-be throne in Tegucigalpa? He tried to subvert Honduras' Constitution and set himself up as president-for-life.
In June, the elected legislators and the Honduran Supreme Court had enough. As Zelaya aligned with Chavez, the Castro regime, Nicaraguan caudillo Daniel Ortega and other extreme leftists, the Honduran government gave the would-be dictator the boot.
Acting under legal orders, the army peacefully arrested Zelaya and shipped him out of the country. No murders, no Chavez-style imprisonments.
It was not a military coup. An elected congress and interim president, not a general, run the country today.
But the Obama administration has decided that this "violation" is so dreadful that we won't even recognize future free elections in Honduras.
Well, President Obama's taste in elections is finicky:
* He'll recognize the utterly bogus results of Afghanistan's corrupt election.
* He initially blessed the results of Iran's rigged election. (He was for it before he was against it.)
* He hasn't spoken one word of criticism as Chavez continues to strangle Venezuelan democracy.
* He hasn't questioned the divisive, racist politics of Presidente Evo Morales in Bolivia.

Just wait until the Sept 11 “National Day of Service” ceremonies and remembrances.
I'm sure the Honduras government people stay up nights worrying what a Chavez sycophant thinks.
If Obama can promote Communism in other Nations maybe he feels it will make his job of turning America Communist easier.....
George Bush wasnt a great President, but he was a proponent of Democracy, while Obama is a Communist.
Obama and friends. Communists. The Communists infesting the country are coming out of the woodwork and in to the light. You might be surprised to find out how many of your friends are sypathetic to their ideas. The Health care scam is helping to expose them.
This is not my government.
I’m really impressed by our strong and committed Republican leadership in Congress and how they regularly call out the President on this foolishness. (do I really need a /s tag)
I’ll always remember my father’s reaction when he caught his Swedish-born and very left-wing uncle preaching communism to me at the age of 10 or 11: he threw him out of the house.
I wonder how many modern parents would do the same thing?
I fear that nowadays communism is considered just one more political viewpoint that is just as legit as any other.
Maybe that’s how we ended up with a president like Obama. Plenty of people knew what he was but thought, “so what?”
Peters is absolutely right on this. He defends Bush for his actions in supporting democracy and wonders what has happened to the US, but I think we're overlooking the fact that the anti-democracy leftists were solidly embedded in the State Dept. and other governmental offices or agencies even at the time that Bush was president. Bush attempted to replace some of them in the Latin America division, at least, and was able to bring about some changes, but he was never able to effect a complete transformation of State.
In fact, I think that one of the reasons he was under assault and completely undermined by his own departments and agencies was his support for democracy against the leftwing dictators so adored (albeit secretly) by the Marxists in the State Dept.
The press turned on Bush and made everything he did look ridiculous; but I think the attack of the Marxists from within came first, and with a few judicious "leaks" (of material that was not at all sensational, but which they twisted to look so), they threw chum in the water for the press and the feeding frenzy began.
Another thing that is very similar is that the left loves show trials, and it is virtually a classic technique for a left wing dictator to accuse a former non-leftist government of all sorts of "crimes against humanity" and stage a circus in which they are tried for these imaginary things and usually sentenced to death. Evo Morales is currently conducting a show trial of the former legally-elected president of Bolivia, who had to flee under the attack staged by the Marxist unions and "indigenist" groups, including one led by Evo Morales.
Holder is clearly planning on doing the same thing in the case of the Bush government. Obama is a Marxist, like everyone around him, and he will follow the Marxist dictator pattern.
Sure, the old “family of nations” concept. One big, happy, commie family. Just like the family Hussein came from.
I’m sure you’re right. Foggy Bottom has been rife with leftists since the ‘30’s. McCarthy and other so-called “red baiters” weren’t making things up.
