Arianna Huffington, a long-time friend and one-time employer of Van Jones, thanked Fox's Glenn Beck on Monday evening for leading the charge that resulted in the environmental adviser's resignation.
Confused? Well, Huffington does describe Beck's calling attention to Van Jones' past radical statements -- on televion and radio -- as a "vile and vicious smear campaign." But in the end, she claims that Jones will be more effective working outside of government.
I remember going to the White House this spring for a briefing of journalists by David Axelrod. Before the meeting, Van and I met for a quick coffee and I was hit with the same overwhelming thought: how much we were going to miss his voice on the outside.
Beck only showed Van Jones videos. Van Jones did the speaking.
So ...... facts = smear?
Huffington also writes on how in the Internet age, any statements someone makes in the past can be used against them later on, and “if the sliming of Van Jones is an indication of how things are going to be, a lot of 20-somethings posting to their Facebook pages as we speak better start worrying about the digital crumbs they are leaving behind for the future Glenn Becks of the world.”
NY Times columnist Tom Friedman made a similar point yesterday “Meet the Press.”
Van Jones wasn’t a 20 something when he made his statements. Liars all.
Van wasn’t a 20 something when he signed that 9/11 petition.

Since when did “vile and vicious smears” cause someone to resign? Huffington needs to get the boys and girls up on The Hill off their duffs and have some hearings about what really happened here! WHY did he resign and WHO made him do it!
Exposing Jones by showing his actions and words Arianna is only the tip of the iceberg. The same will happen with the other Czars.
And just who is data mining all that information for the future Glenn Beck’s of the world Arianna? Oh, right. Obama.
Idiot.
Yo Huff, remember Sarah Palin? Remember what happened to her in 2008 (and still happens today)? You have no right to bitch.
He did? I just thought he was telling the truth...
She’s right about that, but what she doesn’t admit is that the politics of personal destruction is not new, not invented by or used exclusively by Beck, and is used all the time by liberals against conservatives and vis versa.
One of Governor Arnie’s few good contributions to the political world was when he put this miserable shrew down without mercy during the recall election.
But if a candidate for Gov of Virginia made some stupid and offensive comments in a grad school thesis 20 years ago that’s a crime of epic proportions and worthy of two front page stories in the WaaaaPo. Hypocrisy thy name is Huffington.
Glenn reported facts. Unlike what the left did with the Palin smear campaign. Now that was vile.
When D's are in power, it is NOT okay to quote people, in their own words (a la Beck in exposing a radical, self-avowed communist a-Holes) and report it as criticism. This type of 'speaking truth to power' is being engineered to be illegal via additional radical, self-avowed communist a-Holes.
