No.10 turns on Obama and Clinton for criticising decision to release Lockerbie bomber
Daily Mail Online ^ | 3:14 AM on 06th September 2009 | Simon Walters

President Obama and the US Secretary of State fuelled a fierce American backlash against Britain, claiming Abdelbaset Al Megrahi should have been forced to serve out his jail sentence in Scotland – but a senior Whitehall aide said their reaction was ‘disingenuous’.

British officials claim Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton were kept informed at all stages of discussions concerning Megrahi’s return.

The officials say the Americans spoke out because they were taken aback by the row over Megrahi’s release, not because they did not know it was about to happen.

‘The US was kept fully in touch about everything that was going on with regard to Britain’s discussions with Libya in recent years and about Megrahi,’ said the Whitehall aide.

‘We would never do anything about Lockerbie without discussing it with the US. It is disingenuous of them to act as though Megrahi’s return was out of the blue.

Well said - 'ole Muammar may be the favorite despot we love to hate, be he's no fool. He comes from a part of the world that does not suffer fools, and has been around a long time - never good to underestimate him since he's a survivor and will flex however he needs to, retreats from strength, advances when there is weakness. He's a player that's definitely out of Obum's league for sure.

They’ve known for months. This is Gordon Browns last nail. I think the media is going to be able to protect Obama from this one.

The question is definitely not that Obama is a liar, the question is, does the guy EVER tell the truth? The sham wow guy as more credibility than Obama.

Bush & Cheney - The Great Defenders, got Libya to hand over its super secret unknown nuclear weapons over without a shot fired on Libyan soil. Obama and Clinton - The Weak Kneed Enablers, released a Muslim Terrorist who killed hundreds of Americans. THAT is the difference between a Conservative Government and a Progressive Government. Nuff said.

Al Megrahi was indicted in the U.S. in 1991, according to Wikipedia. Surely we have an extradition treaty with Scotland. Why wasn’t it invoked?

Yep. You nailed that one. He wouldn’t be playing these games with Cheney. He knows Obama is a weakling, so he’s testing the waters to see how far he take it.

I wonder if Obama will bomb something inside the Pakistan border this week to distract everyone.

I don’t know the answer to your question of why but I found this.

August 2009

Foreign Secretary David Miliband has been urged by US human rights campaigners to review the “unfair, lopsided” US-UK extradition treaty.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said the “tragic” case of computer hacker Gary McKinnon emphasised the need for British courts to have the power to refuse extradition in the “interests of justice”.

The letter was sent as Liberty, the ACLU’s sister group in the UK, staged a protest outside the American Embassy in London, alongside Mr McKinnon’s mother Janis Sharp.

ACLU executive director Anthony Romero told Mr Miliband he was concerned that the extradition treaty posed a threat to the rights of British people.

He said the “unfair lopsided aspect” of the treaty meant that while Americans could only be extradited to the UK if “probable cause” had been established, there was no equivalent provision for Britons facing extradition to the US. This left British residents exposed to the risk of “ill-founded” extradition requests.

Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty said: “The intervention of Liberty’s sister, the ACLU, proves that Britain’s Extradition Act is an international embarrassment.

So much for increasing America’s standing in the world, Zero is burning bridges right and left because of his outright stupidity (not that I really care what socialist Europe thinks). This guy could screw up a cup of coffee.
