'FOX News Reporting: Do You Know What Textbooks Your Children Are Really Reading?'
Fox News ^ | Sept. 4, 2009 | Fox News

Posted on 09/06/2009 6:23:17 AM PDT by Freedom Dignity n Honor

Host Tucker Carlson, asked experts, teachers, publishers and parents the same question: "Do you know what is inside your children's textbooks?" From kindergarten through college, we found staggering errors and omissions which may be pushing agendas, hidden and otherwise.

We spoke to the author of "The Language Police," education historian Diane Ravitch, who said textbook publishers censor images or words they deem to be controversial in children’s textbooks. She told us that publishers pander to special interest groups, and assemble bias and sensitivity review committees. These committees decide what words to ban or redefine, and even what images are deemed offensive.

And we examined some college textbooks both in print and in digital forms. We found a glaring mistake in an expensive history book written by Alan Brinkley, Provost at New York’s Columbia University.

And in Fairfax County Virginia, questions remain about what textbooks are used in the private Islamic Saudi Academy. The ISA teaches about 1000 students each year pre-K — 12. Questions have been raised about its textbooks at least since 2006.

This summer, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, ISA’s 1999 valedictorian, was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a 2002 Al Qaeda plot to assassinate President George W. Bush.

The ISA is wholly owned by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and teaches students from textbooks, which according to a report by a Saudi scholar interviewed by FOX News, continues to “propagate an ideology of hate to the unbeliever...

snip

We tracked down two American college professors who were paid by the ISA to review these textbooks. They signed a letter obtained by FOX News that the ISA's 2008-2009 textbooks' do not contain inflammatory material…” One of them sat down for an interview; the other refused.

I don’t know enough of Catholic theology or social teaching that I could provide 8-12 years of daily lessons on the Catholic faith like you get in school.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Where on earth did you learn this?? Who taught you that you couldn't possibly know enough????!!!

Did teachers in an institutional type of school that teaching you this lack of self-confidence? Maybe teachers do this so they can preserve their jobs. If they make the child ( and later the adult) lack self-confidence in their own ability to teach really basic stuff, they get to keep their jobs.

Honestly, it isn't rocket science, and with today's technology and the Internet almost anyone could do it.

By the way, almost all learning happens in the home through the efforts of the parents and the child himself. What institutional schools do is organize a curriculum and send it home for the parents and child to work on **at home**!

I totally agree! We are adults and the SRM should treat us that way but they have a communist agenda to promote.

When my kid was watching Digimon about 6 years ago, the evil enemy “disk” looked exactly like the Washington Monument (my favorite President) so I made sure he knew what the creators of the show were saying graphically. Sometimes he gets tired of hearing me, but he is vocal at school when confronted. At work, I’m sarcastic. :)

Why is anyone surprised by textbooks being re-written by the liberals when we allow the liberals to run the public schools on a national level?

Think of how much better it would have been with me in it :)

Well Tucker has been on the payroll for months, and has had almost no air time, so they had to give him something to do to justify the decision to hire him. Also he is a sop to bowtie wearers, who don't get enough from George Will.

Yes, I think Fox news and other media outlets should hammer info like this hard and repeatedly to get through to the masses.

I never liked Tucker. He comes across as a fake Republican. I think the guy is a Democrat pretending to be a Republican.

Personally, I have no respect for either party now. Most of the Democrats (more than 51%) are sell outs, and the Republicans are not much better.

I do respect people that are Conservative only or even first. People that are NOT afraid to do the right thing. Just my two cents.

Your words are very important. I agree with them.

Back in the "olden days," didn't the local community pay what they could for a teacher and a schoolhouse?

Educated citizens are necessary for the success of each town, city, and county.

Capitalistic is good but there would have to be someone or something to force some no good parents to send their kids to school and pay for it.

If you really care about your kids education you will make the sacrifices necessary to put them in Catholic school.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Too many Catholic schools are thoroughly infected with Liberation Theologists. These schools aren't Catholic. They are Marxists. They are teaching the children to worship Karl Marx instead of God.

The best way to assure that a child receives a thoroughly Christian education ( Catholic or Protestant) is to do it yourself! The stats prove it. More than 95% of homeschooled children remain faithful to and active in their faith.

By the way, I attended 10 years of Catholic K-12 schooling and I am a graduate of Villanova University, an Augustinian CINO college. I **know** about the worship of Karl Marx from first hand experience.

Thanks. I can get to that page just fine. I just don't see any link to the video report itself on that page. (I'll try again later after I've had my coffee.)

I agree. Most of our elected Republicans are dem-lite.

Conservatism is the only way.

Sorry, maybe I need more coffee, too. :) I must have misread your post. :)

I saw it on TV, don't know when/if they'll put up a video. It was an hour long program. Maybe youtube?

This has been going on for years. Now is anyone going to actually confront the Saudis?

Absolutely!

If and when we have communist dominated medicine we will have arguments about why we can’t eliminate it.

Government schools: The poor will be illiterate!
Government medicine: The poor will die in the streets!

Please read post #46.

Are you among those who believe that government schools could be reformed “if only” they were run by conservatives?

No, government schools can not be reformed “if only” conservatives ran them. Again, please read post #46.
