Thanks for repeating this. I started saying it yesterday. I think there is one official counting day, where the county or whoever does a physical head count. That number gets them their budget money. Our schools send a letter urging parents to make sure their kids are in school that day. If you want to influence the principal, tell them you will keep you kids out on THAT day.

It goes back a lot longer than that. I think that when Robert Bork got the reception he got from the Democrats then that really started it and it grew from there. Reagan begot Clinton which begot Bush which begot Obama. Now each side is using anything as an excuse to retaliate against the other.

Maybe I'm personalizing it too much, but I think the situation is now qualitatively different.

I know that I never felt such loathing and contempt for a president as I do for Obama. I didn't like many of Bill Clinton's policies, and I voted against him, but I still respected him as commander in chief. I could trust him to make an apolitical, wholesome speach to children.

I can't say the same for Obama. I simply do not trust him for a second. Everything he does seems to be calculated to advance his radical agenda, which I loath and which I believe might very well destroy the country I love.

My hunch is the same thing is true about GW Bush and people to the left of center. The loathing and contempt they had for him was unprecedented.

“Probably about how much you owe Black people and how worthless you and your culture are”

- Because the poor, downtrodded Black community has not had enough time to get over ... well, whatever it is that they cannot get over!

Opting out is not enough. If schools proceed with this, even with an opt-out option, we have lost.

The public schools have no business indoctrinating children in collectivist ideology. The public schools have only the business to educate, not indoctrinate.

I mostly agree with that. Consider they are government schools. Also read the Communist Manifesto. I have considered it might be a good thing if its transparent and Obama attempts to talk to k-12 grade every week, mandatory. This is why vouchers are not such a bad idea. Why does a poor child have to listen to this windbag when Sasha, Obama’s daughter’s school is not pressured to listen to this drivel?

My two boys went to a private Christian school (K-8) and I seriously doubt they would have shown this speech if parents were against it. I feel for the folks who have kids in public schools. I would DEFINATELY keep my kid home that day.

Thats a brilliant idea, Munson. And one that sounds like Rush himself would come up with. It would be most important. I hope they bite.

Here is some more awesome: By Scott Whitlock | September 2, 2009 - 15:56 Of the three morning shows, only ABC’s highlighted just how quickly and severely Barack Obama’s approval ratings have fallen. Jake Tapper bluntly explained, "Since taking office, President Obama's approval ratings have fallen more steeply than any other newly-elected president in modern history." Essay: The President Without a Country By Pat Boone | September 3, 2009 - 10:59 "We're no longer a Christian nation." - President Barack Obama, June 2007 "You might say that America is a Muslim nation."- President Barack Obama, Egypt 2009 Now I would love to hear Obama explain that to the kids.

an individual literacy activity directed by the teacher

instead of listening to the speech they get to read the transcript of the speech as feed by the teleprompter.

"If a child chooses not to watch the speech,"

The "choice" is NOT the child's to make. Someone needs to make this clear to the powers that be that the "child" is, by law, still the responsibility of their parents and if their parents do not want their child corrupted by obama's propaganda then the school has the obligation to honor the parent's wishes in this matter. Should the school officials not wish to honor the parent's wishes as confirmed by a signed and dated letter from the parents then all school officials not abiding by the parent's wishes should be arrested, jailed and/or fined the same way any other adult would be for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Just a suggestion.

The children belong to the parents, not the school and not to the pResident.

If he wants to speak to the children...he needs to show his speech to the parents.

the pResident has proven repeatedly, he can not be trusted to say proper things during a “speech”.

Who knows...maybe the kids’ parents are “acting stupidly”?

We live in a reasonable district as far as this stuff goes. Here’s what we received without asking for the school’s position on this.

Dear Parents,

As you may know, on Tuesday, September 8, President Obama will be addressing our nation’s students.

The first day of school is generally a very full day for teachers and students, and many students will be either at lunch or in a classroom with previously planned activities taking place at that time. We have also received a few calls from parents who are concerned about elementary and middle school students viewing a message parents have not had the opportunity to preview. Furthermore, as a general rule, we do not show live television, as we cannot determine the content; therefore, teachers are not showing the President’s speech on Tuesday.

The address will be reviewed by Central Office administration and a decision will be made regarding showing the address to students. If it is decided that it will be shown to students, a letter will be sent to schools by our Educational Services Department to send home for parental information regarding the address and parent permission.

It is our understanding that the President’s message to students is to work hard, set high educational goals and take responsibility for their learning. We encourage parents to discuss with their children what this means within the context of their family’s educational goals.

For further information regarding the Presidents address to students you may go to http://www.ed.gov/admins/lead/academic/bts.html.

Respectfully,

Kenneth Gutman
Superintendent
Lake Orion Community Schools

I’m communicating with the school superintendent via email now.

Do you have any example I can use of children who opt out being called racists?

someone on this thread said it happened to them..but if you don’t want to use that specific case..it shouldn’t be too hard for a Superintendent to understand how likely that is too happen..especially if he has been in tune with his school over the past two years and the divide that is growing..
