The Duggers and Overpopulation
Post Scripts ^ | 9/2/09 | OneVike

The news is out that Jim Bob and Michelle Dugger are having another child, their 19th. Yes you read correctly, 19 children and their oldest son's wife is expecting their first child. Let us all pray that he follows in his parents footsteps, by having as many children and being as prosperous as his parents. I have heard many people ask the question, "Are they keeping up the household without being on the government dole?" The answer to that question would be that they have never received a dime of taxpayer's money. That is not how they operate. In fact the Duggers run a their own ,business which teaches people how to budget and save by buying only what you can afford among other businesses they own and operate. They built their own home themselves, and had it paid for before it was finished. Right about now many liberals are screaming that the world is already overpopulated and this couple are just adding to the problem. Overpopulated? Is it really?

When it comes to having children, most Christians understand that the Lord opens and closes a woman's womb, and it has been that way from the beginning of time. However, mankind has tried to control that which God said is in His control. The first commandment given to man was, “Be fruitful and multiply Gen 1:22”, and He re-iterated that command again after the Flood when he told Noah, “Be fruitful and multiply Gen 9:7”. Try as I may, I have yet to find any passages where God rescinded that command. What He does tell us, is that if we put our faith in Him, He will supply our needs. Something the Duggers have proved time and time again.

yep...but it has zero to do with folks like the Duggars.

world pop growth has been spurred by adequate food and medical getting to once desperate locales where babies died off like flies

Something that is not discussed very much is that male fertility is down in the developed world

it is markedly in the GenX and Y crowd...like nearly 25% mean decline just since 1980s

why?

many causes and it seems to affect the educated white class more

man...young white males today outside of spec ops just look so underdeveloped and wussy looking...more slightly built...i will bet blacks ...who are quite larger than when i was a boy do not have the same decline

Yes, you’re right about young men, a lot of them now are very spindly looking.

I once read that dropping male fertility is common in the upper classes (that is, those that have more food and leisure) in all developed cultures, and was one of the reasons that royal families were often unable to produce heirs. The speculation I read was that it was a natural reaction of the body to having a surplus of food: the body no longer has to fight as hard to survive and carry on the species, children that are born tend to live, and the result is that over time, the fertility of a given population drops to adapt to the future expectations and prevent overpopulation.

If that’s true, this body (and world)that God designed has got it all worked out and handles the needs perfectly! One of the reasons we are having such a depopulation crisis in Western Europe is that this drop in fertility was probably occurring naturally in any case, and then the zero population growth nuts got in there and artificially pressured it even lower through anti-child propaganda. The result is not enough babies to even replace their parents.

I don’t know about the rate among blacks. I know the black birth rate is down, but that could be because blacks are a big target of the abortion industry.

In point of fact, these parents take special care to give attention to each child.

But beyond that, well-raised children in a child-rich family give love and attention to each other. The love and care goes 'round and 'round. They entertain each other, they watch out of each other, they learn from each other.

Kids don't divide the amount of personal interaction and affection available to each one: they multiply it.

I love big families, esp. those who take good care of their families and don’t expect the gov’t to do it. I admire the Duggars more than I can say. Love and blessings, M

Well, I’m an only child. That’s what seems “normal” to me.

Ex wife and I had two kids, that seemed like a lot.

These folks? Seems a bit obscene really.

Just too many in my opinion.

What you’re used to, of course, “feels” normal, and I can understand that. But here we have generous childbearing by people whose time, health, talents, energy, interests, and material resources fully support this generosity: your idea that this is “obscene” is -— let me choose a word carefully here -— unfounded.

14”Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them.

15 To one he gave five talents[a] of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.

16 The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more.

17 So also, the one with the two talents gained two more.

18 But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money.

19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.

20 The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’

21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!’

Looks like the Duggers are doing so well with the ones they've had entrusted to them that they've earned more trust.

My dad was too - that's why he thought the four of us were constantly verging on homicide. He's greatly relieved to see how our relationships have matured.

I admit that at any given time growing up there was at least one sibling I would have paid to have taken away, but now that we're all adults, I wish there'd been a couple more. We're pretty close.

A bit obscene? Mmmm I think you’re just jealous because Mr. Duggar always “gets some.”

man...I would be leery about denying God and his son if you’ve had ample instruction in your youth.

course Peter did it and survived ..for a while anyhow.

i hope you find what you are looking for , I know many RCC reared who later reject it

sorta like Jews do come to think of it

not many Southern Prods can escape the upbringing...lol...or the family’s admonishments..you can make of that what you like

think Dante on LSD ..or Cotton Mather in jackboots

it works and in the long run I think we are better for it

this new kumbaya stuff I see here so much passing for old time religion is foreign to me
