There's quite a buzz going around about Tuesday, September 8th.
That's the day President Obama will address PreK-12 students via televisions and screens in public school classrooms, auditoriums, and 'cafetoriums' across the nation. This is a feat never before attempted by a sitting president.
Reactions are mixed, no doubt in part because our nation is politically polarized. While some parents think it is a good idea for the president to reach out to school kids, others disagree. Why? Many prefer to be the gate-keeper of social and spiritual influences and want politics and religion kept out of schools.
Some parents view the president's move as over-reaching and suspect that propaganda will be forced on a young, impressionable, captive audience. Many of these concerned parents are rallying to keep their children home on September 8th. There are movements at work to boycott public schools on that Tuesday.

Fascism on the march!
I am hoping this will cause such an uproar the plan will be changed.
Keep your children home. Sending them to school that day would be child abuse.
If I had kids I’d send notes to school and tell them that my children do not watch government propaganda on school tv’s and they are to be exempted from any class that is required to watch this KRAP!
My kids are in a private school. Thank God!
Do you know whether this is something the rest of us can view “live”? Fortunately my kids are grown now, but I would still like to see what kind of progaganda he has to deliver to the kids. I hope that many parents pressure their schools to not show this or at least withdraw their kids from the session or for the day.

“Now the only reason I could fathom to be against this type of speech to your children, is because you yourself are 1) an idiot or 2) a racist.”
ZZZzzzzzzz!
It does wear thin ~ doesn’t it?
That’s a good question. I had understood it was going to be ‘broadcast’ from a particular website. I’ll try to find out....or another FReeper may know.
Once you get the kids, you got ‘em...
If true, it’s the day after Labor Day.
My kids started school in mid-August (the earliest ever).
They deserve a four day weekend ;)
Too bad its not my fourth-grader’s class. Coming up to the election I explained what’s going on to her. I tried to be very civil on the subject of Obama, restricting myself to just saying I don’t agree on some things because I didn’t want to turn her against Obama and possibly get the repercussions in class that I’d read about around that time.
Then she tells me she flat-out doesn’t like him and doesn’t trust him. I asked her why and she said that’s the feeling she got from him just seeing him on TV.
I’m so proud of my kid. :)
I’ve already told my daughter she doesn’t have to attend. This will occur on her lunch break.
My grandson will be at home that day.
NYC private schools don’t start til later that week, so I’m OK. Zero’s kids’ school opens the day of His speech.
What will happen about the ‘equal time’ provisions. Who will be allowed to offer rebuttal to the exact same forum??
It appears that the “equal time” and “fairness” veils are being dropped,
and they’re coming right out and showing us that they intend to ONLY allow their message to be disseminated.
