A Gwinnett County man is in custody Wednesday accused of slapping a stranger’s crying toddler in a Stone Mountain Wal-Mart.

Witnesses say that Roger Stephens, 61, warned the mother of the child that he would “shut up the crying child if she couldn’t,” WSB-TV is reporting. Stephens is accused of slapping the 2-year-old multiple times in the face and then walking away.

A bystander held Stephens until store security came to assist, according to the story.

why don’t they leave them at home?
It makes life hell to always have to be around so many undisciplined children.

I am one of the nicest, calmest, and mildest mannered people you could ever know.. but there is a downside lurking somewhere deep. Flat out, if that was my kid, I would have killed that man.

It’s against the law to leave small children at home alone, even if one was an idiot and wanted to try it.

If your life is hell, kill yourself.

Years ago, while standing in line at a grocery store, the baby behind me was absolutely screaming. The mom acted like a bit indiffernelty. The guy behind her loudly exclaimed to her; “Hey lady, you’ve got an ugly baby!”

At which point the mom started to cry.

sad

How am I supposed to leave my kid home? She’s four months old right now but sometimes she fusses in the store and it could annoy people. But I have to buy her diapers too. You can’t leave a four year old alone. Wait til another parent is available and just one of you go? Sometimes that doesn’t work.

Now, you said “undisciplined” so I’ll assume you mean awful kids not fussy ones. I bet a lot of them are from single mothers and there’s really no one to leave them with... assuming Mom is not oblivious to her kids’ awfulness anyway.

Good grief...we're talking about a two-year-old here...

Somebody else's two-year-old.

And a lot of parents who do believe in spanking do not believe in slapping childrens' faces. (My parents when I was a rugrat, for example...) Roger was waaaaaaaay out of line. He butted in where he had no business and assaulted someone else's kid whose biggest crime may have been that he didn't get a nap and was worn out.

What parent can get a babysitter everytime they need bread and milk? Or a box of diapers? Life isn’t always perfect.

I was thinking of that guy in Oklahoma who grabbed the Texas University fan by the gonads and just about separated them from the guy’s body.

Of course where the problem comes in is that many parents these days don’t walk their bellowing kids out of the situation. They just let their little hellion continue to scream damaging the eardrums of all around. We all recognize that sometimes kids will freak out and they aren’t in total control of the parents, but we’ve got a generation of parents these days that don’t seem to even try.

Especially in this day and age when parents are scared to discipline for fear of getting the cops called on them.

I don’t see why he could leave but she couldn’t. Obviously she couldn’t leave the kid, it’s her kid, but she could have left the area with the kid just as easily as he could. And since the source of the disturbance was her kid really she should have been the one out. Obviously he shouldn’t have hit the kid, or even her, but the idea that if somebody’s kid is giving you a headache with their antics in a public place you should leave is just plain silly.

We do know kids who get hungry or sleepy. We also know that it’s the parent’s job to deal with it, not ours, and when we have to hear your kid complaining we want you to do something about it. That tends to be the source of aggravation, not really the kid being loud, but the parent that seems oblivious. If the parent is at least trying we can generally live with it, but way to many parents these days are just going about their stuff “what there’s something I’m supposed to be in charge of making 100 dB noises damaging the hearing of everyone else in the store?”

And it screws things up for the good parents. We’ve gotten so used to the oblivious parents now when we hear a noisy kid we expect nothing will be done.

That is kinda funny, but of course the guy needs an asskicking anyway.

And it screws things up for the good parents.

I see. Good parents 2 year olds are never tired, hungry or thirsty. Got it
