Its an incredibly moving saga, the abduction and amazing emancipation of Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was held captive for 18 years.
The story throws the spotlight on something our post-modern culture has all but abandoned, to the detriment of our criminal justice system; that is, the existence of good and evil.
Jaycee was only 11 years old when in 1991 she was abducted near her home in South Lake Tahoe, 170 miles from Antioch, which was where Phillip Garrido lived.
Jaycee and her children, now aged 11 and 15, were kept in abysmal conditions in a hidden soundproof shed-and-tent compound in Garrido's backyard. The three spent the nearly two decades locked in a 10-foot by 10-foot shed, moved to a second shed or put in one of two tents.
Garrido was a registered sex offender, due to a 1977 conviction on charges of kidnapping and rape of a 25-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman whom he held in a small storage facility in Reno, Nevada. He was 25 years old at the time and told the victim his crimes were her fault because she was attractive, according to legal documents. He was sentenced to 50 years of hard time in Leavenworth, Kansas, and while in federal prison met his wife, Nancy, who is allegedly involved in the Dugard kidnapping.
Garrido only served 11 years of his sentence. He was granted parole in 1988.
An integral part of the development of criminal law in Western society is dependent on a defendants state of mind. The word used in legal treatises is mens rea, Latin for guilty mind, ...

People refuse to believe in Satan, people refuse to believe that there is a force of evil in the world. They wonder how anyone could be so “sick”, while marvelling at their own innate goodness, as defined by themselves.
I believe there is an extra hot place in Hell reserved for the low-lifes in our courts and parole systems that routinely let out rapists and murderers so they can rape and murder again.
Garrido only served 11 years of his sentence. He was granted parole in 1988.
Some people refuse to believe that someone who has kept another person prisoner, will not do it again if released from his own prison sentence.
Mr. Garrido should have been hung by the neck until dead, dead, dead.
You hit the nail right on the head. Evil abounds in the world but you and I (and many others) have real hope. When Jesus comes, or we go to Him, whichever comes first, we can and will forget about evil.
Until that happens we're going to have to deal with the likes of Phillip Garrido and the rest of satan's minions.
They don’t want to believe in absolute good and evil in the world because they themselves do not want to be held accountable for their sins.
I am feeling rather liberal right now so I propose we cut off his arms, legs, and penis. Prop him up against a wall with a list of his crimes posted above him and let him depend on the kindness of others for the rest of his life. I think that is fair.
That was a good bit of intuitive police work on the part of that officer. Thank God for that woman’s work in releasing Jayce and her daughters from a living hell.
I like the way you think FRiend!
You don’t want to think along those lines - that’s how evil takes hold.
I agree.
“You dont want to think along those lines - thats how evil takes hold.”
I confess to having imagined worse for him. I thought my suggestion would placate the anti-death penalty crowd.
