Click on link to watch; actually mostly audio. From 1994, Howie Carr, then with WHDH AM 850 talks with John Farrar who discovered Mary Jo Kopechne's body. He was pressured not to talk about his discoveries.
excerpt: Howie Carr: John let me just get this straight..your belief is that while Ted Kennedy was walking past all these houses back towards the "party house" where we're broadcasting from now, Mary Jo was still alive.
Farrar: Uh, that is correct.
Carr: And she would have been alive probably for about an hour, do you think.
Farrar: I think that's most reasonable--an hour if not longer, that's correct.
Carr: How fast do you think the car was going when it hit the water?
Farrar: That has been proved by several different engineers--one on Chappaquiddick, the Registrar of Motor Vehicles, uh, and others to be between 35 and 45, 35 and 40 miles an hour. However the court only accepted 20 miles an hour and destroyed the evidence which the Registrar of Motor Vehicles gave to the court stenographer to, so that they would not have to come out with an indictment of manslaughter.
Carr: So the court accepted that he was going 20 miles an hour even though all the evidence, even by the Registry of Motor Vehicles, which was controlled by a sympathetic Democrat, Richard McLaughlin indicated he was going between 35 to 45 miles an hour
Farrar: ...he finally was bullied into putting down 20 miles an hour...
Indeed. That’s the speculation, even though the official cause of death was said to be drowning.
Howie Carr’s Ted K site, incl bits on Chappaquiddick like the drawings that were mentioned.
as cradle_of_freedom posted in a sep. thread:
>>Mary Jo did not drown, instead she died of asphyxia. Her head was in an air bubble so there was some time for her to have been rescued, if Kennedy had called the police right away. We will never know if she could have been saved, but it is apparent that she was not given every opportunity possible to save her life.
How does one open a door against water pressure & then reclose it? I doubt he was in the car when it went off the bridge, he probably just waded in & got wet to make it look like he was! MURDER!
Just wish to point out whether or not she survived for a while, Kennedy had no way of knowing, so his decision to go home and to tell his cousin to go home without calling the police, was criminal and immoral. One can only assume Kennedy was drunk and that’s why he wanted to go home and walk into police headquarters the next day and calmy announce there was a dead girl in his sunken car.
Facinating isn’t it that Teddy got himself out and to the surface safely.
I recall his tv speech after this, in which he claimed to have dived twice in attempts to rescue her. Yet he and his cousin then left with no attempt to get her help.
In fact, Teddy told his cousin to go back to the party and keep his mouth shut so as not to upset anyone, then Teddy claims he dove in the water and disappeared in the dark and went home. So we are to believe the cousin saw Senator Kennedy dive in and disappear into the water, and went back and told no one, even though at that point both Mary Jo and Teddy might have been dead for all he knew.
Sure, it all makes sense.
When he went into the police station, there was no dead girl in the car.
she must have been pregnant
Even when this happened the MSM treated it as though Teddy was a victim.
Old Brimstone brand?
Possible. If it was an accident like he said, he wouldn’t have had time to get out till the car had gone in, and it looks like when it left the bridge it flipped and went in upside-down. Wonder if they had a little argument and Ted lost his boozy temper?
He probably drugged and then raped her. The Kennedy’s have a pattern of behavior there.
T’is odd, I do not recall seeing 12,000 photos of Mary Jo as a young child or litle girl on Daddy’s knee on TV when she was buried. Teddy was photographed more I’d suppose.
An air pocket would remain in the car even if she breathed whatever usable oxygen was there before it ran out. The oxygen (air) would be replaced with the CO2 she exhaled.
excellent question — the story makes no sense — if he opened the door the car would have beenfilled with water right away.
