Nebraska is gun country, the sort of place where one of the newsroom hunters sometimes brings deer jerky from a white-tail buck he shot himself to share with colleagues.
We have no problems with responsible gun ownership.
But the sight of gun-carrying citizens and protesters gathering near locations where President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak creeps us out.
Stop it.

One may have been acting as an agent provocateur to smear conservatives more than making a statement about the right to keep and bear arms.
It’s only “creepy” because the “lone gunman” has been the villain too many times in our history. One guy with a gun in the middle of a crowd of sheep could be seen as a little unnerving, at least by a diehard liberal. (Any bets that one guy was the ONLY ONE carrying? Didn’t think so.)
How about this instead — have each community form its own militia group (call them a “neighborhood watch” and nobody will raise an eyebrow) then have 250 people with guns appear at one of these town hall gatherings. Better yet, have them all carry the same model of gun and all wear the same T-shirts.
Think that might send a much clearer message?
And if the Panthers make you nervous, station six militiamen at each polling place on election day. How does THAT message grab ya?
...and Joe Biden as president...and a new National Holiday -- probably have to delete July 4 to maintain "holiday neutrality"...and everything O ever dreamed of passed into legislation within 3 months by unanimous voice vote. Say, you don't think they're planning to whack him themselves, do you?
Guns is scarewee.
Interesting side note: my son is NYPD and recently was on assignment to provide security for The One when he addressed the NAACP in NYC. The secret service would not allow ANY NYC cop to be armed...they said if any SS agent saw a gun on someone who was NOT SS, things could get ugly.
both have interviewed and expressed strict beliefs in the Constitution and in particular, the 2A, for the very reasons it was written...ie NOT duck hunting...
Note the writer lacked the guts to sign his name to the editorial.

You might be surprised at the number of women who believe in the Second Amendment. Some of us even own guns.
I’ve got another idea (to go along with not replace yours): “Stay the hell away”!
That’s fair. The sight of Obama or any of his Demowhores creeps ME out.
A little Big Red journalist? Say it isn't so.
I have more respect for the U of Nebraska than that.
Oh, they wouldn’t rename the MLK streets to BOH streets, they would designate entirely new streets as Obama Boulevards, I am sure. I’m also sure that Chris Rock’s advice about MLK would translate equally well to the new Obama streets:
“If you find yourself on Barack Obama boulevard, RUN!”
I agree with you about this. This is not a smart thing to do, even though it is a right.
Allegra: Bite me.
Ditto - in spades.
Who the heck are you, RRF, to restrict the lawful actions of your neighbors? One of Fidel's block wardens? Want to tell me what I can watch on tv, or listen to on the radio?
Bite me.
Not to worry... knowing that the next in line is Joe Biden, and if he is not able then Nancy Pelosi, Obama has to be the safest person in the USA.
I will stop displaying my second amendment rights when the government stops violating the constituion
Consider: If union folks showed up with clubs and tire irons at a protest event, and joked about beating up scabs, would you feel threatened?
Yip! Yip! Yip!
The sound of an ankle biter straw dog.
People carrying guns were not threatening anyone, so your analogy fails.
