I try to tell people, delicately and inoffensively, that public school is a form of welfare. Most of the time it turns out I wasn’t delicate and inoffensive enough. I’d have a lot more conservatives among my friends, if so many weren’t mad at me for bringing public ed into conversations about welfare moochers and lousy govt services. Even intelligent folks who prefer a good political discussion, get awfully touchy when it’s brought up, yet it’s the most influential political action most of them will ever take: consigning their child to 12 years of formative education over which they, the parents, have virtually no control or influence.

I will soon be starting my 5th year of homeschooling. It has been an incredible journey and I hope it will be for you as well.

He's also saying that public school *teachers* are killing America. This is true. These days what you need not teaching ability, but an Ed degree. In other words, math teachers know nothing about math, computer teachers know nothing about computers, science teachers know nothing about science, because what they have are Ed degrees. So they went through the Ed degree grinder and had their heads filled with cognitive psychology and other useless garbage. If you work in the cubicle next to one of these Ed degree people, don't be surprised if they ask you how to use a calculator to change a test on 60 to a test on 20.

A moron with an Ed degree is far more qualified to teach computer programming, according to the current scheme of things, than a talented computer programmer with a degree in computer science.

Congratulations! We have homeschooled for 6 years and I wouldn’t change it for the world! Get into a good group with veteran homeschool parents that can support you and help you. Talking to someone that has “been there” is a priceless resource. ENJOY!

We'll need a full blown revolution to uproot the worthless teachers and their unions.

Unions = Extortion

God bless your decision and your efforts.
Remember, you’re never alone - He’s always with you and will bless you in your efforts when you are working within His will.

I run into that too. A doctor I play poker with got mad when I pointed out that his nurse and secretary were subsidizing his lifestyle.

The classroom bureaucrats get mad when I call them bureaucrats. I once had a classroom bureaucrat argue that she was a professional rather than a bureaucrat. I asked our host for a dictionary and read her the definition. She sputtered and huffed; “the dictionary is wrong!” Everyone laughed at her. Now she and her husband don’t speak to me.

But what we are up against is the welfare mentality they can see in families where 5 and 6 generations are in government housing and getting welfare payments. In both cases they grew up seeing their parents and grandparents feeding at the public trough so they see nothing wrong with it.

It really amazes me that otherwise intelligent people refute the arguments in favor of socialized medicine then turn around and use those same arguments to justify socialized schooling, and get mad when someone points out that that’s what they are doing.

The truth offends - always.

Parents know what is going on in these schools, just like even pro-aborts know what is truly going on in abortuaries. They are only offended when you confront them with the truth.

Christians have no business sending their kids to “Canaanite” schools to sit in the seat of scoffers.

In Texas we have a new requirement to offer Bible classes in all public schools. The liberals are screaming bloody murder-LOL. The main problem I have with our local schools is that most have a model UN program which teaches them to be good little citizens of the world. The socialists just never stop.

We are working with a classical HS group and will meet with them on Fridays. They will help me with what to cover on our own the other days.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The problem is far more fundamental that merely unions. The following are problems that can NOT be solved, and this is true even if government school districts had no unions and were as small as a suburban housing subdivision:

1) All government schools teach the child to be a socialist. The very moment a child starts kindergarten he learns that the government can force his neighbor to pay for his education. If the government can force his neighbor to pay for something his parents want for free ( education) then it is a short step to demanding food, housing, medical care, transportation, clothing, disability insurance, retirement, entertainment, the arts,...etc.

2) NO government school can be religiously, culturally, or politically neutral. ALL schools must choose to teach from either a godless or God-centered worldview perspective. Neither is neutral in content or consequences. While in the past the government schools taught a generic Protestant worldview, today ALL government schools today are godless in their worldview. Even if government school districts were the size of a city block, the government would be forcing one neighbor to pay for the NON-NEUTRAL religious, cultural, and political worldview of his neighbor.

Fundamentally, all government schools are a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination.

3) ALL government schools teach children to be comfortable prisoners of the state. When in school, the government forbids free speech, free press, free assembly, and free practice of religion. In many ways, children are literally treated like prisoners! Just by being in a government school children become desensitized to and comfortable with being prisoners to a fascist tyranny.

4) All government schools in our nation teach a godless worldview. This teaches children how to live without God. It also teaches them to compartmentalize their faith if they do manage to retain their faith in God.

5) Christian teachers who haven't been fired yet, or prosecuted, are teaching children that Christians are willing to teach children how to live without God. Surely the child will eventually see the hypocrisy in this. They will learn that Christians will sell their principles for a paycheck and a pension.

6) Christian teachers who attempt to sneak in a little Christian morality into their lessons, teach children than Christians are sneaky.

Can you see now, why all government K-12 schools must be eliminated. It is not enough, by far, to simply get rid of the teachers’ unions, or the federal Department of Education.

Government schools are culturally, politically, and religiously killing our nation. It is far more than merely academics. It is impossible for any government school to be religiously neutral. The curriculum will not be neutral and neither will the consequences.

All government schools in this nation teach from a godless worldview perspective. This teaches children how to live without God. Or..If they do manage to retain their faith how to compartmentalize that faith. Doing this will have fatal cultural, political, and religious consequences for our nation.

Your phrase “to live without God” reminds me of Ecclesiastes.

Solomon laments that everything he immersed himself in in order to try to be fulfilled without God was a dismal failure,

as expected.

I start homeschooling my 6th grade son for the first time tomorrow after 6 years in the government school system.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Like Lot and his family fleeing Sodom and Gomorrah, don't look back!

You will not regret leaving the government godless cesspools of moral depravity.

The idea of trying to win any sort of a culture war while sending your children off to the enemy for indoctrination doesn’t really compute...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Research proves you right.

85% of children ( from active Christian homes) who attend government schools are inactive in their faith 2 years after graduation.

In contrast, 95% of homeschoolers remain active in their faith.

( Yes, I have links.)

Like the family of Lot who fled from Sodom and Gomorrah, we should flee with our families from the godless government schools and DO NOT LOOK BACK!

Agree 100%! Here’s a to-the-point thread(from a considerable while back) on the same topic:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/593722/posts

“The Public Schools Are Evil” by the esteemed Mr. Gatto.

Many threads are posted on this subject, but nothing ever changes for the better in the real world of public schools(apart from closing them).

Since Americans generally turn a blind eye to the depravity of the public education system, this entire matter will remain unresolved until American children refuse to attend these monstrous institutions.

A coast to coast campaign of civil disobedience by the victims of this scheme might put the fear of God into their tormentors.

Adults today seem to lack the moral discernment that their forbears possessed, so the children must save themselves.

When children, (who have committed no crime,) **rationally** refuse to being treated like prisoners in their government school, cease attending their government indoctrination camp they are pursued by armed police! They are arrested, and they and their parents are dragged before judges.

The government schools are an abomination!

The only solution is for masses of parents and children to boycott the government schools ( as you propose) and to elect representatives with enough testosterone to SHUT THEM DOWN! Permanently!
