The Senate Finance Committee will drop a controversial provision on consultations for end-of-life care from its proposed healthcare bill, its top Republican member said Thursday.
The committee, which has worked on putting together a bipartisan healthcare reform bill, will drop the controversial provision after being derided as "death panels" to encourage euthanasia by conservatives.
"On the Finance Committee, we are working very hard to avoid unintended consequences by methodically working through the complexities of all of these issues and policy options," Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said in a statement. "We dropped end-of-life provisions from consideration entirely because of the way they could be misinterpreted and implemented incorrectly."

Now as soon as they drop socialist health care I will be satisfied. Not before then.
I am impressed that Grassley is concerned with unintended consequences because that’s a big problem with this bill/bills etc.
So many of the things are so vague that even though I really doubt it is as bad in SPECIFIC points as that email litany going around would have you believe, it could one day be interpreted that way.....and that’s a big problem.
“”The bill passed by the House committees is so poorly cobbled together that it will have all kinds of unintended consequences, including making taxpayers fund health care subsidies for illegal immigrants,” Grassley said. The veteran Iowa lawmaker said the end-of-life provision in those bills would pay physicians to “advise patients about end of life care and rate physician quality of care based on the creation of and adherence to orders for end-of-life care.”
“Maybe others can defend a bill like the Pelosi bill that leaves major issues open to interpretation, but I can’t,” Grassley added.”
This is good news on the surface, however be aware that when the applicable House and Senate committees meet for ‘reconciliation’ of the final bill, there will be all kinds of chicanery and skulduggery going on, and the death panels will very likely be sneaked back in under some obtuse label with the intention of not attracting any attention.
The Republicrats in Washington have no intention of doing the will of We The People, but kudos and bravo to Sarah Palin for having more of a pair brass ones than most of those spineless liberal dipshits calling themselves ‘conservatives’, who have been AWOL in this debacle.
Yeah Mr Mitt, I mean you.
BUMP
Well we need to only gut a few of the real goodies the liberals want, like the public option and sun setting or private insurance plans. Make it so unpalatable that the far left in the house won't go for it.
Yes, I agree:
DEEP SIX this horrendous Bill in it entirety!
It’s a small victory. They dropped it for now, but don’t be surprised if they come back later with something even more ghastly.
Government’s natural inclination is to expand and control. There are bigger plans on the drawing board, I’m sure.
Was 3200 passed by a House committee?
Ok. Good. You dropped the whole “death pannel” thing. Now drop the rest of the bill and we can go home happy.
Sorry Chuck. Not enough. I want my health savings account. Keep your damned hands off my healthcare!
Because it’s better to have at least a decent bill than have it rammed through by the Dems.
I hope it still fails completely or results in a complete start over. But, I would rather have the most erroneous parts removed than have no GOP vote for it yet have the Dems pass it as they want!
So what? We don’t want government run health care no matter what. Once they get a foot in the door they will simply add all this crap back in, either by adding amendments in committee or by sneaking crap in on other bills. Don’t tamper with a good system. Leave it alone, leave us alone.
Also a big victory for Sarah, as she really exposed this by speaking out like she did recently!
Sorry I know it sounds like yeah right... but I did an exact title search before posting and got nothing. Trust me when I do a search and find the article I am happy because it is a pain to post an article.
BUMP~!
It’s a start. But only a start. No end zone dances yet, Grassley....
This will be used to garner support, even though the other egregious things in the bill remain.
See? It’s safe now! It’s good! A Republican cleaned it up, it’s bipartisan!
Oh yeah... it is a victory for Palin.
The question will be the language that replaces and/or any other language in the bill that can eventually get them to the same point.
