"We are a nation built on the strength of individual initiative. But there are certain things that we can't do on our own. There are certain things that only a government can do. And one of those things is ensuring that the foods we eat …are safe and don't cause us harm."

America enjoys the world’s safest, highest quality, most abundant, diverse and affordable food supply.

This situation is about to change with the Food Safety Enhancement Act (H.R. 2749) which was scheduled for consideration this week under suspension of the standard rules governing congressional legislation.

The Ranking Member of the House Agricultural Committee urged his colleagues not to rush The Food Safety Enhancement Act (H.R. 2749) through Congress. The move to suspend the rules was defeated by two votes.

The suspension would mean limited debate of 20 minutes and no opportunity to offer amendments. Congressman Frank Lucas (R-Oklahoma) is ringing an alarm. He says the proposed legislation is the result of a flawed and incomplete process that would lead to huge regulatory burdens that will force the majority of America’s farmers and ranchers out of business without contributing much, if anything, to the goal of safer food.

Though the rules have not been suspended, the legislation is still expected to meet with House approval.

Few on Capitol Hill are heeding Congressman Lucas’s warning.

As proposed by Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Los Angeles, H. R. 2749 will grant the Food and Drug Administration the power to regulate all farms and farm produce

Excellent analysis !

What or whom will the Government Farms use for labor? Convicts? Forced labor for debtors? “Vocational Re-Training” for those who have lost their jobs due to Government corruption?

“Does anyone know if this applies to family farms or only to farms that sell to the general public.”

As an example, laws mandating the tagging of livestock was to be voluntary, and confined to Cows and Poultry....today they demand the tagging of everything.

The video at the bottom of the article creeps me out. I have seen it before but now I can imagine it really happening.

They'll probably do career-suitability exams in junior high. Test results will decide if someone goes to a college prep school or a vocational school for high school. Too much intelligence and ability for critical thinking will get you classified as a "Farm hand".

We don’t need no stinkin’ college graduates!

Why waste money?

We can import all the degrees we need from Pakistan, Mexico, Liberia, China etc.

(Ain’t we clever? Oracle, Intel & Microsoft are already doing this!)

I’m using yard space to grow my own vegetables. Career government employees can shove it.

They can ‘demand’ all they want.

This is what I just sent.

I am writing to ask you to vote against H.R. 2749.

I believe it will become a huge burden to farmers. I don’t believe that it is very well written and so many things will be left to some bureacrat’s opinion.

Farmers in your district are holding on by the skin of their teeth and one more road block in the way might mean the extinction of agriculture in your district.

The fact that there are no longer government reserves means that the United States is no longer food secure. A lot of people don’t seem to think that food security is important but I dare them to say that when they are starving. It won’t matter how good our military defenses are if the country can’t feed itself and is at the mercy of the world.

The whole process of the bill is flawed and incomplete and would encumber farmers with so many regulations that the majority of us will be forced to go out of business. All this for a specious bill written by people who have never set foot on a farm and wouldn’t know corn from wheat.

Another gift from Waxman... That boy is such a POS. His agenda seems to be turning the remainder of the US into an overtaxed, overburdened cesspool like his home state.

“Vocational Re-Training” for those who have lost their jobs due to Government corruption?

After a federal judge stopped irrigation in a large section of the San Joaquin Valley, thousands are out of work and the farmers will likely go broke. I have wondered if the plan is for the government to take over the land, establish government farms to "feed the hungry" and provide jobs to the unemployed. After all, the federal judge could reverse his/her decision and allow water from the Sacramento River to again be diverted for irrigation.

I don't blame you. Those chips are rumored to cause cancer in animals. I just spent a hour researching it, but there is a lot of conflicting info on the web.

I won't allow any of my animals to be chipped

We are all cattle now!

Did you know that Saint Louis based Somark Innovations successfully tested an “RFID tattoo” on cows and rats? Yes indeed, tattoo, not the ol’ RFID chip found in passports, dogs, and Dutch VIP clubbers. Somark’s system uses an array of needles to inject a passive RFID ink which can be read through the hair on your choice of beast. The ink can be either invisible or colored but Somark is keeping mum as to its exact contents. They only say that it doesn’t contain any metals and is 100% biocompatible and chemically inert. The tattoo can be applied in 5 to 10 seconds with no shaving involved and can be read from up to 4 feet away — the bigger the tattoo, the more information stored. Best of it all, it’s apparently safe for humans to ingest allowing the FDA to track back Mad Cow Disease, e-coli outbreaks, and Soylent Green.

Don’t worry, they can’t track you just as long as you chew your food like mama taught. However, with “military personnel” listed as Somark’s “secondary target market,” well, it’s just a matter of time before we’re all cattle now isn’t it.

Back in the 40s when we ate in the back yard during the summer I used to spray DDT before dinner and I loved to breath it, it smelled so good!

It wouldn't have been banned if it hadn't been for the campain against it by that communist Eddie Albert of the Center for Democratic Institutions in Santa Barbara who falsely claimed it was killing the pelicans.
