JERUSALEM Marking the saddest day on the Jewish calendar, about a thousand Jewish protesters today read the biblical book of Lamentations in front of the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem to protest against the Obama administration's demand to freeze Jewish construction in eastern sections of the city.
Tonight marks the fasting day of Tisha B'Av, or the 9th day of the Hebrew month of Av. It commemorates a series of tragedies that befell the Jewish people all on the same day, most significantly the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem, which occurred about 656 years apart on the same day. Jewish tradition calls for the reading of Lamentations.

(9th of Ave fasting is awful!)
Thank you for the post, Nachum. I’m always interested in learning about important days to the Jewish people. I never knew that this day contained so much sorrow from multiple incidents through history. It’s very sad.
It always makes me proud when they stand strong. Here is a quote from the article:
“If Obama is ready to sacrifice Israel for his interests in the Muslim world, we are here to tell him this is against our interests. We will not commit suicide to please Obama.”
The Romans wiped out a building of Jewish worship. Obama seems not to care if a whole Jewish country gets wiped out.
And both temple destructions happened on the same calendar date. Have to wonder if the second time around, this timing was planned by the Romans to rub the Jews’ nose in it.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.
..................
We were also expelled from Spain in 1492 on this date (really tomorrow; starting this evening).
I suspect Spain chose the day on purpose, if the Romans did not.
I HOPE YOU MEAN VERSA VICE!
May Israel's joy be turned to mourning
I HOPE YOU MEAN VERSA VICE!
Oh my goodness . . . I most certainly do!
I apologize to all. Evidently my brain is a bit dyslexic.
It is the thought that counts. Thanks :)
I knew what you meant : )
Thank you!
