Take that, "birthers," said Eric Kleefeld in Talking Points Memo. The House of Representatives has just passed a bill recognizing the 50th anniversary of Hawaii's statehood and noting the state as President Obama's birthplace. The 378-0 vote was a "none-too-subtle jab at the Birthers"—who claim Obama wasn't really born in the U.S. and therefore isn't eligible to be president. And the real insult came when Rep. Bill Posey, sponsor of the "infamous Birther Bill," and other Republican sympathizers cast their votes for the language recognizing Obama as a natural-born citizen.
It's true that "a few misguided souls among the Right" have indulged this birther "foolishness," said National Review in an editorial, but "the birth-certificate business is not a uniquely conservative phenomenon." The claim that Obama was born in Kenya appears to have originated with a pro-Hillary Clinton blog during the presidential primaries. "Barack Obama may prefer European-style socialized health care," but "he was born in the U.S.A."
Sympathetic House Republicans and the National Review aren't the only conservatives abandoning the nutty birthers, said Alex Koppelman in Salon. Fox News' Bill O'Reilly has slammed birthers (watch), and even the infamous rightwing pundit Ann Coulter has withheld her support (watch). When even "some of the conservative movement's most notorious and recognizable media personalities" are denouncing these loonies, it must be getting pretty lonely on "the Birther crazy train."
Without positive evidence, this issue is becoming poisonous.
This is one of the problems with your position - it will gain no traction on its own merits, because people can’t be made to care that it is relevant independent of politics.
To most people, in itself the argument is plain pettifogging, to put it bluntly.
It is appealing to some partisans of our side because it is a means to attack one of our enemies. A mistaken idea in their case, because it is very likely to backfire.
On the other hand, the pure legalist is almost by definition an isolated figure. The mass of all people are much messier thinkers. But that is human nature.
Congressman Neil Abercrombie is still trolling for ADDITIONAL cash from Obama. Neil added the last sentence of this Res re Obama born in HI (and he sure hopes it’s true).
Note, Neil states that attended college with Obama’s alleged father, Obama Sr. (drinking pals, etc., or so he has said), but even he cannot attest to his Obama Jr’s birth(?).
This Res was merely symbolic, but offered with the HOPE that some will unknowingly believe it’s factual. No objection b/c it carries no weight, non-binding and has no authority - just press (which they need).

Delivering President Obama’s message

Neil read, what is believed to be, one of the first official messages of congratulations from President Barack Obama, in which he acknowledged the 100th anniversary for pediatric care at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children.
The President’s message recognizes the center’s service to generations with distinction: 62,000 kids per year, including the President himself. Settling the question once and for all, he states that Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children “is the place of my birth. Hawaii has always been home to me.” More than 700 community leaders and supporters gathered at the Hawaii Convention Center Saturday (1/24/09) to celebrate the anniversary.

Abercrombie is disparate to assist Obama regaring his BC problems and he’s bungled every attempt. For example, see WND.com for the letter allegedly from Obama to Kapiolani Med Center, the hospital of Obama’s “reported” birth. Interestingly, the White House will still not confirm that this letter was sent or is authentic. Why?
This Res only focuses more attention to the open questions; who is Obama? is he telling the truth? why has he not released his BC and other basic documents? - These are still pending questions.
Obama does not want his original BC published, but may we ask WHY? Obama’s has stonewalled the pubic on this question for two years now, and so we are left to speculate and investigate. Why?
Fact two; Obama himself states his father was never a US citizen, and thus BHO jr. was born (at a minimum), with Dual citizenship, which bars him from natural-born citizenship status, which is “required” to run and hold the Pres Ofc.
Does Obama really believe that he is ABOVE THE LAW?
Does Obama have any MORAL, ETHICAL OR LEGAL DUTY OR OBLIGATIONS to voluntarily provide the American pubic with the truth regarding these pending questions? Or, does he insist that we continue to litigate, petition, request, demand and speculate?
Obama’s stonewalling of these valid and important questions is unprecedented.
Interesting. I would think what held at the time would count, but some of these laws did act retroactively so that there was uniformity of application.

There are a few people interested in the question, but it has no particular traction among the public.
It is going to go the same course as Kennedy assassination theories, for better or worse. There will always be aficionados. But this is a big country with room for a lot of ideas.
Well, yes, unless it differs materially from the one previously released by the Obama campaign. If it says the birth was unattended in a mango grove and the father is "unknown" we're gonna be back at the starting line.
It'll depend on what Grandma Whitey put on the CnOLB application.

That's my take too.
The "TELL" on this? Press Secty Gibbs taking questions from WND reporter. WND is wasting time asking about this instead of about the culture of corruption that eg Michelle Malkin has documented - firing IGs, Chicago pals in the WH, etc. LOTS of stuff to go after Obama on. If WND wanted to open up on those Qs, Gibbs wouldnt touch him with a 10 foot pole.

IMO what's happening is these Republicans know just like the Dems know that Bambi is not natural born, but they did nothing about it when they had the opportunity - before the election and certifying the election when they should have issued a protest. They failed. Now they are in 'cover our own butts mode". Of that I'm convinced.
Now that the crap is about to hit the fan, its ever so much easier to just brand the 'birthers' as kooks and cranks then have to answer why they did absolutely nothing to protect the constitution.
Which is why I've said that when the truth is revealed, ALL of Congress should go down with Obama - ALL OF THEM. AND THE MEDIA PRESSTITUTES AS WELL.

Well, you deserved it. A guy born on territory under US control at a US military base to two US citizens is not a natural-born citizen, when that precise situation was one that was given birthright citizen status since 1795 acc. to US law ... and you think he wasnt eligible?!?

Unfortunately such conspiracy theories add some ‘specialness’ about him that shouldnt exist.
Obama is a boring speaker, dull thinker and a mediocre President, There is NOTHING special about him except the extraordinary boost this affirmative action President got to get into the White House. His birth in Honolulu is almost certain fact and a mundane one.

Doubtless because there is something embarassing there. My guess is that Obama Sr. is not listed as the father, another is named. Which would be pretty amusing after all his autobiographies. But fairs fair, he has the right to keep his family skeletons in the closet.

“Natural born” for the purposes of the constitutional test has never been defined. At best Congress would have to write a law or a court would have to decide such a case. You cannot assume your own definition.

* Noelani Elementary School records, where Barack Obama attended kindergarten (according to the Hawaii Department of Education, students must submit a birth certificate to register — but parents may bring a passport or student visa if the child is from a foreign country)
* Complete files and schedules of his years as an Illinois state senator from 1997 to 2004
* Obama’s client list from during his time in private practice with the Chicago law firm of Davis, Miner, Barnhill and Gallard
* Illinois State Bar Association records
* Baptism records
* Obama/Dunham marriage license
* Obama/Dunham divorce documents
* Soetoro/Dunham marriage license
* Soetero/Dunham Adoption records
