WASHINGTON – A bipartisan group of senators is closing in on a health care compromise that omits key Democratic priorities but seeks to hold down costs, as lawmakers on both sides of the Capitol labor to deliver sweeping health legislation to President Barack Obama.

Short excerpt due to AP sourcing.

This story just broke at approx 3:20AM EDT. When you have secret meetings and late night/early morning press releases, I don't think that says much about the popularity of the plan.

They're desperately trying to get something in under the gun before the Reps go home to face their constituents.

NO. I don’t want it. NO government run healthcare. The frickin’ republicans who go for this crap should all be voted out immediately if not sooner(ok, so we have to wait until 2010).

It’s infuriating. We sit here powerless, while they wheel and deal behind the scenes, adding and deleting features.

It depends on whether the Senators in question are from these states:

Arizona, Colorado, New Jersey, North Dakota, Alaska, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, Wisconsin, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, California

These are the states that allow the recall of Senators. It's likely they're from ones that do not.

Why do the Republican Senators desperately want to get to “yes?” Who are they working for? They have lost sight that they are representatives of the people and through back room deals, literally in the dark of night, seek to become our rulers.

This could easily be dem/MSM spin intended to pressure the Repubs in this group to agree to a deal as quickly as possible.

Whether this contains "key provisions" desired by the Obama administration, or not, this cannot go through. Once done, healthcare cannot be undone. There are many who freely admit, Obama included, universal single-payer healthcare is their ultimate goal. Any bill passed would be the equivalent of having a crack in the dam. After that, the flood is inevitable.

Obama's own words during a 2003 speech to the AFL-CIO:

"I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its gross national product on health care, cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And that's what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out. A single-payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. That's what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we've got to take back the White House, we've got to take back the Senate, and we've got to take back the House."

The amusing thing is that they seem to think if they can get it passed before they go home to their districts, they will avoid the wrath of their constituents. If they think we’re mad now, just wait until our so-called representatives ram this ObamaScare down our throats.

Let me guess “Gang of ____” will make the deal possible and will be briefly adored by MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, NYT as “courageous”.

Confederacy of Dunces!

TARP should have taught them: Hussein will take whatever power they give him and do what he wants to do anyway.

This idea of health care reform, unless it is REMOVING GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT, will be abused.

I think you're right, these Benedicts want to get something done so if they go home the "deal will be done" and they'll try to talk to the constituents about something else.

I'm bettin' it is the same old RINOs, too, isn't it?
