Many people hoped that the election of a black President of the United States would mark our entering a "post-racial" era, when we could finally put some ugly aspects of our history behind us.
That is quite understandable. But it takes two to tango. Those of us who want to see racism on its way out need to realize that others benefit greatly from crying racism. They benefit politically, financially, and socially. Barack Obama has been allied with such people for decades. He found it expedient to appeal to a wider electorate as a post-racial candidate, just as he has found it expedient to say a lot of other popular things about campaign finance, about transparency in government, about not rushing legislation through Congress without having it first posted on the Internet long enough to be studied all of which turned to be the direct opposite of what he actually did after getting elected.
Those who were shocked at President Obama's cheap shot at the Cambridge police for being "stupid" in arresting Henry Louis Gates must have been among those who let their wishes prevail over the obvious implications of Obama's 20 years of association with the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Anyone who can believe that Obama did not understand what the racist rants of Jeremiah Wright meant can believe anything.
With race as with campaign finance, transparency and the rest Barack Obama knows what the public wants to hear and that is what he has said. But his policies as president have been the opposite of his rhetoric, with race as with other issues.
As a state senator in Illinois, Obama pushed the "racial profiling" issue, so it is hardly surprising that he jumped to the conclusion that a policeman was racial profiling...

Yes, that is the question. I can see many worshipping them that want something for nothing but why the educated and the media prop them up is a mystery to me unless they feel they can ride the band wagon with them, I sure don’t know the answers.
Thomas Sowell is a national treasure except to the race hustlers whether they reside at 1600 Pennsylvania or elsewhere.
“Fitzgerald”
: )
Thanks for the ping jaz, and thanks once again Dr. Sowell for your thoughts on the important matters of today. As usual you sir are spot on.
Yeah, Mark Levin calls him Millhouse, he has some intelligent reason dating back to the Nixon Era.
I just like Fitzgerald for no other reason than it is funny.
Jacksons and Sharpton are shakedown con men. Gates makes a living teaching and speaking evil of whites. BO fires, intimidates, condescends and manipulates white folk - that’s his shakedown method. Rev.Wright makes a living off of a hate whitey church.
Booker T was a visionary.
Then we have Thomas Sowell - an intellect and true gentleman in every way.
I don't suppose our Community Organizer In Chief will be inviting the good Dr. Sowell to the White House for a beer anytime soon....
ROFLOL!!
That’s great, Smooth. The first thing that came to mind was a diamond and a lump of coal, you figure which is which. LOL!
Don’t forget that his main adviser is Michelle Obama.
Those of us who want to see racism on its way out need to realize that others benefit greatly from crying racism. They benefit politically, financially, and socially.

The way Attorney General Holder has refused to prosecute young black thugs who gathered at a voting site with menacing clubs, in blatant violation of federal laws against intimidating voters, speaks louder than any words from him or his president.
Barack Obamas mask slipped for a moment last week but he quickly recovered, with the help of the media. But we should never forget what we saw.
One resigned before impeachment.
The current one will have to be removed as well.
That's an excellent comparison!
I can't help but imagine that Dr. Sowell is disappointed with the American voters who were so easily conned by Lumpy.
Thomas Sowell, a welcome, enlightened voice in the wilderness
Sowell’s columns aren’t always the best, but they are almost always excellent. You could say the average Sowell column is better than the average column of any other columnist out there, bar none. God grant him more decades of health and good work!
Not if he was a good UT.
A good UT can get the "folks" to follow him, no matter what. Hmmm............
His typical white grandmother remark showed me that he long ago chose which race that he would identify with.
Instead of recognizing the strengths and weakness of his parents racial makeup he chose to be black and apologize for his white half.
The vested interest that those self-appointed black leaders is great. They couldn’t live in mansions or have body guards if they made the black community realize that America gives you a chance, what you do with it is totally up to you. Should racial quotas apply to minorites? If 30% of blacks and 10% of whites commit crimes should we be able to arrest only 10% of blacks? What if those blacks are first generation Africans? Should they be arrested at a higher or lower rate? What about other minorities?
Each time you pass laws based on special groups, instead of individual rights you will have racial/sexual tensions.
Why shouldn’t I be able to tell a gay person I think their lifestyle is destructive? What part of freedom of speech don’t they understand? The constitution prevents the government from treating individuals differently based on group affiliations, it doesn’t prevent individuals from doing so.
From observation, it’s obvious that 0bama chose to hate his white heritage in order to alleviate his confusion in the environments he was in. Being raised and educated around hate-whitey radicals, he had to fully denounce his white heritage in order to get his “creds” out of fear of being socially ostracized. Social ostracization is what led Colon Powell to choose his skin color over ideology.
You're absolutely right, he started warning people of Obama's lack of character long before even the primary. I have a list of 43 columns from before and after the general election that are partially or wholly about Obama's shortcomings starting in March of 2007, unfortunately there were not enough people that heeded those warnings.
As long as Sowell is allowed to write and express his opinions, we’ll be safe. If they stop him, it’s over.
