Detroit on the Brink: what 50 straight years of Democrat rule has done to a once great city
The Collins Report ^ | July 22, 2009 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

Posted on 07/22/2009 6:04:10 AM PDT by jmaroneps37

Detroit’s death spiral began with Coleman Young’s failed administration.

From 1974 until he left in 1994 Detroit became the quintessential liberal Democrat city. It offered nothing but high crime and low prospects and accelerated White middle class flight.

When the under skilled and overmatched Kwame Kilpatrick was carted off to prison the Motor City virtually ceased to exist. Now after 50 years of inept Democrat political hack administrations Detroit is among the worst places in live in America.

For the past three years FBI statistics have shown Detroit is the murder capital of the nation. Per capita it is more dangerous than Baghdad. Even the outgoing fired Police Chief went home to find his house ransacked by burglars. There are neighborhoods in the city so desolate “the police haven’t patrolled [them] in years.”

The situation in the city they call “Motown” is such that a huge section has been described as “30 square blocks of urban prairie.”

Detroit’s poor condition and decimation is hard to imagine.

These facts paint the picture of what 50 years of Democrats has brought

There are over 16, 000 foreclosed homes in the city, many of which have been taken over by squatters much as could be expected in the old West’s ghost towns.

In January Detroit’s unemployment hit 22.2%!

Even before the full destructive force of Barack Obama’s Marxist policies have been felt, a Detroit real estate agent reported selling a house for a single dollar. He had at least four more $1.00 homes, 1228 houses for sale at under $10,000 and 209 of them under $1,000!

The median selling price of a house in Detroit has tumbled from $66,000 to $5,800 since 2002.

Fifty years of swallowing Democrat lies has gotten Detroiters ever increasing misery. Now they must take responsibility for their votes.

.......a Detroit real estate agent reported selling a house for a single dollar........

Did he charge a fee for his work? A 5% commission wouldn’t have bought his paper for the transaction.

I guess the closing costs were astronomical

But...but...but......Democrats are for the working man!

That is only if they are working for the government.

LOL.
I watch that show every now and then, but I didn’t see Detroit.

Prolly a good financial move, since Discovery didn’t need special effects.

That might be my late uncle’s place. The last of my dad’s side of the family left Detroit after the riots in ‘68.

Robocop was filmed in Dallas.

Believe it or not, they couldn’t film in Detroit because it was TOO shitty.

Amazing.

This assessment of Detroit is pretty close. I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit and often asked my dad to take me downtown to Detroit Tigers games at the old Tiger Stadium. He would only take me on Saturdays (Sundays we went to church and M-F he worked) and it had to be a day game. He wanted to get the heck out of town before it was dark.

They showed the old Packard plant with trees growing out of the floors and on the roof. Funny thing is that the packard plant has burned down since the show was filmed. Firefighters didn’t even put out the fire, they just kept it from spreading.

Take a virtual tour (which is close enough for me, thank you very much). Amazing to see city blocks with a few row houses still standing next to one another and the rest gone.

What a silly headline, what is “on the brink” about Detroit???

It tipped over the edge a good while back!

This article misses the whole point. The electorate wanted them in power and voted that way. Yes, the actual destruction was performed by the dems but they didn’t come to power w/o the direct help of Detroit’s electorate. They bear the lions share of blame for the mess.

You left out Columbus, OH under donk mayor Coleman /spit. The arena district downtown is strong because of a massive police and security (off duty police) presence, and the Short North isn’t too bad, but the rest of the city is rotting.

Even if it did, such a candidate would go nowhere. Most of the people left in places like Detroit will only vote for candidates who will give them the most money. Conservatives need not apply.

Well that certainly summarizes the elitist mindset that the GOP employs to justify abandonment of this constituency. But in the long run, it makes you wonder how they expect to get elected if they have such little faith in the message of conservative principles and ideals.

This reminds me of “Escape From New York”, where New York City has been completely given over to criminal gangs.

At what point does a city get so bad that the National Guard or US Army moves in, against the wishes of the people running the city, to restore law and order?
