Go `Birthers' go! (MSM starting to make arguments to cover Obama even if born in Kenya!)
Chicago Tribune ^

Posted on 07/21/2009 6:32:52 PM PDT by pissant

The increasingly popular term for them is "Birthers" -- the indignant, frantic, seething fringe Republicans who are persuaded that there is strong doubt about where President Barack Obama was born and, therefore, strong doubt about the legitimacy of his presidency.

(snip)

Even assuming Obama was born in Kenya despite the considerable evidence that he was born in Hawaii, that five-year provision in the law was intended, pretty clearly, to prevent a person from claiming U.S. citizenship when he was born in another country to parents who were long-time residents of that country, simply on the grounds that one of his parents was still, technically a U.S. citizen.

Say "Jim" is born in the U.S., lives here until he's 11, moves with his parents to Germany, comes of age there, marries a German woman and, when he's 25, has a child. As a matter of national policy and common sense, we don't want Jim's child to be able to claim automatic U.S. citizenship -- he is born in Germany to long-time residents of Germany. Declaring him a U.S. citizen is fundamentally absurd.

The thinking behind the law seems to be that if Jim spent at least five of his 10 years after age 14 in the U.S. before moving to Germany, he has been sufficiently "Americanized" that his children shall be considered U.S. citizens.

It's fairly clear to me and, should push come to shove, will be fairly clear to the courts and to Congress, that the law was not intended to be a "gotcha!" moment used to deny citizenship to the children of life-long U.S. citizens in their late teens who happen to be out of the country when they give birth.

What if "Jim" was born in the least American of the 50 states (Hawaii) and spent his formative years in Indonesia? "Jim" isn't likely to be very "Americanized", is he?

I doubt Joe Biden would have nominated somebody so stupid as Sotomayor. While Biden would not make a great Prez, he would be at least a tad better than the big O.

“Aw, whats a little technicality...its just the US Constitution. We can get around that with a retroactive law...”

There should be no argument about this. The Constitution is very clear. No one but a Natural Born citizen can hold the office. The real issue is that there is no clear process for vetting the candidates to assure only Constitutionally qualified persons can be elected.
All states should have a process in place to require proper documentation for candidates.
Many years ago, when I first ran for public office, I was only required to affirm to the Board of Elections that I was qualified to hold the office. Pretty lame, IMO.

I don't understand why 0bama simply doesn't make his birth certificate an open record.

'Cause he can't.

This article, like the one last week at salon.com (I think?) is the clearest indication to me that the BC issue is real.

Eric Zorn is a liberal hack.

Coincidentally, I got a call yesterday from the Chicago Tribune. They are in bankruptcy and darn near giving the paper away now.

They said, “Let us deliver the paper to you on Sunday for a few weeks and let you see how it has changed.” Wow. I told them that since their election coverage was biased and they endorsed the occupant , I did not want to give them a dime but if they wanted to put a paper in my driveway, I might look at it...telemarketer asked when last time I read a Tribune was. Isaid oh back in November when I quit. I told him I had been a subscriber for approx. 25 years. ZORN and his ilk are the reason I quit. Just a branch of the Whitehouse and not objective reporting. Sad. They USED to be a decent paper & I miss getting a Sunday paper.

I don't understand why 0bama simply doesn't make his birth certificate an open record. It would destroy the GOP at this point and buy him significant political capital.

The only thing that will destroy the GOP is their own inertia and inability to stand for anything.
The Birth Certificate issue is a simple question.
The fact that it needs to be asked is insulting to us as a nation.
The fellow at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue works for us. The requirements are remarkably few.
Show us the Birth Certificate.

Right now Omoslem is crapping his burka.

What’ll Americans do with that moslem if it’s discovered he’s NOT a natural-born citizen?

It ain’t gonna be pretty.

Who from the GOP has had the nuts to call this out? I’m sorry I don’t see it. It’s not like they’re all demanding to see this thing.
If anything I’ve always thought this might be a trap for talk radio, and nobody has really bitten, except maybe Savage.

And IF the head of the Executive Branch is guilty of lying over the basics ('where he was born') - he can be expected to lie about anything and to consider himself above any law.

Now for the sobering fact.....

This man can wake up tomorrow and commit us to a war on a sovereign nation or allow the terrorist to do their worst just so he can distract us and to maintain and tighten his grip on power.

This man is a menace to our contry and our safety and needs to be replaced with Biden NOW!
