He’s no Jim Eason but he hits the spot, considering the market he started in.

RE: The guy is is more anti-Palin than David Letterman

You are correct sort of.. vis-à-vis political matters? Yes so long as you understand that Savage preferred neither candidate but he did support McCain over Obama.

He caught hell when he stepped over the line attacking Palin. Many of us were ready to say good bye, Michael!

He dares not go there again. He can object to her, he can criticize her but he cannot go anywhere near his repugnant habit of name calling.

Nor would we tolerate him straying into the "white trash" territory.

The prospect of losing listeners however will not prevent him from exploding sometime in the future.

I have a dial-up so I did not attempt to access the link. I do recall Dr. Savage's several mentions of Gov. Palin including his vehement condemnation of Letterman and his remarks about the governor and her family.

I never missed a minute of his shows when they were local (KSFO). I started listening shortly after he went on the air at KSFO.

There was no name-calling of conservative competitors though he did keep his distance from fellow local hosts at KSFO. He was brand new to being part of the media world. I always figured he kept his distance mainly because of the hostility of sister station KGO's liberal hosts.

I still tune in everyday but turn the dial to Mark Levin rather listen to recordings (all three hours or just the daily third hour).

RE: Jim Eason

When Eason switched from KGO to KSFO there erupted a big dispute between him and Savage.

If I recall correctly it started over a dispute between Savage and Eason's daughter working at KGO'KSFO.

I always figured that had something to do with Eason's retirement.

The above is what I remember but it was a relatively long time ago.

That is an excellent characterization. I might add well educated, cultured, sophisticated Loud Mouth at the end of the bar.

I am an expert radio listener! 24/7 for years and years starting in the 1940s.

Though I interrupted my training because I had to work, then I resumed my training a few years ago.

I will say this about Savage and Mark Levin:

I like 'em both but..

Complaining everyday that others steal their intellectual property IS BORING!

BESIDES BOTH MEN STOLE JOE PYNE'S ACT!

So there! but keep up the good work, patriots!

Although I'm only a marginal listener of Savage, I do concede that he provides a useful niche in talk radio.

I like him because libtards hate him. That’s enough reason right there.

Throw in good ideas and a willingness to address current events in a blunt way and you have a winner. I remember saying we should leaflet Falluja, givw them 48 hours or so then carpet bomb the city. Gotta love that. Ted Nugent would like it too.

One point against him is his wont to react negatively to callers that are agreeing with him.

I agree with Savage, mostly, but wish he took his meds more often.

A correction..

I used the word "act" in reply #27. None of the three men ever engaged in acting. A better word would be "mimic (resemble closely);" to wit,

BESIDES BOTH MEN MIMIC JOE PYNE!

I agree with you about how he treats friendly callers. Over the years, I’ve listened to him diss more than a few.

Sometimes I think his dissing of friendly callers is because he looks down his nose at them as being not as intelligent as he is.

I wasn’t sure who Joe Pyne was, had to look him up. Looks like he came from the same era as Bob Grant. I’ve always thought that a lot was stolen from him.

That being said, imitation is a sincere form of flattery.

I don’t listen to Savage much. Levin is in my drive time and I enjoy the history dispensed between the rants.

And I couldn’t agree more...I hope they keep up using their voices as a force for this country!

I recall Bob Grant telling how he got started.

Unless I am misremembering he had to replace Joe Pyne who had been dropped overnight at WOR owing to the left wing hysteria following the JFK assassination.

I remember that the left tried hard to blame the emerging modern conservative movement's criticism of JFK for Oswald's actions. Pyne was on a few hundred stations coast-to-coast.

He was forced off the air and I've read that some stations continued his show with recordings of past shows.

I did not know Pyne from his very popular radio show. I did like his TV show.

I already had radio favorites at the time.

BTW, the NY Times columnist and the dean of journalism of the day, James "Scotty" Reston lead the charge against the "hateful, violent" conservatives -- all the while real newspapers published stories of Oswald's communist connections. Nothing's changed.

I remember a time he was ranting and raving against Bush, saying he should be impeached. A few weeks later I tune him in again and he's calling Bush one of the greatest Presidents ever. Do his regular listeners even notice these shifts? Do they care that he hates all other conservative talk show host, and has demeaning nicknames for each of them? And what about the times he has said he would never vote for someone who would go on Rush's show, or Hannitys, but not his.

Thank you for this informative post. I love history.

I heard Grant sub last year for Levin and looked up his history. Egos being what they are..there was no mention of Joe Pyne. But when I get some time I may have to go back and see who they stole from. It will be interesting.

You know, I think our “media” of the day has never been doing their jobs properly. It's not a new thing. The NY Times maybe one of the worst.

I read that an editor of the Chicago Sun-Times or Tribune (can't remember the exact name of the defunct publication at this moment) reported that the US had busted the Japanese “code” after the battle of Midway because he had an ax to grind with FDR. Endangered many of our guys.

This betrayal evidently predates Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson (random names). Very sad.

There’s old fashioned jealousy of Savage’s ability to be cleve, quick and candid. He’s everyman. A guy who loves America and apprecates and savors the public education he got right through college in New York City. The vile injustice of Britain banning a man who is a product of and admirer of freedom is beyond words.

It’s a disgrace that other people in the public eye, including other talk show hosts, have cowardly been silent at this first Marxist salvo against talk radio. That Obama is letter him swing is not surprising. The American people are on their way to knowing the extent of Obama’s agenda to eviscerate the U.S.

I wish the talk show hosts didn’t engage in on air rivalry with each other. Thank God for them all. They’re all terrifically talented in sweatening history and common sense with some drama and entertainment.

Michael Weiner(sorry,Savage)has a habit of trying to raise money from listeners for his fights with CAIR and the UK Home Office. What gall!!He hawks his books and I’m sure he rakes in a big paycheck and here he is panhandling. He’s a cheapskate.
Sometimes he is right on the money, but I can’t listen to him because he’s basically obnoxious and has avery annoying voice.Ever hear him say “twelve’?He says “chwelve”-drives me insane.Screw him -there is much better talk radio locally where I live.
