God put Jupiter there for this very purpose.
Whether we observe this protection is irrelevant.
I imagine there are quite a few other protective measures in place that we have no clue about,
but when we find them, scientists will say “oh, how lucky we are”.

Just what I was going to say. Jupiter is our Solar System’s great protector. It has been sucking up junk since it became a planet.

I tend to believe that as well. We live in a comparatively safe part of the solar system. There's a lot of dangerous things flying around out there - we should be thankful for planets like Jupiter to take the hits for us.
