Ron Paul attacks Sarah Palin as 'country club' Republican
American Thinker ^ | 7/18/2009 | Thomas Lifson

What to make of Ron Paul? The word erratic comes to mind. On domestic spending, he is a righteous guardian of small government, while on foreign affairs he is a dangerous isolationist who believes the world will leave us alone if we just tend to our own knitting. And as far as Sarah Palin and her supporters go, he is a space cadet, apparently.

An interview with Politico published today contains this startling assertion from Paul:

'As for soon-to-be departing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Paul dismisses her supporters as "more establishment, conventional Country-Club type of Republicans."'

This is odd indeed, detached from reality as it is. Sarah Palin is about as far from a country club Republican as one can find. And Texas sources indicate:

And if you were to check the membership rolls of the Lake Jackson Country Club here in Texas, I'd bet real money that you would find the names of Ron Paul and his wife Carol listed as lifetime members.

The assertion of The Pauls belonging to this country club is supported by other bloggers as well. Representative Paul (also an OB/GYN, by the way) should address the question of his alleged country club membership, if he is going to throw around this label.

Could it be that Ron Paul is jealous of Sarah Palin's popular support?

Most of Palin's supporters are, indeed, the very people who supported Paul.

Nope. If that would be true, Paul would have been the 2008 GOP candidate.

“Is everyone jealous of Sarah? I don’t think that is true. I think there are people who really don’t like her period. I don’t understand it but not everyone likes everyone. Are we all jealous of Obama????? Is that why we don’t like him?????”

Never bring good sense to an argument

Yet another reason I won’t be supporting his son here in KY’s Senate race. One Paul as a legislator is one too many for the country.

Ron, the difference between a winner and a loser, is that a winner knows how to win.

"Paul blazed the trail for Palin and was even praised by Palin herself. How would he be threatened by her? Most of Palin's supporters are, indeed, the very people who supported Paul."
What alternate universe are you from? Go back and look at the Ron Paul Blogers and the Ron Paul forums only the DU types were uglier to Palin than the Paul supporters were.

Hmmm...well I’m a bit of a Sarah supporter, at least in light of any other choice and I’m also a Ron Paul supporter. There are too many people who define ‘conservative’ as anyone in favor of non-constitutional wars, and ‘big business’ without recognizing that ‘big business’ is in bed with big gov’t.

Good job. Don’t support the true conservative in KY, but support the RINO which the establishment KY Republicans will put up to the ballot

Freepers at times amaze me with brilliance

Bingo.

Exactly how I feel.

I am not the biggest Palin supporter, but I know she is critical to our party

As is Ron Paul

Excellent post camp_steveo! The meaning of conservative has be severely co-opted by those who favor just a different version of fascistic government.

Re: “Definition per Wikipedia. Doesn’t apply to Palin.
“Country club Republican” is an expression, most often negatively intended, used to describe certain members of the United States Republican Party. Some of the characteristics attributed to country club Republicans are: Higher than average income or wealth, lack of sympathy with lower income citizens, and liberal views on abortion, gay rights, and other social issues. [1] They are also said to put less value on religion[2], and to have attended more prestigious colleges than most other Republican Party members. [3]”

***********

Wiki’s definition is exactly what I presumed it would be — monied, often well educated, tending toward pro-choice, et al. I don’t see Sarah in this definition at all. Ron Paul needs to stop the attacks and figure out what’s really bothering him.

I belive Ron Paul’s foreign policy would actually be worse tha Obama’s if that is possible.

Nope. If that would be true, Paul would have been the 2008 GOP candidate.

It was Paul who brought the traditional conservatives back into the party via new GOP registrations in the primaries. After Paul was marginalized by the media & GOP, these supporters came back into the party to vote for McCain only when Palin was on the ticket.

Palin was chosen by McCain because she was a true outsider, a fiscal conservative, and was libertarian in that she supported federalism and states' rights. McCain knew that he had to get the supporters who supported Paul back in the fold, so the choice of Palin was part of that decision.

Those Tea Parties you're witnessing now? All begun by Paul supporters. Now, I'm not going to get into a pissing match between Paul and Palin because Paul should realize that he has done his job by highlighting the issues such as the Fed and reckless gov't spending back in the GOP. He should have just had the sense not to comment on Palin because the media will just take his comments out of context and use them to split conservatives. You can loathe Paul all you want, but he has done a crucial service by steering the GOP back to its principles.
