The 'Cap And Tax' Dead End by Sarah Palin
Washington Post ^ | 7-14-09 | Sarah Palin

Posted on 07/13/2009 8:22:06 PM PDT by nomoremods

I am deeply concerned about President Obama's cap-and-trade energy plan, and I believe it is an enormous threat to our economy. It would undermine our recovery over the short term and would inflict permanent damage.

American prosperity has always been driven by the steady supply of abundant, affordable energy. Particularly in Alaska, we understand the inherent link between energy and prosperity, energy and opportunity, and energy and security. Consequently, many of us in this huge, energy-rich state recognize that the president's cap-and-trade energy tax would adversely affect every aspect of the U.S. economy.

There is no denying that as the world becomes more industrialized, we need to reform our energy policy and become less dependent on foreign energy sources. But the answer doesn't lie in making energy scarcer and more expensive! Those who understand the issue know we can meet our energy needs and environmental challenges without destroying America's economy.

Job losses are so certain under this new cap-and-tax plan that it includes a provision accommodating newly unemployed workers from the resulting dried-up energy sector, to the tune of $4.2 billion over eight years. So much for creating jobs.

In addition to immediately increasing unemployment in the energy sector, even more American jobs will be threatened by the rising cost of doing business under the cap-and-tax plan. For example, the cost of farming will certainly increase, driving down farm incomes while driving up grocery prices. The costs of manufacturing, warehousing and transportation will also increase.

The ironic beauty in this plan? Soon, even the most ardent liberal will understand supply-side economics.

The Americans hit hardest will be those already struggling to make ends meet. As the president eloquently puts it, their electricity bills will "necessarily skyrocket." So much for not raising taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year.

I went to the Post and read the whole article--very coherent and true. Dozens of the comments came directly from Daily KOS and the infants were really putting Sarah down. A few were good. I added a long one.

These vermin remind me of an ex son-in-law who truly does have mental problems and sits at his PC for hrs.zapping everybody he can with superior, mean spirited snide little comments. He draws disability and is really a genius in his own mind.

This is a good piece. Some of the comments wondered who wrote this. They evidently do not know Sarah has a journalism degree and it is hardly ever mentioned that she was the HEAD of the Alaska Energy Commission. Sort of like how "stupid" George Bush earned an MBA from Harvard and flew jets--boy, really stupid people do that every day.

Palin is definitely spot on in this Op-Ed.

...What is indeed most egregious about this Crap And Trade legislation is the injurious impact it will have on those who make the least in earnings, possibly having to be forced to make a choice between buying groceries, medicine, or simply keeping the lights on. That, ladies and gentlemen is not a pretty picture.

The biggest frustration for me is the fact we have an excessively stupid and selfish Democrat-led Congress whose members are primarily concerned with how much money they can raise for the next election cycle.

Reagan is most remembered now for his sound and robust leadership ability but the foundation of Reagan’s philosophy was constructed during his wilderness years (1974-80)that allowed Reagan to reflect and read and do research to come up with that ammunition that would allow him to reinforce his arguments and make a stronger case. This is the Reagan that Sarah is now seeking to emulate. She will now have the time to attempt to do so.

Her ability to lead will come later.

“The best thing for Palin and this country would be if Palin emerged as something of a “shadow president” over the next few years, and this sort of stuff puts her well on her way.”

Just what is a “shadow president”? What are some examples of what a “shadow president” does?.
From the steps Gov. Palin has taken so far it looks to me that she understands exactly what she wants to do.
One thing that keeps going over and over in my mind is just where are the males in the Repub. Party with the cojones to do and say what Sarah is doing?

Can America produce more of its own energy through strategic investments that protect the environment, revive our economy and secure our nation?

Yes, we can. Just not with Barack Obama's energy cap-and-tax plan.

LOL! Awesome!

Since the FR search function does not like three-letter words, I expect that this article will be posted again and again.

No harm, no foul. :o)

The trick is to also include a search term with four or more letters, like cap tax DEAD:

All I mean by a “shadow” president is someone who offers a reasoned critique of what Obama does and offers an alternative. Gov. Palin has a great opportunity to show this country, day in and day out, that she is ready to be President AND to highlight specific policy differences between the Obama administration and a future Palin administration.

I don’t doubt that Gov. Palin understands exactly what she wants to do (again, I did not intend my original post to be a criticism of Gov. Palin), I’m just offering my opinion as to what I think could be her best role over these next few year.

Newt let conservatives down. He was seduced by Bill Clinton politically; but no wonder--they were related in that neither could keep their pants zipped. Only diff. was Clinton didn't marry each one. Isn't Newt on his 3d wife?

Newt really talks a good conservative line most of the time, but I wouldn't vote for him.

As for this Daily KOS character, he posted to me something about a T-shirt and Sarah dragging her retarded kids around--really nasty stuff. I assume he meant about the Obama girl, but I never even saw that thread, much less posted to it. Mod withdrew it right away, right?

I'm having trouble reconciling this Op-Ed article with Gov Palin’s Admin Order #238 looking for opportunities to participate in carbon trading markets. Section 13. http://gov.state.ak.us./admin-orders/238.html
