Sometimes good advice comes from the most unlikely of places. In this case, it comes from a Bush. In an interview with Tucker Carlson for Esquire magazine, Gov. Jeb Bush stated the most obvious fact of American electoral politics today: if the GOP is to rise again, it has to stop hating on Hispanics or at least it has to stop appearing to be hating on Hispanics! Hes talking about you, Tom Tancredo, non-office-holding cable-news ranter.
[T]he demographics are going against us. Alex [Castellanos, Republican media consultant] told me today, for example, that there is not a district in California where Republicans are out-registering Democrats. Of the fifty-three districts I think thats right not a single one has an improving situation. Its striking. So you have a shift. Theres more minorities. The voter-registration efforts have been successful by Democrats, ACORN and the like. The swing voters are Hispanic voters in most of the swing states. And Republicans have done a poor job, sending signals that Hispanics arent wanted in our party. Which is bizarre.
The people that are on television are the loudest on the immigration issue. The emotion, the anger, is a signal. Put aside the substance, but just in terms of the language. It makes it sound like them and us. And the evidence is that after [the GOP] making major inroads, Hispanics have turned toward the Democratic party in the last two election cycles. Big time. Compare that to how my brother did and how I did and how other Republican candidates have done in the past and you can see a trend line thats quite disturbing.
Its possible [to oppose illegal immigration without coming off as anti-Hispanic] but it requires a tone thats different. If you listen to the conversation, its not just words; its how theyre spoken. It has to be dispassionate, the language. But it hasnt been.
Bush also says this smart thing on the favorite tack taken by Republican tea partyists in opposing Pres. Obama:
Socialism is pejorative in America, so people stop listening. People are tired of it. That word wont stick. Its a turnoff. It doesnt help.

Hey, how about this one?
Buchanin/Palin - '12 !!!!!
And there are those who want this fool to be president? Amazing!
Good point. Guess I’m not, but then again I’d like Pennsylvania to disappear too based on the way they vote. What are you gonna do?
It would surely rattle a lot of cages in DC, and the laughingly-misnamed watchdog press would go crazy.
it’s almost too late...
option is to get 2-3% more whites off their butts to vote R
would have to swing 5 times that percentage of Mexicans to make a difference if the white vote is static
and we can forget blacks
“
Honestly, you, your consultant, and most of the Republicans in this nation haven’t a clue when it comes to California......
This sounds for all the world like two old Politburo hacks disseminating the party line to the powerless masses, over Radio Moscow.”

They have to know, Doughty, they have to know exactly what they are doing. They’re just counting on the rest of us not knowing what they’re doing by denigrating anyone who opposes their ‘we are the world’ crappola. And unfortunately, the good gop’ers will continue singing the praises of the Bushes, McCain’s, Cheneys, who all got us in this mess.

Council on Foreign Relations backs amnesty for illegals, opposes Arpaio-style raids
Poor Jebbie the Nut can’t quite tell the difference between the beliefs of the Republican National Party’s ruling class and the beliefs of conservative Americans.
The American government was designed to be operated by citizens elected by their fellow citizens. It does not need a permanent class of office holders, nor can America long survive when such a class is in office.
Today is a good example of where a “Professional Political Class” can land America.
For lurking Libtards, that place is between a rock and a hard spot.
Wow. Check your meds.
I hope that all of those who believe that Jeb should run for higher office are listening to this.
“Wow. Check your meds.”
Wow...check your patriotism, and your history, my misguided friend.

Start by re-reading the article. Jeb never mentioned Tom Tancredo specifically. he was talking in generalities about the talking heads on TV who yell, rant and generally make jacka$$es of themselves making it appear that the Republican party is filled with racists. When you’ve got the Dem’s who are chomping at the bit to make that allegation, going off on a rant, yelling and screaming doesn’t help matters. The author of the article made a leap by specifiying Tom Tancredo specifically as the object of Jeb’s remarks. As for your response to my post, you apparently assumed that I gave a rats patooty about something specific that Tom Tancredo might have said and then began to make so many more assumptions about what I actually said and what I was responding to that it is impossible to untangle. But if you just want to yell at someone in all caps and take a stand on a soapbox then by all means, use me as your foil.
Why don’t you just get honest about your agenda? Your statement on your homepage is the biggest lie today! All you do is what the left does...marginalize and humiliate.
Jeb Bush stinks! If you like him, it just shows where you are coming from.
contemplator; “I like to give all viewpoints equal consideration and can be swayed by intelligent, rational logic. I am fascinated by human psychology. I love History and Science.”
LOL!
Let me see if I understand. So far amongst other things you’ve decided that I love Jeb Bush, I’m a Socialist, I have some sort of hidden agenda, and that I marginalize and humiliate people? All of this just because I had the nerve to suggest that Jeb might have had a point about something? Wow. Please for your own sake, seek professional help.
It's true that "mind reading" is a dangerous business, but looks like you started it by supported the MSM's (e. g. Geraldo Rivera's) mind reading:
#133: specifically. he was talking in generalities about the talking heads on TV who yell, rant and generally make jacka$$es of themselves making it appear that the Republican party is filled with racists.
For example, who? Lou Dobbs? Michelle Malkin? Who "appears" to be "racist"? Should everybody just shut up because the MSM always reads our minds and distorts what we say?
“For example, who? Lou Dobbs? Michelle Malkin? Who “appears” to be “racist”? Should everybody just shut up because the MSM always reads our minds and distorts what we say?
THAT is exactly what he’s saying.....joined at the hip with the media propaganda machine. DIVIDE and conquer is the name of their game, then marginalize and humiliate with name calling or as he suggested to me “Check your meds”. Classy, huh?

Sigh. For that reason I usually just bypass these threads. Dunno why I took the bait this time. Maybe I’m just tired of Republicans shooting themselves in the foot with this issue.
Deport 2 million illegal immigrants who committed crimes There are 2 million people who are here who have committed crimes. They have to be rounded up and deported.
McCain changed his position from his bill proposing what some called amnesty to secure the borders first for the election. He changed his position, whether you believe him or not. Still didn't help him.
He was talking out of both sides of his mouth, and neither side bought it. But apparently you did. Politicians, including Obama, who have no intention whatsoever of "securing the border" always promise to do so.
Maybe there is some part of McCain's brain that is sincere about securing the border, but his zeal for amnesty is so overpowering that everything else shrinks to insignificance. His "new" immigration plan (after he finally felt the need to try to pander to conservatives) would have sold us out in a way very similar to the old 2007 amnesty.
