Squeeze Inn Owner Says Lawsuit Could Sink Him (Access Issues Violate Civil Rights, Woman Says)
MSNBC ^ | 7/8/2009 | KCRA.com

The owner of a tiny but famous Sacramento burger joint said a lawsuit about handicapped access could shut him down.

The Squeeze Inn, known for huge mounds of melted cheese on its burgers, violates the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the lawsuit alleges.

Kimberly Block, who says she has severly limited use of her legs, argues she suffered "embarrassment and humiliation" and that her civil rights were violated because of inadequate access inside the Fruitridge Road restaurant.

I’m not home enough to train a puppy. I get tempted every time I see those adorable little faces, but I’ve seen too many untrained dogs. I had a senior collie for a few years pre-cats (only had one then, and he ignored her) and that worked out well for my lifestyle.

The disabilities act of 1990

My company was forced to install a wheelchair lift at one of the entrances to our plant front offices from the shop area at a cost of a few thousand dollars. This required lift had to its left, steps up to the doorway and on the right a slanted walkway up to the doorway which had always been there, by the way, to accomodate workers moving furniture or filing cabinets in or out of the building.........

The wheelchair lift itself was never used in the entire 16 years of its existence..........but we had to be "ADA Compliant"........

I thought you just wanted to borrow a big dog for the weekend to see how your cats acted.

Rough, definitely. I used to prefer tricolors, but I've shifted to sable. I grew up on the Terhune books, and the Fresh Air Fund actually managed to get some money out of me because I remembered that Terhune gave generously to that particular cause.

I know better than to get a border collie - an unemployed work dog is a dog that WILL get into trouble. Probably destructive trouble. Donald McCaig wrote a couple of books about his border collies up on the Blue Ridge, and at least one of the books had a warning about not getting one. I actually did already know that.

Our nearest collie rescue is about 50 miles away, so that's inconvenient, but not impossible.

My Maine Coon cat herded a bunch of escaped banty chicks back from the road once when I lived on the Eastern Shore. Didn't try to snack on even one, and he was a fierce hunter.

The plan is to check their reaction, then if it’s anything like reasonable, get a keeper. I don’t want to be in the position of adopting one then having to send it back, or have all the cats decide to move out.

Can I hijack a thread or WHAT!

Your cousin has a tragic accident, so the world should be forced at gunpoint to accommodate him?

I absolutely extend my sympathies to him for his sad event. I absolutely deny that it constitutes a moral obligation for the world to re-form itself to his needs.

I think you've hijacked the hijack of the hijack of the thread (what were we talking about originally anyhow?)

Talking about crazy dogs, I considered putting a service dog vest on my Lab so I could sneak her in places, but NOBODY would believe it . . . she's just a *little* rowdy. I refer to her as "Marley squared". Like the Border collies, she's purpose bred for a very active life, and without sufficient work she goes nuts.

I love the Terhune books too!

For some reason the Rough collie has fallen out of fashion. You don't see nearly as many of them around as you used to. Maybe nobody's reading Terhune anymore?

I love to hijack threads. I always stay on “comments” so I react to the last reply, sometimes I never read the original thread (like now). I can tell you your cats are not going to react positively to a dog, especially the older cats but what the heck, dogs are cool. Get one.

Not enough free time to brush them, perhaps. Now that I’ve removed all carpet in favor of vinyl and pergo, I DON’T CARE about shedding. I think my next couch will come with a slipcover, though.

At least some of the Terhune books were back in print last time I looked on Amazon, so if you’re missing any you might try there. I was reading about Fair Ellen, the blind one, a few months ago, and wondering if she was an early case of whatever that collie eye condition is.

I know they won’t be his/her best friend, but I want to know if they’ll be so unhappy as to leave. I’m most worried about Fred, who’s hated and feared the human race since his tiny little paws would carry him. I worked so hard to get him to halfway trust me. All the rest of that litter are perfectly normal, but he’s Just Not Right.

Shorthaired dogs shed too - just shorter hair that gets stuck in everything.

Funny thing is that my Lab with the conventional triple coat hardly sheds at all -- she blows her fluffy undercoat in April, the rest of the year she hardly drops a hair. But my Black Lab with the slick single coat (a Lean Mac trait) sheds 24/7/365 and in copious quantities. It's too short to spin, but maybe I could stuff a sofa . . . .

I got Labs instead of Goldens because of the short coat, but you still have to hit them occasionally with the Furminator and vacuum a lot.

I see no reason why a business should not be made to adhere to the American’s with Disabilities Act...

Because, in a sane country, the ADA would be considered wildly unconstitutional.

CEA has been in the bloodlines for a long time, and very prevalent. It’s present at birth, so it could be that Fair Ellen was an early case.

I’ve just gotten used to living with clouds of soft white fur everywhere, and I don’t wear black. I swiffer constantly and that new Pledge lint-roller thingy zips right over the upholstered furniture.

The Squeeze Inn was featured on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives," which airs on the Food Network.

BINGO

There is the money quote from the article. The place made it on national TV ergo is "flush with money"...
