Papal Message Seeks "Global Authority" for Economy
Reuters ^ | July 7, 2009 | Phillip Pullella

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict called on Tuesday for a "world political authority" to manage the global economy and for more government regulation of national economies to pull the world out of the current crisis and avoid a repeat.

The pope made his call for a re-think of the way the world economy is run in a new encyclical which touched on a number of social issues but whose main connecting thread was how the current crisis has affected both rich and poor nations.

Parts of the encyclical, titled "Charity in Truth," seemed bound to upset free marketeers because of its underlying rejection of unbridled capitalism and unregulated market forces, which he said had led to "thoroughly destructive" abuse of the system.

The pope said every economic decision had a moral consequence and called for "forms of redistribution" of wealth overseen by governments to help those most affected by crises.

Benedict said "there is an urgent need of a true world political authority" whose task would be "to manage the global economy; to revive economies hit by the crisis; to avoid any deterioration of the present crisis and the greater imbalances that would result."

Actually vocations are UP, not down, and fewer priests are leaving than in the decades after the 1960s. Those were ordained in the 1960s and 1970s were often poorly trained and educated. Many left. Today, things are much different. Some seminaries actually receive TOO MANY applications. “Particularly at a time when vocations to the priesthood are rare in the West, it is an extraordinary blessing to have so many vocations that we have been forced to construct two new seminary buildings.” http://www.latin-mass-society.org/fssp.htm

All those diocese which have good bishops who insist on orthodox teaching have seen their vocations to the priesthood go up in recent years. It has happened in my diocese.

It sure isn’t happening in New York State.

You really don’t know the hearts of those who left. Former Catholics who are in our church are usually older, not divorced, have had their children and were just fed up with heresy and false teachings. They were not looking for some easy way out. I can understand younger ones, perhaps, but these are older and well seasoned Christians. One family had 12 kids.

My former pastor would not marry divorced people. It caused one couple to leave. He stuck to his guns.

If elected they would be replaceable. If elected, then there would have to be checks and balances or no one will agree.

WILL Hugo Chavez be replaced? Politicians are only replaced whem ther is subjection to a constitution and laws. A "world authority" would only submit to a higher authority, constitution or law. What "authority" would THAT be? The only possible answer is that THAT "higher authority" would be the ACTUAL "World Authority."

Barry Soetero could not obtain a driver's license in Oregon. He may be a Kenyan citizen, he maybe an illegal alien, he may be committing serial felonies every time he uses "his" SS#. He may not have signed up for the draft. He may have traveled to Pakistan etc. on an Indonesian passport. Nobody knows. Any of these would be easy to disprove, but he refuses.

The point is not any of these details, it is respect for the US Constitution. He has NONE. Furthermore, Neither does most of the Legislative branch, and much of the Judicial branch. Without respect for the First Amendment -- talk radio goes away. Without respect for the Second Amendment, your firearm goes away. Re-acquiring respect for the US Constitution will be difficult, maybe impossible. Who will be able to insist that "World Authority" follow its own Constitution?

you are assuming the lack of a thing means that it should not exist.

No, I am saying that it will not be followed by a "World Authority," because there will be no higher authority able to force compliance.

You assume it won’t. You are just assuming.

I "assume" so, because I have watched, for over half century, the evil that men do. There are many who are kind an good, and others who are not. The first kind doesn't lust after "World Authority," the second kind DOES!

As a rule, it happens in the arge urbanized states last. Those were the states where liberalism came to dominate large cities, ruined seminaries and damaged parishes. Yet, even in those places there is growth in orders.

I know what they’re told me.

“Former Catholics who are in our church are usually older, not divorced, have had their children and were just fed up with heresy and false teachings.”

No. They cannot have cosidered a Catholic teaching a heresy unless they were already protestantized.

“They were not looking for some easy way out. I can understand younger ones, perhaps, but these are older and well seasoned Christians. One family had 12 kids.”

One. Great.

“My former pastor would not marry divorced people. It caused one couple to leave. He stuck to his guns.”

Former pastor? What about the current one?

Is Venezuela any less than the third world?

Who insists Obama follows it?

ALL of the world would become like Venezuela, if the UN became the “World Authority.”

Right now, no one. Maybe a someday, a man (or woman) on a white horse. Maybe it will have to be ten million deer hunters. I hope not.

Better keep an eye out for that white horse.

In true socialism you don’t have redistrbution of wealth because you don’t need it.

You need to do more homework.

And if you don’t believe in self sacrifice for the greater good then again I would encourage more Bible reading.

And squabbling about this point would prove what?

I'm not squabbling.

I'm establishing that your initial post was wrong.

So...

In which election was Hitler duly elected Chancellor?

In the mean time, God is leaving the Elim cult high and dry.

Have you suddenly become a GiRPL? This is the same kind of excrement they used to pull.

OK, OK, I confess.. I wrote a statement with which only about two thirds of historians agree. But since Hitler’s accession to the Chancellorship does not meet your personal criteria for “duly elected,” I confess that I am completely WRONG, and you are completely RIGHT. Doesn’t matter what you are RIGHT about, I am hereby DIRT. Will it help me if I also confess to the Lindberg kidnapping? What about jaywalking? I know, I know... selling atomic secrets to the Russkies?

imho . . .

feeding RELIGIOUS TROLLS ADDICTED TO IDOLIZING INSTITUTIONS, organizations, rituals, personages, doctrine . . .

vs Loving God foremost in all respects . . .

doesn’t help them learn a thing.

Again, that’s your assumption. I see no reason why nations would allow that to happen.

“Right now, no one. Maybe a someday, a man (or woman) on a white horse. Maybe it will have to be ten million deer hunters. I hope not.”

Yet no one is insisting Obama do it with any effectiveness. If you aren’t raising your hand to oppose Obama strongly why are you whining about a non-existant world government that would act like he does? Is that hypocrisy on your part?

“Better keep an eye out for that white horse.”

No, more likely I’ll be riding it than you. I’ll keep an eye out for you, however, and promise not to tramp you under foot.

(DG) ...the elections caused the appointment.

Nope, try again.

In which election was Hitler duly elected Chancellor?

Please define "elected".

When was Hitler elected Fuhrer?

When was Obama elected President?

Who elected Obama President?

I presume by "true socialism" you mean the final stage communism?

How noble of you to sacrifice the wealth and freedom others.

Cordially,

(OR) And that's why so many thousands of Priests have left the Priesthood over the last few decades.

And hundreds of thousands have not.

Rather a weak reply isn't it?

How do you explain the net loss of Priests year after year even after considering the normal attrition rate of death and retirement?

No prerequisites required, but years with of life experience attacking all things Catholic highly recommended.

Please define what is meant by "all things Catholic".

"No. It had nothing to do with wealth. It was not the wealth of a parish that was at stake, but the parish itself. In the Middle Ages, when people had little more than land and moveable property to hand done to their children, it was a terrible problem when priests tried to hand their parishes’ property onto their sons. The parish, after all, did not belong to the priests. It was donate by the faithful to the Church. It was not about wealth. It was about parish survival...."

Do you suppose this is still a major consideration?

If not, what is.

Is it possible to define without using the word "discipline"?
