Mitt Romney, you Socialist RINO quisling, I will never vote for you.

Oh, Myth Romney, how do I loathe you! Let me count the ways. (in no particular order)

10. TAXES: As the Governor of Massachusetts, you raised "fees" (taxes) by nearly $730 million. In fact, at a 2008 presidential debate, you said that it's appropriate for governments to charge fees and provide services. And, in 2007, at a campaign event in Iowa, you called flat taxes "unfair." (OnTheIssues.org/NewsMax)

9. HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA: In 1994, you favored allowing unabashed homosexuals to openly serve in the U.S. armed forces. You also favored allowing homosexuals to participate in the Boy Scouts, and you were endorsed by the Log Cabin Republicans. (OnTheIssues.org)

8. CLIMATE CHANGE: In 2008, you told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that "there’s nothing wrong with dealing with global warming." Of course, it's okay with you as long as it's done on a "global" scale. Oh, and in 2004, as Governor of Massachusetts, you introduced the Massachusetts Climate Protection Plan, a package of policies that acknowledged the existence of anthropogenic global warming. (John McCain for President via FR/OnTheIssues.org/The Boston Globe, 2004-05-07)

7. SECOND AMENDMENT: In 1994, you favored strong gun control laws. In 2009, however, somehow you managed to convince the NRA to let you address their annual conference. (OnTheIssues.org/KSWT CBS 13 Yuma, Ariz. via FR)

6. RIGHT TO LIFE: In 2002, during your campaign for Governor of Massachusetts, you pledged to “preserve and protect” a woman’s right to choose (abortion). Now, you claim to be staunchly pro-life. (Scripps via FR/OnTheIssues.org)

5. IMMIGRATION/AMNESTY: In April 2009, you said that the Republican Party needs to pass "immigration reform" (amnesty) in order to attract new voters. In a 2005 interview with The Boston Globe, you described the McCain-Kennedy "comprehensive immigration reform" bill as "reasonable." In 2007, you told The San Franciso Chronicle that illegal aliens needed to register with the government so that some could return home while others received legal status. (The Miami Herald via FR/OnTheIssues.org/The San Francisco Chronicle via FR)

4. MORE GOVERNMENT REGULATION: In April 2009, you told The Hill newspaper that: "We as Republicans misspeak when we say we don’t like regulation. We like modern, up-to-date dynamic regulation that is regularly reviewed, streamlined, modernized and effective." (The Hill via FR)

3. SOCIALIST ECONOMIC STIMULUS & FINANCIAL SERVICES BAILOUT: In January 2009, while Obama, Pelosi, and Reid were offering the now infamous Porkulus Maximus, you offered a smaller $250 million stimulus proposal. [McCain offered a slightly larger proposal of nearly $450 million.] Nonetheless, government intervention in the economy is decidedly contradictory to the conservative principles of small, limited, Constitutional government. Also, in September 2008, you told Michigan residents at an event there that the financial services bailout was absolutely necessary. (The New York Times/The Detroit Free Press)

2. OBAMACARE = ROMNEYCARE: your signature government-run health care is a dismal failure. Nonetheless, in May 2009, you cited it as one of your "best ideas," praised it in July 2009, and in May 2009 said that "the best path to healthcare reform is to let the American people make their own decisions, not have those decisions forced on them by government." [Never mind that Romney Care forced decisions on individuals residing in Massachusetts.] Oh, and your health care plan formed the basis for Obama's Socialist health care "reform." (The Daily News Record via FR/CATO/The Salt Lake Tribune via FR/The Boston Globe via FR/Fox News via FR/The Boston Globe via FR)

1. Jim Robinson refuses to support you. (FR)

In other words, Mr. Romney, you are a two-bit, flip-flopping, lying, Hispandering, Socialist-loving, globalist son of a (*$#%@. You are a RINO, a Socialist, and a traitor to these United States. Oh, and you praised Obama (CNN via FR) and attacked Palin (Politico via FR) at least once.

You suck. You shill for Obama. You're a younger, slicker, craftier, Mormon Juan McCain. You are too cuddly with the real RINO Juan McCain. Figures. RINOs of a feather flock together...in Rinonia!

In summary, I will never vote for you. EVER. I will sooner vote for a real conservatarian before I support you.

Oh, and by the way, as you go down in flames in the 2012 GOP primaries, do us all a favor and take both of the McCains, Giuliani, Huckabee, Grahamnesty, and the rest of the %$(&%@@# anti-American RINOs with you.

Good points and post - they deserve a solid reply

>Until 1978, Mormons did not allow African Americans to hold any position of authority in their church.
>>I don't see any American Catholic Bishops that are AA. I visited a lot of Baptist Churches in my time - all seemed to be lily white on the stand. Non-starter for many

>Further, on the issue of Mormon Proxy Baptism, many Christians and Jews are deeply morally and religiously offended.
>>You have me on this one. Then you are dead, you're dead - you are where you are (Or go where you go). Nothing folks do here will change that. OTOH, if you are looking to be offended, there you are.
I'll write this off as I'll just never 'get it', and it's my loss.

>Mitt Romney has been both a stake president and bishop in his church, so it's not just about where he goes to worship. He's been part of the hierarchy of his church.
>>He is involved in HIS community. From the mormons I saw while in NV, most were decent folks at that cared for the community they lived in. I guess I miss this point as well, I'd take it as a plus for most pols.

>It is entirely unreasonable to think that people (particularly African Americans and Jews, but also Christians whose faith are at odds with Mormonism) won't use that or other information to form decisions about Mitt Romney's character and worth as a candidate.
>>True enuf - to a point. I get offended, for example when I see crap like "Jews run the banks" or worse. Enjoy your opinion, don't bash another religion or cast all in the same light - that's my beef.

>I can rattle off the faiths of more than half of all US Presidents. It has always been an issue. Why should Mitt Romney get a pass?

>> Not a pass, but some respect. When JFK was running, I can remember the same kind of bashers saying crap "The Pope will use JFK to start a war" etc, etc. It was crap then, it is crap now

. >You have to wonder where that whole ‘freedom of religion’ thing disappeared to... Seriously? Come on. No one is saying that Mitt Romney can't or shouldn't be Mormon. But do you really expect any candidate anywhere to get a pass on what helps form their sense of morals and their decision making process? >>

No - what I am saying is that I respect a persons choice, that choice may not be my cup of tea (ie Holy Rollers, Snake handlers, TV Preachers, Amish, Mennonites, etc, etc) But I respect that choice and defend their freedom to that choice. That also means I observe what a person does, comment on that. Bashing Mitt as a christless mormon (and I have heard/seen worse) kinda makes that whole freedom of religion thing sound a tad thin, eh? I also have to wonder what folks outside of the US think when they see the level of religious bigotry displayed across the web.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply on this - something not often seen on FR. I hope this makes my views better understood.

Again - there is a lot to NOT like about Mitt, but bashing his church & homies just weakens other arguments folks might make on his policy, politics and choice of tie color.

Have fun, stay safe

Mitt couldn't even beat McQueeg. And yet you want him to try again??!!
I think Einstein said it best ....

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.
Sarah Palin couldn't attract more voters than Barack 0bama in the real election, and you want her to try again.
Not winning a primary is different than losing a general election (just ask Reagan.)
However, I'm not behind Romney or any candidate at this point. I will wait until at least 2011 to make that decision, and I'll probably change my wind a few times in 2012, as the field narrows. I'm not going to rule Romney out, though I think the GOP could have something better to offer next time around.

Hey, I only voted for McCain against 0bama. It's not like I was his running mate or anything...
And I supported Romney once he became the only person who could stop McCain.
Who did you support? Huckabee?

"Sarah Palin couldn't attract more voters than Barack 0bama in the real election..."

Completely lame. McQueeg's campaign could creditably be argued as one that he intentionally tried to lose. His debate performances were horrible. He never fought or once called 0bama out as the Marxist he was. He criticized anyone who used BHO's middle name [note: McQueeg, did you hear the name zer0 used at inauguration?].

Don't pin that loss on Sarah Palin; she prevented it from being the greatest landslide ever.

Almost as bad as that Katie Couric interview...
Calling the opponent names isn't going to win you votes.
People make up their minds about each candidate on both tickets independently.
If they were going to think 0bama was a Marxist, they didn't need McCain or Palin to tell them that.
But name-calling would have reflected poorly on McCain.
And everyone knew 0bama's middle name. Again, they didn't need McCain to tell them it.
It would have been just as pathetic for the candidate to do as if 0bama went around everywhere calling McCain 'Sydney', taunting him for being a wussy. This isn't the schoolyard.
That is not how you run a winning campaign. That is how you run a desperate one that is devoid of ideas or purpose.

You're a younger, slicker, craftier, Mormon Juan McCain.

Lose the reference to his religion. Otherwise, a great rant.

Gratuitously bringing up the religion can make it seem like this.

I don't see any American Catholic Bishops that are AA. I visited a lot of Baptist Churches in my time - all seemed to be lily white on the stand. Non-starter for many

There are/have been many African American Catholic Bishops (^). There are black Saints (^), black Martyrs (^) and black Cardinals (^), too. Cardinal Francis Arinze was a very close adviser to Pope John Paul II, and was considered to be on the "short list" to replace the Holy Father when he died. There have been three Popes from Africa (don't know if they were black or not, though).

There are tons of African American Baptists. If I recall correctly, Justice Clarence Thomas was Baptist before becoming Catholic, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was Baptist, too.

But that isn't the point. Nothing in Baptist Theology or Catholic Theology says that blacks are an inferior race, which is what Mormonism taught and which Mitt Romney followed until 1978. So while it may be a non-starter to you, it isn't to a lot of other people who wonder why anyone would belonged to a church which officially held that blacks are inferior.

True enuf - to a point. I get offended, for example when I see crap like "Jews run the banks" or worse. Enjoy your opinion, don't bash another religion or cast all in the same light - that's my beef.

I find that offensive as well. There is a huge difference though, between vague, untrue, and nasty insults ("Jews run the banks") and a specific, true point ("Mormons didn't allow blacks to participate fully in their church until 1978").

The difference - that one is demonstrably, historically true, is an acceptable metric for judging the thought process of someone who would be a member of that organization.

Not a pass, but some respect. When JFK was running, I can remember the same kind of bashers saying crap "The Pope will use JFK to start a war" etc, etc. It was crap then, it is crap now

What would that "respect" look like, exactly, aside from obviously refraining from nasty name calling and generalized characterizations?

Again - there is a lot to NOT like about Mitt, but bashing his church & homies just weakens other arguments folks might make on his policy, politics and choice of tie color.

Agreed.

As a Catholic, I don't agree with Mormonism, but have found most of it's followers to be sincerely nice people who honor the concepts of family, home, and who tend to live clean and modest lives.

I hope this didn't come off as bashing Mormons, because I have nothing against Mormons as a group of people, though I do disagree with their faith on many points, just as they disagree with me on many points of mine.

45% of African Americans are Baptists and Baptist is the largest protestant faith in America.

I guess I missed my point

Those that are, are (White or black)

Those that are not, are not.

Seems to be a defacto split - but not being a Baptist or even terribbly intersted, I could be wrong.

Thanks for the stats, I’ll add that to my clue bag so (hopefully, but not likely) I sound a little less stupid in the future....

I am a conservative so there is no way I would be supporting any RINOs for president.

You’ve been reading the handful of posts — out of 10s of thousands over the years — that my sick little stalker dug through and posted out of context.

One could just as easily cherry-pick a half doze comments that made me look like the biggest McCain or Romney hater around, too. I’ve had some pretty critical things to say about both, and if you cared to do your own research, you’d see that.

I am not a Mormon, and I think they’re about theologically equal to Muslims or Hindus or Scientologists or any other non-Christian religion. Still, as a nation, we have never had a religious test for public office, and I don’t think now is a good time to start. My point was, there are plenty of good reasons to oppose Romney without even looking at his religious beliefs.
