I was not responding to “being called an elitist” but that we who do not hunt or farm cannot understand conservative principles. And how do you know I don’t have people. ;)

Yum! A few of those, and I’ll fly to Alaska without a plane!

I honestly don’t see how you overcome this negative on the premier executive experience she could point to. What does she point to now? I don’t like it, but the only response is, “I served 30 months of a 48 month term as Governor of Alaska, but the Democrats attacked my family members in print and on television, and they filed frivolous law suits against me.”

She can begin with saying she was elected to the Wasilla city council for 3 years, then elected mayor of Wasilla for six years, chaired for a year at the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and finally three years as governor of Alaska.

She needs to define herself, especially on the issues. She can only do that by traveling the country and building a solid grassroots base, campaigning for Republican candidates for 2010, attending fundraisers, building IOUs, and so on. Cannot do that in Alaska where no one know what is going on up there. She could be the greatest governor ever and no one would know. I do not see that she had any other choice if she wanted to seriously run for President in 2012. The time to start building her campaign is now.

As for what she could say about Obama, he was a community organizer, then Senator with a record of 148 days (or some very low number) of official service, and very little passed legislation to his name. His first 100 as president days have been a total failure. And you also have lot of examples of lawlessness on his part. His statements are radical statist philosophy.

A real conservative, especially someone like Sarah Palin, could take him down. I think in 1980, polls had Carter defeating Reagan by a lot. No one thought he would win. Then Reagan won in a landslide. Conservatism wasn't on the 2008 ballot. Obama won as a result. 2010 & 2012 I see a conservative resurgence. I think Sarah Palin wants to lead it.

Here is part of what Sarah Palin said on her Facebook page yesterday: "I shared with you yesterday my heartfelt and candid reasons for this change; I’ve never thought I needed a title before one’s name to forge progress in America. I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint. I hope you will join me. Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness!"

That sounds like she wanting to fight.

Need Stats for a Masters ...

Romney was not a very effective governor in MA. Not entirely his fault because of the state congress, but he gave in way too much. For those Romobots out there thinking he’s going to be great for 2012 ... honor is important. Sarah Palin has shown more character than any of the Republican candidates in many years. Probably since Reagan.

Kristol: A Contrarian Take (Palin 2012)
Saturday, July 04, 2009 12:26:07 AM ·
The Weekly Standard ^ | July 3, 2009 | William Kristol
If Palin wants to run in 2012, why not do exactly what she announced today? It’s an enormous gamble - but it could be a shrewd one. After all, she’s freeing herself from the duties of the governorship. Now she can do her book, give speeches, travel the country and the world, campaign for others, meet people, get more educated on the issues - and without being criticized for neglecting her duties in Alaska. I suppose she’ll take a hit for leaving the governorship early - but how much of one? She’s probably accomplished most of what she was going...
Who thinks Kristol told her to do this?

Now only if Mitt will give some speech telling us how good Romneycare is again...

Hey, has Mitt come out and made a mealy-mouthed speech about Palin's resignation and patted her on the head with one hand and stabbed her in the back with the other hand yet?

I was wondering if Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin advised her to do this.

Do you think Bill Clinton was effective for his cause as President?

How many ethics complaints were filed (and unlike Sarah, deservedly so) against him?

At one point the Special Prosecutor was handling around five complaints at one time.

He was both defended and trashed in the media. He mounted a defense in the media and stuck it out.

He was impeached for God sake. He stuck it out. His wife was eviscerated, he was lampooned continuously. He stuck it out.

He was a real prick, but to this day he can play all of it off like it was one big witch hunt, and he outfoxed them all. He got his license to practice law suspended for a few years. I doubt many people even know it.

You can tell me what you like. I’m thinking that if he had resigned most folks would have respected him a lot less, and his legacy would have been almost totally destroyed.

For you and me it actually has been. For a lot of Democrats and Independents, it’s my fear Sarah’s will have too.

We shall see.

I believe I was faithful on the out of the box comment, but if I paraphrased it, I’m sorry.

Stepping down from public office with a plan to go your own route, is outside the box, even if you think it’s just the right thing to do. It is unconventional.

Note:

My comparison above was to highlight someone else who had many charges brought against him while he held office. It was not to say Sarah and Bill had comparable exposures based on the validity of charges brought against them.

"Sarah Palin has shown more character than any of the Republican candidates in many years."

Agree 100%! While most would ride out the remainder of their term as a lame-duck, she's defied "conventional wisdom" time and time again by refusing to sit on the sidelines or play by their rules.
