With the stunning news of Alaska Governor Sarah Palins sudden resignation, it is easy to jump to the conclusion that there is "something else out there" that has forced her to make this decision. There might well be, but ever since her return to Alaska after her electoral defeat in November, it has been very clear that she has loathed the new dynamic that has greeted her there.
The recent Mark Sanford saga and other political scandals have trained us to assume the worst, but as a former campaign aide who remains close to Palin cautions, "Its a sad commentary when people jump to negative conclusions."
During her first year-and-a-half as governor, Palin seemingly could do no wrong as she frequently reached across the aisle to Democrats, racked up a string of high-profile legislative successes, and caught the eye of John McCain when she challenged the Republican presidential nominees views on drilling in ANWR during their first face to face meeting in February of 2008.
But her beloved Alaska has been anything but accommodating since the McCain/Palin campaigns electoral defeat in November. She has been under a constant barrage of attacks there from critics, who have been joined by many of the same people who had once been her political allies.

Heres the perfect example of what shes been up against.
CBS just did their spew on her resignation, describing it as rambling and confused. They said she had gotten Alaska in debt defending ethics charges, but didnt even mention she had been cleared of all of them.
These snakes are beyond deplorable. I hope Sarah is leaving because she has an idea how to take out this so called ‘media’.
Sarah will weather and rise above all of this trash... and she will win.
Don’t cross the girl, never take her for granted.
As a private citizen, wouldn't she be able to then file lawsuits if they do keep trashing her?
I believe you are right on Jeff. You betcha! I’m looking forward to this. Sarah does not do things without careful planning and forethought.
Here’s the way I see it...
Sarah is ambitious and she is smart.
She got a taste for higher politics and she is hooked.
Alaska is part of the U.S. but, it is still a place too far to be in the everyday political spotlight needed to be recognized as a big threat to take the lead in high republican politics.
She saw other people with the same ambitions as she has getting the spotlight shone on them. Gingrich, Romney and Huckabee are in the spotlight and, although it is still 3 years away, they are in campaign mode already for the 2012 election. Sarah realized that she needed to be in that group if she wanted to be competitive. She doesn’t want those others to build up a big lead in popularity and credibility to the point where, if she decided to run later, it might turn out to be too little too late. Therefore, she had no choice but to start making her moves now.
The first step in that direction was to quit the Alaska governorship and start concentrating on what it’s going to take to make her candidacy more credible. She also needed to start setting up the needed financing groups in order to be viable. As an example, Obama started running for president after just one year as a U.S. senator. Sarah sees the same opportunity and she is getting ready.
I like the idea of the poster but they should have gotten a younger bear. That one is old and toothless. About all he has left is worn down canines.
Excellent post! And dead on accurate IMO.
It’s actually three seperate pics...find me a better one of a Kodiak turning and I will use it. Will also look for one myself.
I am not a great fan of Sarah Palin, although I admire her spunk and support her message. She is a work in progress as far as Commander-in-Chief is concerned.
But her detractors, the MSM, are the scum of the Earth. They have proven themselves to be disgusting little misfits worthy only of our disgust and derision. A pox on them all and I wish them nothing but ill. Sarah would be wise to lend her talents to fund raising for conservative candidates and building a support base for a future attack against these vermin. She will do well.
OK, we can thank Dave Letterman in part for this incredible turn of events. I believe Sarah has finally had enough from the bitter humorless vicious libtards and Dave was the last straw. Ya go after the Mama Bear’s cubs and she’s gonna fight back. She will soon be free of the yoke of the governorship and be unleashed! Free to speak her mind more openly than ever. And I will relish every second of her rise to the Presidency, something I have hoped for and even prayed for since last fall. Worldly action will be required by those of us who support her, money, lots of money to get her out of debt from the frivolous and false charges she has had to defend, and then campaign donations directly to her, not to the RNC ever ever again. She will win, she is on a mission from GOD. She ain’t Jake and Elwood Blues in a movie, she’s the real deal and she is on a real mission from God. She will win. The libtard’s heads will then explode! Sarah will surely have a very special Independence Day. She has declared her independence to say and do as she wants, without the bonds of the governorship holding her back. Go Sarah Go!!! Happy Independence Day America, Help is on the way!
‘....she will be free to say and do as she pleases now; and that’s to hit as hard as she wants against the idiot elites of the left. ....’
Fox just played Sarah’s entire speech and after listening to her, I, too, think she is now free to do and say what she pleases. I also believe she will speak out against the ‘left’....AS WELL AS any RINO’s. I believe Sarah will now speak out and STAND UP FOR WHAT’S BEST FOR AMERICA AND FOR OUR FREEDOMS. God bless her. She’s terrific. Go Sarah!
At this point her reasons for resigning are pretty much speculation and “her political career is over” wishful thinking on the part of the usual suspects.
I’ve stated before on this and other forums that after the drubbing she took once McCain announced her as his running mate, I half expected her to walk up to that podium during the RNC and tell us all she didn’t need this (insert preferred swear word here)! She didn’t, and gave what I considered one of the best political speeches I’d ever heard.
She is one tough woman. Guess we’ll know soon enough what the real deal is, but I sure don’t see her as someone who is a quitter.
Sarah said it herself in her statement, quoting something she saw in her parents' kitchen, "Don't explain, your friends don't expect it, and your enemies won't believe it anyway."
