Lt. Gov. Response to Palin’s Announcement

(July 3, 2009, Wasilla, Alaska) Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell has released his prepared remarks in response to Governor Palin's announcement.

Thank you, Governor. It is with a heavy heart that I hear these words. I so appreciate what you have done for our state and your sacrificial service. You have been a strong leader for our state, you've inspired a nation, and you've ignited the fire of real hope around the world.

I profoundly respect your decision for I know the depth of character and integrity from which it springs. Rare, indeed, are such selfless acts seen in the public arena.

Governor Palin has recounted well the achievements of the last two and a half years and I want to take a moment to assure Alaskans of the good team in place to move Alaska forward and to speak briefly about what Alaskans can expect.

We've got an extremely talented team of commissioners, and I intend to keep them working hard for our state. I will work with the governor to coordinate with the cabinet and staff on a seamless, stable transition. And, I will work closely with legislators, community leaders, and individual Alaskans to accomplish these ends.

I came into office believing and still strongly believe that the power, rights, and responsibilities of our government belong to the people. Alaskans can expect me to focus on positioning Alaska for economic growth by creating legacy opportunities for our people and future generations.

My top priority is to get a gasline. I will continue the course set by the governor that has produced such forward progress these past two years. I will continue to support and promote responsible resource development and energy development of all kinds for Alaskans.

State government will live within its means and we will provide a stable investment climate for job creation. We remain committed to education, safe homes, and transportation. We proudly and resolutely support our military, veterans, and their families, and we will protect second amendment rights. Perhaps most importantly, we cherish life and liberty.

I thank Governor Palin for holding fast to these principles during her service. Personally, I thank her for the confidence she's placed in me, for her trust, and for her friendship. As Alaska celebrates her 50th year of statehood, I believe history will look back on Sarah Palin as one of Alaska's great gifts to all peoples. You have served honorably, Governor. God bless you.

A very astute analysis.

What it amounts to is that Gov. Palin has escaped the media proctoscope...and can prepare her next move outside the bubble.

Maybe she'll run in '12, maybe she won't. But, in either event, this was a good move for Alaska. And for her and her family.

I remember Lt. Gov Parnell from an interview on some TV station during the campaign. We were very impressed with him and hoped he would follow Gov Palin. Didn't expect it to happen this soon but glad he is there to take over. As for Sarah resigning, the reasons will be known soon enough. I wish her well.

"...that it is best for Alaska if she steps down and lets her very competent Lt. Gov take over the remainder of her term as Gov."

Giving him more legs to 'prove' himself for a run when her term expired. It would not have served the people of Alaska for her to remain in the office (even if for only the remainder of one term) and eventually step down later for a 2012 run. If she'd been elected for a second term as Governor, the LIEberal media would still be using their poor attempt to discredit her by "abandoning her office".

Of course they will use the 'experience' angle once again since it only matters if a Republican is running. Experience certainly wasn't a factor with sHillary or DUh-bama.

“oh no, Alaska is a TERRIBLE place to live. Cold, dark and bleak WInters. Very, very high cost of living. No Bon Marche stores - it’s just....uncivilized.
No, stay home, tell all of your friends how bad Alaska is to live -tell all of them to stay home.”

I’ll second that!

Caribou....Alaska

No leaks from their speech writers, either.

I didn't see a speech. I saw a woman speaking from her heart, with a total command of the moment! Sarah Palin deserves our prayers, and my dollars are already helping to further OUR FUTURE, by helping retire her legal debts and contributing to SarahPac.

I hope we can help her become our nation's REAL hope and change!

DOn’t forget the cold and dark freezing night that last all day.

And it is cold - fatal cold at -40 or more.

DAy after day - biting, unremiting cold seeping into your bones....

And dark, I mean really dark - no streetlights dark.

All day long.

Bears hiding the parks - waiting to eat you or your children, even in the biggest cities....

Terrible place to live, Alaska.

Pass it along.

OMG! You are right, I forgot to warn everyone about the bugs!

Mosquitoes the size of helicopters, gnats thick enuf to suffocate you.

Moose fly that will take a chuck out of your hide and fly up in a tree and laugh at you while they finish lunch.....

The only thing that will save you is the dark and cold nights. Lethally cold, and dark all day.

So, so cold that it will freeze car components so that they shatter when you shut your door.

Thanks for the help in describing how horrible a place Alaska is for folks to live.

Yah, did you remember the snow up to the eaves, so we have to tunnel out?

kinda reminds me of the conversation I overheard one night when I was camping out with some friends. I heard a couple of little voices. The first one said, "Oh, boy! Tourist on the menu! Shall we eat him here, or should we take him with us and eat him at home?" The second little voice said, "No, we'd better eat him here. If we take him home with us, the big guys will just take him away from us!"

LOL

Hard to convince folks the stories about Valdez are true. I worked for a big telcom outfit and we paid a fellow to big out the 9 meter dish after every snowstorm.

I wish I had been able to keep a photo showing another dish on coastal Alaska buried all the up to the top - a 25 ft drift.

Skeeters are deadly, no doubt.

Start your own cottage industry....provide the sewing machines, materials, and use the internet to distribute.

Carl FOX pointed out (after he got organized). That’ She'll have time to finish the book (seven figure advance) get it to the presses sooner.
DO the book tours
Appear with talking heads

Had been offered hundreds of paying talking engagements that will pay more than the 100,000 she is receiving as gov.

Will be free to speak for other candidates (Collect political capitol)

Time more flexible to spend with family.

My son spent two summers on Kodiac working on a boat. Can’t wait to show him your posts.....Funny thing, he says the same thing to folks who talk about moving there....He’s very protective of Alaska. Wants it to be unspoiled when he goes back...He loves Alaska.

OTOH, We now have a nest of his beloved eagles nesting near our home....And it’s warm in the winter here in our state forest.

"Hard to convince folks the stories about Valdez are true."

Yah, my late hubby plowed snow in the winter and dirt in the summer. Any storm that didn't leave two or three feet was called a "flurry." Shoveling off the room of the trailer was THE un-fun job, because about halfway through, it never failed to rain. But it can snow hard enough there to completely smother a furnace stack between cycles. But, like we used to say, "If you like snow, you'll LOVE Valdez!"

No real clues. But if I don’t miss my guess, she was reassured by their support and patriotism. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was told that they had sworn to uphold and protect the CONSTITUTION, not an individual. That would be my guess. I would love to be proved right on this...
