Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is expected to announce Friday that she will not seek a second term, a Republican source close to Palin tells CNN.
Palin has scheduled a 3 p.m. ET news conference at her home in Wasilla. The governors office offered no further details about the subject of the news conference, but the sources tells CNN that Palin will announce her decision to forgo another run.

The elites on FOX News are ripping her (Lowry, Amanda Carpenter, Goldberg, Kristol, etc).
Scum all of them.
Correct: I mean go Sarah. Yeah.
Meg Stapleton was on Fox News implying that Sarah will run for POTUS in 2012.
What promising candidates? Newt? With his baggage?
Romney? Egad we are indeed finished.
Absolutely! Sarah has just proclaimed her independence! She can kick some butt now!
Not being governor won’t damage her any more than it damaged Reagan...as long as she does the right things with the next two and a half years.
Her Tweet says this is in Alaska’s best interest, my family is happy, it is good.
I’m betting she is done like she said... maybe the lecture circuit but that will probably be about it.
THAT’S IT!!!
You hit on the answer.
At least as I see it and I’m right about as often as Dick Morris.
SHE’S MOVING TO DC!!!
Well maybe not DC proper, that might be too obvious. But I’m betting that she’s moving to the lower 48 somewhere, maybe Illinois where she’s from I’m thinking.
Because travel to and from Alaska is tough in the best of weather. In the winter time it’s hard as hell to get around Alaska.
There’s a gazillion things she should attend if she’s to step up as a player in the Republican party. What was that Republican thing she was on again and off again about? I know Newt and the others didn’t want her stealing the thunder but I’m betting travel to these sorts of things are a real issue.
And if she moves down to the lower 48 somewhere, well it would be damn hard to remain Governor of Alaska, you think? They beat her up over everything.
I’m laying odds, for now, of maybe 10 to 1 that this is the reason.
The things of God is foolishness to men. This is definately unconventional. Amazing that she chose the 4th of July holiday to make her announcement.
The worse things the dems could have done was to keep picking at her. She doesn’t seem as one to run from a fight. I hope She’ll retreat with family and be back stronger in 2012.
I like this quote from President Thomas Whitmore:
“...And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. “Mankind.” That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it’s fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: “We will not go quietly into the night!” We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!”
America is once again fighting for her way of life to continue. Palin has chosen to be in position to rise above it all and take time to think her future out. I hope she doesn’t quit for good.
If that’s true, maybe the next President can get her to be Energy Secretary. I’d rather have her be the 45th POTUS, but she would be the most well-qualified SecEnergy ever, IMHO.
Those populist words were John McCain/Steve Schmidt nonsense.
I could sense she was uncomfortable delivering that crap.
Of course, Larry Sabato had to wax negative eloquence. The corridor pundits just cannot understand honorable, forthright honesty, They suspect something devious. Sabastard as much as hinted some soon-to-be-charged crime or something as bad in her future. Gads he makes my skin crawl.
She should not have resigned. Now, she’s demonstrated that she can’t, in fact, take the heat. Too bad, I was really looking forward to 2012, now I’m not.
Sarah blew it.
Maybe it's more a matter of "out of the frying pan and into the fire." This seems more likely since she already said she will be active campaigning for other Republicans.
Sarah is not leaving the arena.
It takes three and a half hours to fly from Seattle to Anchorage. It take about four hours to fly from Seattle to New York. Alaska is a long way from everything.
If she were a US Senator, then she would have easy access to the political arena, proving that she can debate with the heavy weights (in more ways than one) and build her resume.
State run media questioning her knowledge / experience / etc ? ..... it's just a tantrum. Everybody will KNOW by the election that the media backed an empty suit know nothing marxist and can't be trustaed at all.
Nam Vet
She can’t win dog catcher, now, so I fail to see how she can help others.
Yes, independent is right. I’m amazed at the way the lady speaks. You just don’t hear politicians who speak so honestly and with such passion. Not even a whisper of pretense from Sarah Palin.
This is who we need to lead our country.
