Krauthammer: Palin isn’t a serious candidate for president
Hot Air ^ | July 01, 2009 | ALLAHPUNDIT

Oh yes, he went there. We’ve been having a running debate on Twitter this afternoon about Sarahcuda and my contention that criticism of her is verboten among righty blog readers, HA’s included. This thread will be an interesting test case. Most of the heat Kraut takes will be for his contention that “You cannot sustain a campaign of platitudes and clichés over a year and a half if you’re running for the presidency.” Didn’t Captain Hopenchange do exactly that? Well, yes and no. Granted, the most memorable line he uttered in 18 months on the trail was “Yes we can,” but he’s done countless policy interviews, debated Hillary 20 times and McCain three, and held numerous press conferences. The TOTUS jokes are fun but The One’s perfectly capable of straying off script when need be. Is Palin? She seems at ease when discussing energy or life issues but the jury’s still out on most everything else, which is why Kraut feels comfortable asserting that she hasn’t (yet) brushed up on national policy the way we all thought she would.

The problems for Sarah:

1) Obama was and is a con man. Sarah is not. Politics is a dirty, dirty business and without playing dirty it’s hard to win a big election.

2) The media has had an enormous influence on everyday people regarding Palin. A lot of people have been mislead into thinking she’s this uneducated, backwoods hick, no-experience governor, because that’s what the media has told them. It’s sickening and it’s unfair, but perception counts for a lot.

My dad is a life-long conservative and says he doesn’t want her to be the nominee in 2012 because she “sounds dumb” when she talks. He wants Romney or Huckabee instead.

Who cares what she sounds like when she talks, it’s her policies that matter. And her policies are far more sound and conservative than Romney, Huckabee, Giuliani, etc.

Being underestimated right now has big advantages. Let them all think she’s a joke. Wait until those rallies hit (if she runs) and she proves she DID do her homework.

"Of course. But if she wins the nomination, she wins the Presidency. If she loses the nomination and we’re stuck with yet another RINO in the general, then say hello to Obama’s second term."

I actually think that Obama's future (like all incumbents) has almost nothing to do with whom is opponent may or may not be, and everything to do with how the country is doing, and specifically the economy.

If unemployment is above 7% or so, Obama is toast regardless of who the GOP nominee is. The Republicans could put Daffy Duck on the ticket, and still win in a landslide.

If, unemployment is less than 5%, and we don't get hit again (by Al Quaeda, NK or Iran), then Obama will stroll comfortably to reelection, probably by a margin victory as great or greater than his first.

Krauthammer was giddy for Obama after the latter’s inauguration.

That is why I don't trust his judgement at all. How could he be giddy for an America hating communist? It wasn't like that was hidden at all, it was there for all to see during the election. Kraut and so many other just lost it last election, and there was absolutely NO excuse for it.

I loved her before Dr. Sowell did. So, that basically seals the deal. :)

Palin has more common sense by herself than all of the other potential candidates combined.

Bill Clinton was the only Democrat who thought he could beat George Bush in ‘92. I said to myself, “This guy’s crazy, Bush has approval ratings through the roof, nobody can possibly beat him.” Yeah, right. Sure, I know—he couldn’t have done it without Ross Perot. True enough. But he believed in himself and in the possibility of intervening circumstances, as in, “anything can happen.”
Well, to all the doubters in the possibility of a Palin Presidency, I say, “Anything can happen.”

anyone remember palin’s first speech? Gawd, the media were flabbergasted. It surprised them immensely and they started to fear her

I’ve sent more money to Sarah Palin than any other politician. I think she sounds intelligent however I did not watch her network interviews.

She’s a hot button. When there is any attempt to bolster her validity, the media and the Left take her down. It’s just not going to work.

She is never going to be a presidential nominee. And I suspect the GOP would block her if she got close for the same reasons I’ve enumerated.

Krauthammer can’t walk and is lucky to have any work at all. His opinion is bogus.

That is a stupid comment. He can't walk because of a diving accident. He has a job, because he is well informed and has an insightful mind.
The first time around, Sarah could say she had more experience than Obama. Next time, if she decides to run, she will not be able to say that, and she will be relatively uninformed on the issues compared to Obama. She should take Krauthammer’s advice, whether or not she wants to be public about it. Obama will be running with the disadvantage of having made a mess of things, but Sarah will still have to be able to convince people she could do better. PREPARE. Don't blindly talk yourself into complacency.

Looks like Sarah is being “misunderestimated”. That should serve her well.

Barnes and Krauthammer block and tackle for RNC RINOs.

They are NeoCons. They supported John McCain and loathed Fred Thompson BECAUSE of his conservative credentials.

If Fred or Chuck are for ‘em, I’m against ‘em.

They have an agenda and it isn’t promotion of conservatives.

I am a HUGH Palin fan, but she does need to shore up her weak spots.

Weak spots?

Barack Obama had never run a hot dog stand. He was, and still is, full of shit and completely on the wrong side of history, defense and economics in every one of his policy positions.

Obama is an empty suit who simply loves to hear himself talk AND YOU CALL PALIN WEAK?

When she ran, she ran for VP not President. She had McCain in her way and saved his lame ass from a worse upset than he deserved. It’s funny how all these pundits think it takes brains to be a politician. I think it take brains not to behave like one. As for Sarah – I like her. I know lots of people that like her. That’s a start. I’d vote for her again with out question. As for the others, time will tell.
