California Digging (Its Own Financial Grave)

Regulation: Ignoring the first rule of holes, a bankrupt state passing out IOUs welcomes an EPA waiver allowing it to further kill its economy. Too bad the state can't stop the air pollution imported from a growing China. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday granted California its long-standing request — denied by the Bush administration — for a waiver to allow it to impose even more stringent air pollution rules than currently required by the federal government. The way is now clear for implementation of a 2002 state law requiring new cars to increase their fuel economy 40% by 2016. At least a dozen other states are champing at the bit to follow California's lead.

The CA situation reminds me of watching a slow-motion film of an automotive crash test. Very slowly, the distance between the front bumper and the wall decreases and decreases. Then there is that moment of impact, and you see the bumper crumple, the shock waves ripple across the hood until the windshield shatters, the body rises, then falls back on the suspension, the air bag blows, maybe the side window shatters, and in the end you have something that’s fit to be hauled off to a scrap yard.

I say bring it on. I could care less what happens. And I live here.

When is the governator going to suggest that legislature consider a pay cut for itself while it’s passing out all these IOUs?

I’ve got news for the authors of this article.

The whole damned country is digging it’s own grave.

Obama is the funeral director and the Democrats are preparing the body in the back out of view of the mourners.

“At least a dozen other states are champing at the bit to follow California’s lead.”
++++++++++

Wow, really? This is the classic case of the blind leading the blind...and this time it’s right off the cliff...

The liberals are insane - it really is a mental disorder and they really do think they can keep going down this road heading for that massive cliff - and somehow survive...

The rest of us are screaming our blasted heads off and we’re supposed to be ‘extreme...’

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, captain of a ship seriously listing to port, hailed the decision as a "huge step for our emerging green economy that will create thousands of new jobs and bring Californians the cars they want while reducing greenhouse gas emissions." So far the green economy is withering on the vine.

Europe signed onto Kyoto nearly ten years ago. If a "green economy" worked, they wouldn't have endemically high unemployment.

I just hope all the rest of us learn a really abiding lesson from all this. If we stay uninvolved, it really can get *this* bad.

I was just going with the natural metering of the title words.

There seems to be a general assumption in the average American that people like Bernie Madoff only exist in the private sector. The government is full of this same type, except they also get to write the rules.

(from the article)

Estimates are that a third of California's air pollution and a fifth of Oregon's comes from China. Sensors in the Sierra Nevada Mountains have identified huge Chinese pollution clouds that traverse the Pacific...

...As a "developing" nation, China is exempt from the Kyoto agreement...

...For every "cleaner" car put on California highways, many more regular cars will be added to Chinese roads with their drivers going to businesses that are opening, not closing or moving elsewhere.

Good luck, Kalifornia!

Good luck, Amerika!

They need to dig faster. Actually the population needs to get fed up with the government. Here's a taste of the thievery going on for far to long.

From a Misterwriter blog

"Yesterday I reported that the out of touch with reality Speaker of the California Assembly, Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) and minority leader Michael Villines (R-Clovis), had awarded $551,000 worth of pay raises to 136 employees, despite the state being so far in the black hole of budget balancing. Well today, head twit Karen Bass announced that she had recalled the raises because they turned out to be "a distraction" from the work they are doing there in the Assembly. No Karen Bass, it was not a distraction. Your ass got busted for being greedy in the face of your constituents collective misery. Get a clue"

This is what happens when the government becomes a class unto itself. It will award itself lavish benefits until someone steps up and says STOP or else. And this is the same highly intelligent public servant who said conservative radio was terrorism. She's the Speaker of the California Assembly whatever that is. I wouldn't have her pick up dog crap in my backyard but that's not stopping this dumbass from pulling down mad jack at taxpayer expense. Adios California. You won't be missed.
